School News

We were excited to welcome ex-pupil, David Mcmath, to our Achievement Assembly on Monday. David was representing Scotland at the Commonwealth games in the Double Trap shooting event and won the Gold Medal!

David kindly came along to show us his gold medal and answer lots of questions about his sport and what it was like to win Gold for Scotland.

A reminder that Monday is the May Day Holiday and the school will be closed.

A reminder that the deadline for ordering school uniform is Wednesday 9th May.  Due to lack of space to store uniforms please make sure you order what you need for the school year ahead, as we are unable to guarantee that any orders placed after the deadline will be met.  A sample of the school clothing is available for you to view in the entrance hall at the main door at the school. Please come in to check the sizes you require, as we cannot guarantee that exchanges will be made when your order arrives.

We also went into the Nature Garden for a little while to see what it would feel like in the rainforest – and it was raining too!

We have been learning about the half past time and we can match digital and analogue times.

We learned Ethiopia was very hot and dry compared to our country of Scotland. Twelve of us would like to live there but the rest of us would find it too hot. Struan thinks there may not be enough water for everyone.

We went out to the MUGA to practise team games.

Primary 3

This week P3 have been very busy!

Sam – “We have been learning to add multiples of 100”

Kianna – “We have to make sure our work is laid out properly. That helps us to get the answer to tricky sums”.

We have also been learning about the clothes that the Romans would wear. They were very different from our clothes. “Some poeple would wear belts made of wood” – Holly “A Roman man would wear a purple toga if he was an Emporer” – Lewis

“Is the woman Roman was rich she would have fancy hair and makeup. She would have a slave to do her hair and makeup for her” – Lexi

“They would wear a tunic underneath their clothes” – Ben R.
This week we have also been very lucky and on Tuesday Sheila came out to talk to us about food and farming. We learnt lots! We also went on a class trip to Littleton farm on Thursday where we got to see a dairy farm in action.

“Sheila told us the names of lots of different types of farm” – Lexi

“We learned that milk with a red top is called skimmed milk” – Pawel

“The milk with a blue top is whole milk and a green top means it is semi-skimmed” -Alex

“The cows had jewellery. They were ear tags that told us which cow was which” – Alex

This week in topic we have been learning how the heart circulates blood in the body and the role of our arteries and veins. We got into groups outside and each took on a different role. We pretended the beanbag was the blood and passed it in the correct circulation, getting faster to show an increase in heart rate. Inside we felt, counted and compared our pulses at rest and after exercise. This helped us understand that exercise is one way to keep the heart healthy.
