Pupil Council Proposals for the Playground

On Wednesday the Pupil Council got together to decide upon how to spend £7,500 of funds on the playground.

Working in their groups, they researched the different options available from Scotplay, and agreed on equipment that they would like.

Next the Captains took a list of prices, which we already had for certain pieces of equipment, and then used that to estimate amounts for their chosen list. Here is the list below.

We are currently thinking about our options before we finally agree. We discussed that it was good to take our time, and to think carefully when spending such a large amount of money.

We also had a look at this, which looks very interesting:

Oh no it isn’t, oh yes it is!

We had a lovely school trip on the train to the panto and ice skating.

Everyone represented the school well; including Emily who was one of four audience members picked to help on stage.

Well done to all staff involved and a big thanks to Mrs Robson who planned the trip to run like clockwork.

Also a big thanks to th PFA for heavily subsidising the cost per pupil.

A Day in the Life of James F

This is this morning.

Camera

We managed to borrow a Vtech camera today, which we are thinking about buying for the P1-3 class. After showing two members of the little class how to use the camera they went off and took all apart from the last picture above at different points today. Mr Archibald then took the camera and posted the pictures here. The camera can also make videos and record sound.

Halloween Disco

All had a fun time at our Halloween Disco last night with dancing and some games.

Well done to all who took part with some cracking costumes on display. The P7s deserve a mention for organising some of the night, well done.

Also a big thanks to the parents and staff who helped out: Mark’s Mum, Ellie’s Mum, Adam’s Mum, Emily and Sarah’s Mum, Iona and Aidan’s Mum, Sandy and Douglas’s Mum, James’s Mum, Mrs Turnbull, Ms Burn and Mr Archibald.

The proceeds raised will go towards the P7 residential trip later this year.

Halloween Disco

We are having a  disco for all pupils and some invited P7s from other local schools, on the 1st of November at:

P1-3  18.00 – 19.30

P4-7  18.30 – 20.00

It’s £2 to get in which includes some grub (treacle donuts and bobbing for apples) and there will be food and drinks to buy. Dress code is fancy dress where we will have a competition for best costume.

Any donations of baking, treats or prizes most welcome.

Accelerated Reader

On the evening of Thursday the 11th of October, the staff invited all Brydekirk Primary parents in for a presentation about the new upper school approach to reading: Accelerated Reader.

There was a great turn out of parents who listened carefully to all of the work that has and is going on with reading and the library in the school. The parents also came up with a great suggestion for children to bring books they have previously read in and even came up with a sensible way to do this.

Below are the slides from Mr Archibald’s presentation and also a parent’s guide to AR.

Thanks to all involved.
