Accelerated Reader

On the evening of Thursday the 11th of October, the staff invited all Brydekirk Primary parents in for a presentation about the new upper school approach to reading: Accelerated Reader.

There was a great turn out of parents who listened carefully to all of the work that has and is going on with reading and the library in the school. The parents also came up with a great suggestion for children to bring books they have previously read in and even came up with a sensible way to do this.

Below are the slides from Mr Archibald’s presentation and also a parent’s guide to AR.

Thanks to all involved.

Chapter 27 The Caged Man

AA Ch27

If you enjoyed Amazon Adventure why not continue Hal and Rogers’ adventure in the rest of the series of books.

To mark the end of Amazon Adventure and the last week of the holidays, I’d like to set a competition for any members of P4-7 (including Teri, Callum etc.), that want to enter, here it is:

Create any piece of work about Amazon Adventure (book review, cartoon, your own story about the boys, drawings, paintings or indeed anything else you can think of – book jacket, play), using paper and pencil, pens, computer, yourself or whatever you need, and the most impressive and imaginative wins:

Ledopard Adventure, released last month from a new writer taking up the story in the 21st century.

Good luck!

According to the BBC, the Scottish Government want all Scottish school children to see Chariots of Fire, and the inspirational story of Eric Liddell. The story of Eric Liddell was the main focus for our topic on the Olympics during last session, which included a lot of good language, literacy and Health and Wellbeing work (I may even share more of the work and the plans) and it culminated with watching the film. We even learned the theme on the tin whistle.

Here’s some other good pieces by the BBC on the great man’s life and story:
