School News
Sparrow Family – Camera Bird Box
There are at least three sparrow chicks in our camera bird box. They have just hatched and we are able to see on the screen that both parents are busy feeding their very hungry chicks. It’s going to be exciting watching the young chicks change and grow over the next few weeks.
Royal Wedding Celebration
Pupils and staff are very welcome to come dressed in party clothes next Friday as we celebrate Prince Harry and Megan Markle’s Royal Wedding.
Class News
Primary 1
Primary 1 are enjoying the French Café in our classroom and we are practising ordering our food in French.
We have been busy making French and Polish flags.
We have all designed posters to encourage people to put their litter in the bin and ‘reduce, reuse, recycle.
Primary 1/2
Our favourite activity in our Safari week has been the Animal Bridge Challenge. Groups had to make bridges out of only 4 materials . The bridge had to be able to hold 12 small animal toys. P ½ worked so well together.
Aiden: I think we need to change ours because it isn’t strong enough.
Alba: We need another clip on that side so things don’t slip off.
Eamon: They could flip the cups around the other way so the bridge stands stronger.
A big thanks to everyone who came to see our assembly today too!
Primary 2
We have been learning about water safety.
“Don’t go too far out because you don’t know how deep the water at the beach is” – Kahlen.
Connor – “obey the diving signs at all times”.
“Never go near water without an adult” – George.
“Never run at the side of a swimming pool. It could be slippy and you could fall and bump your head” said Noah.
We are learning to tell the time o’clock and half past.
Coby and Connor played football for Threave Rovers and they won a trophy. Milly has moved into the gold group for swimming. Struan has moved up to third level in the swimming club.
Thank you to everyone for bringing in Italian food for the PTA Hampers.
Primary2/3
In Maths we have been collecting information and making graphs. We made up a set of rules for our Circus groups. We practised our trapeze song with Mrs. Teale. We have been reading lots of books and wrote our own story to go with pictures from one of the books.

Primary 3
This week P3 have been learning about data handling in maths. We have been gathering our own data and displaying it in pictograms and bar graphs
In topic, we have been learning about the uniform a Roman Soldier would have to wear.
We also wrote a letter to Robert and Sally from Littleton farm to thank them for the fantastic trip
Primary3/4
This week we have been learning about our second wonder of the world – The Grand Canyon. Coll learned it was made by erosion. We were demonstrating erosion by using soil to create our own landscape and the adding water to see how it changes with water erosion.
This week we have been working with money and finding different ways to make amounts.
We had a visitor to tell us all about our eggs in the incubator.
“We were able to see air sacks using a torch”, said Shea. We will hopefully have some chicks born next week.
On Tuesday Lily sat her ballet exam in Ayr. Shea learned a wolf jump at gymnastics. Katie received a certificate for being able to jump bar to bar in gymnastics. Alannah has started growing vegetables at Brownies.
Primary 4
P4 have been working on a range of activities linked to the Royal Wedding. We created a royal family tree and have been thinking about the importance that the family hold in British culture. We are learning to explain the purpose of a wedding invitation and can say why a wedding invitation is used. We learned how to produce an effective wedding invitation that contains the required information. We selected and sorted they key information so that we could invite ourselves to the big day!

In maths, P4 have been using pictograms and bar graphs. They have also been converting time with Mrs De Silva.
“I felt challenged when working on time this week but I also felt good because I answered all my questions correctly” Erin.
This week in topic we have been exploring the brains role in receiving information from the senses, processing that information and controlling the muscles to allow us to move. We carried out three experiments called hole in your hand, colour words and think fast! Everyone enjoyed trying to speed up their reaction time.
“I could see the hole in my hand. I think optical illusions are really cool” Freya.
Skye, Ruby, Anna and Georgia took their grade 1 ballet exam this week and are eagerly awaiting their result.
Primary 4/5
This week we have been enjoying Gangster Granny. We have listened to the audio version and have been learning to take notes. Everyone is doing well in their x tables challenges. Our champions this week are Oscar, Jessica, Amy, Chloe, Lexie and Sam. Well done!
Primary 5
This week in math we have been doing analogue and digital time in class. We also have been doing a work book with bus timetables and questions that we had to answer. It was a bit tricky but it was fun work to do. We also had to pick a topic for our class talk.
Lois did a Jazz Competition in Perth and came 8th out of 9. Ellie learned to swim under water. Molly got reserve Champion with her pony Fizz at a competition at the weekend.
Primary 5/6
This week in P5/6 we have started our new topic learning about Dumfries and Galloway. We have chosen to focus on food and drink, nature, history, jobs and recreational activities. We have lots of visitors that have agreed to come and talk to us in class. If there is anyone else who would like to help us out with our topic then please get in touch!
In maths, we have been learning about complementary and supplementary angles.
We have been using a range of sketching pencils to sketch Belted Galloways!
Primary 6
“We were talking about the history of Bulgaria and we were learning basic Bulgarian greetings with Neve’s Mum.” (Morven)
“We were learning a Spanish song and we learned how to say our age and how to ask questions in Spanish.” (Charley)
“In PE, we continued with Super Scot and we were measuring how far we could kick a ball.” (Sam)
“In ICT, we have been making a PowerPoint about our European country.” (Rory L)
“With Mrs Teale, we were practising our French song.” (Sophie)
Mia, Charley, Tiana and Hannah performed at a jazz dancing competition on Sunday and they came 8th place- well done! They also had a ballet exam on Tuesday!
Threave Rovers took part in a festival at the weekend in Newton Stewart. They won 3 out of 5 of the matches- well done to Rory L, Sami, Rory T, Sam, Jayden and Ollie! They also did a sponsored walk on Sunday to raise funds for a new kit.
Isla L was awarded a certificate at gymnastics on Friday night!
Primary 6/7
On Thursday all our P7’s visited CDHS for our first transition day. We took part in Music, Rugby, Table Tennis, smoothie making and sensory listening. We can’t wait for our next move up days in June!
Primary 7
This week we went to the High School for a transition. Dean’s favourite part of the day was the rugby. George enjoyed walking round the school – he got lots of exercise. Carla thought the smoothie making was fun. Alastair liked the food tasting activity. They all enjoyed meeting new people.

Primary 1 – Thursday 17th May – Outdoor Classroom Day – please send your child in old clothes. We may get dirty!
