Leavers Boat Trip

On the 26th of June, the P7’s, Mrs Leask and Mrs MacFarlane went on a boat trip after school. On the boat trip we went from the Port Ellen pier to Ardbeg Distillery.

On the boat trip we saw some Seals and even baby Seals too! We also got a chance to drive the boat from distillery to Distillery.  When we got to each Distillery we stopped and the tour guide told us some facts about the Distillery. when we got to Kildoghtan, they told us about a haunted house on the top of a hill. They told us that the owner was buried on top of a different hill. On the way back to the pier we went really fast and we all got soaked!

Our Day At The Dig

On Thursday the 23rd of June, we went to a Dig at Port Charlotte. We went to the dig on the banana bus and when we got there we had to walk down a long path to the ruins where we were to be learning about. First we were welcomed into their headquarters and were introduced to the team members, and we were split into our year groups. P5 went to dig first as P6 were looking at a ruined house that was being dug up, the P7 went to go find a white button in a tray of soil and pottery.

When the P6 went to our first station we learnt about on of the ruined houses and we got told about what they had found out already because they had already been doing it for 2 weeks. They found the the house was split into two parts, one part was for animals and the other part was for people.

P6 then went to go dig, we got told about a house that has a pipe. Then we went to dig and we dug at the ground and we also found some pottery.

We then had lunch while sitting on deck chairs. We had to bring packed lunches because we would not bring school lunches with us.

After lunch P6 went to go look for the white button in the trays, we went to the trays with our partners and looked for the button and cleaned the pottery that was hidden in the muck. We finished off digging and they showed us some pottery and metal that they found.

We finished off and said goodbye to the people that were there. We walked back done the path and we went back onto the bus and we went back to school, on the way back home people were dropped off and some people were dropped off at the school.

Trèoir

This year three people called Amy, Gyles and Lynn came in to do Trèoir with us.  This is a project that involves art, music and Gaelic.

To start off we got into a circle in the hall and we all said our names in Gaelic.  My name in Gaelic in Seamus. Then Jyles made a rap song about three deer sitting on a fence trying to make 1 pound out of 85 pence. That was for music.

Then we had to paint pictures of things we see in everyday life like trees, flowers and clouds. We had to draw and paint a tree with a bench and a bush. It also had to be 3D.

Then finally we had to make our own sentence about our picture with a mixture of Gaelic words and English words.  I have enjoyed learning in Gaelic.

COP26

We have been learning about COP26 and what it is about. It started on the 1 of NOV to the 12 of NOV and it is held in Glasgow. There are 30,000 people going to attend at COP26, and 198 of them are very famous people from all around the world. Some of the famous people going are Joe Biden, Boris Johnson and Greta Thunberg and many more will be there at COP26. COP26 stands for conference of the parties.

COP26 are going to try and solve the problem of CLIMATE CHANGE! Some major disasters, that might happen if we don’t try to stop climate change, is that the temperature might rise up 1.5C and the water levels might rise 1.1 meters. But if we don’t do anything until 2030, the water levels might rise up to 5 meters. WHO WAN’TS THAT TO HAPPEN! What the Scotland is trying to achieve is to be net zero by 2030 and to make all cars electric, and to make the cheaper.

The reason why they are doing it is because everyone needs to help solve the problem of climate change.

James= I think that the people at COP26 have not done enough because I don’t think that any of them are going to do anything about it.

Dylan= I think that they have done enough because they have discussed that what they are going to do and what is going to happen.

The Be Eco Group

The Be Eco group is all about trying to be more eco friendly during life because we want to stop climate change and global warming. The people that run the group are James Norwood, Connor Stevenson, Jacob Hart and Hugh Mackinnon.

Some of are goals are to make bee bombs so that we can plant more flowers, and another one of our goals is to plant some more trees around the school. There are lots of other goals for our group, but there are to many to mention.

My Endeavor On The Heart By James

My Endeavor is on the heart. I think that this it a helpful skill to learn because if in future if someone asks your about something about the heart you can straight away answer the question and tell them the information.

This Endeavor, which is my first one, has been quite challenging because it is a whole new skill to learn but there is lots of people who can help me, for example my mum. My mum is a doctor so she knows lots about the heart so she can help my lots with this Endeavor. In my endeavor I made a 3d model of the heart, a report on the heart, a letter to Dr Chris from operation ouch, a poster on the heart and instructions on how to check your heart rate.

Here is a photo of a labeled heart.

Google Meet With a Marine Biologist

On Monday the 7th, we had a google meet with a marine biologist called Saana and we learnt about all of the things you have to do to be one.

The first thing we learnt about was the engineering involved with it like boats. She told us all about what boats she uses at which time. One of the boats was a wooden yacht that has everything you need to do her job.

The second thing that we learnt was the communication of sea mammals. We learnt that seals clap there flippers to make a “clap” noise and that dolphins jump out of the water to play and sometimes to communicate.

The third thing that we learnt was her career. We asked questions about stuff like ” How long does it take to get a career on marine biology?”  We found out that you need a degree to learn all about it.    We found out she needs to ask good questions and then do research to find the answers.  She works with the navy to check they are not damaging animals with sonar under the water.  Tracking sea mammals is tricky and they have long poles they use to get trackers on the whales.  It sounds like being a marine biologist is really interesting.

My Place Photo Competition

The My Place Photo Competition is where you go around your village and take a picture of something. This happens every year and each year, there is a different theme. This years theme is Climate Change which means that your picture has to include something that is caused by Climate Change and something that is man made. I found this very interesting because we got to walk around the village. My photo was of rusty chains and I called it Climate Chains.
