For licencing purposes schools are required to buy a licence for every iPad that a paid app goes onto. If you have 20 iPad and you would like Book Creator then you have to buy 20 copies. This can only be done with an Apple Volume Purchasing Account for Education (VPP).
If you do not have a school VPP account then you request one from firstname.lastname@example.org
Once your school has been enrolled then you can buy multiple copies of apps. The benefits are:
- Apps are all purchased through the correct Aberdeenshire procedure
- If you buy 20 or more then you get them half price
- Licences are all accountable and easy to access
The VPP account is linked to a school gmail account which doesn’t have any personal data or information. This account is only used on a computer (not and iPad).
Your school will now have to purchase credit for the account before you can buy any apps.
Credit can be purchased via Oracle and the information for this is below.
Once you have ordered the credit info will be sent to the above g-mail address.
**You only have 4 weeks to click on the redeemable link in the e-mail. If you click on the link after the 4 weeks the link will have expired**.
Guidance notes can be found to support you with this by clicking on the link below.
Guidance for Apple Volume Purchasing Programme
There are also short video tutorials which talk you through the process . You can access the video tutorials by clicking on the link below. There are 3 steps and they have been named appropriately.
When you have received your school iPads it is important that they are set up correctly.
Teacher iPads are password protected and can go home with the teacher or go on school trips.
Pupil iPads are not password protected and cannot leave the school.
You need to create an iTune account for Free Apps. If you are in a Primary school then you may only require the one account and you can set up the iPads to sync the apps onto them all. If you are in an Academy school then I would suggest setting up faculty iTune accounts for Free Apps. Again, the apps can sync onto all the iPads linked to the same faculty iTune account.
Please click on the link below to access guidance for setting up a Free iTune Account.

When you get to the point where you would like to buy apps then please log a call with email@example.com who will create an Apple Volume Purchasing Account for your school. I will add another post re the Apple Volume Purchasing Programme for Education.
Last term the only way schools could purchase apps via the Apple Volume Purchase Programme was with the school Purchase Card.
We now have a new facility where schools can purchase Credit for the Apple Volume Purchase Programme. Schools can purchase credit through Oracle using the information below.
Volume Purchase Programme Credit via Oracle.
The company supplying the credit is XMA who are already in Oracle as our main iPad supplier.
Credit can be purchased in quantities of money e.g.
1 = £1 50 = £50 100 = £100
Item Number for the Credit would be: D6701Z/A
The important part is that schools must supply the e-mail address that’s linked to their Apple Volume Purchase Programme.
An additional document with the above info is attached below for you to print off if required.
