  • Turas gu Saligo

Chaidh G4-7 & P5-7 gu Saligo airson an topic againn. Tha an topaig againn air cruinn-eòlas Ìle. Bha sinn air an traigh salago a lorg clachan diofraichte mar metamorphic, igneous agus sedimentary. Chòrd e rinn a’ dèanamh bholcanoan air an traigh.

We braved the Islay weather 🌧️ and headed out for a day of outdoor learning at Saligo Beach to investigate the different types of rock found on our island. We began by looking at a geological map of Islay and learning about the rock cycle, discussing how rocks can be igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic, including gneiss.

On the beach we explored the rocks around us, thinking about sediment and separation and how plate movement over millions of years can cause rock formations to bend and buckle, shaping the landscape we see today.

Later, we travelled to Port Charlotte where we became scientists and created our own mini volcanoes 🌋 on the beach using baking powder and vinegar, which was great fun!

The day showed how powerful outdoor learning can be, helping us to learn through real experiences in our local environment. It also links to the 🌍 UNCRC, particularly Article 29, which supports our right to develop our talents and abilities through education. Throughout the day we demonstrated our school values of ambition, creativity and equity as we explored, experimented and supported one another in our learning.

Today the P6 Changemakers worked together to help improve our school grounds by
planning and tidying the raised beds. They showed great ambition and creativity as they discussed ideas and worked hard to make the area look better for everyone. Their teamwork and care for our outdoor spaces links to our Eco Schools work, helping us look after the environment and make our school a nicer place to learn and play. This also reflects our school value of equity, as you are improving a shared space for the whole school community. Your work links to the UNCRC Article 12 (respect for children’s views) and Article 29 (developing talents and abilities) as you used your ideas and skills to make a positive change in our school. 🌱🌍

  • P567- Vive La France!

Today our classroom transformed into a French bistro for the afternoon! 🗼🥐 The pupils practised their French vocabulary and conversation skills by taking on the roles of customers and waiters. They used French to order food and drinks, ask questions, and take orders, just like in a real café.

It was fantastic to see everyone building confidence speaking French and using the phrases we have been learning. After all their hard work, the class had the chance to order and taste a selection of delicious French pastries… but only after ordering them in French, of course!

🥐✨ This learning links to the 🌍UNCRC Article 29 – Goals of Education, which highlights that education should help children develop their talents, abilities and cultural understanding. Through learning French and exploring French food culture, pupils are broadening their knowledge of the world and developing important communication skills.

    🌟 Swimming Gala Champions! 🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️

Well done to our amazing swimmers who represented our school so proudly at the swimming gala! We are delighted to celebrate our winning team, who showed fantastic determination, teamwork and positive attitudes throughout the event.

This achievement really reflects our school values of Ambition, Creativity and Equity. Our swimmers showed ambition by pushing themselves to do their best, supported one another with creative teamwork and encouragement, and demonstrated equity by cheering on every competitor and celebrating everyone’s effort. This also links to the UNCRC. Events like this support Article 29 – the right to develop talents and abilities, as pupils are encouraged to grow their confidence, skills and interests through sport. It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying the opportunity to take part and succeed. 👏 A huge well done to all swimmers who competed – we are very proud of you!

  • 📚🥐 Bookie Breakfast – World Book Day!

☕📖 This morning we celebrated World Book Day with our annual Bookie Breakfast! Many of the children came to school wearing their pyjamas, making it an extra cosy start to the day. Pupils enjoyed breakfast together while sharing and reading their favourite books. It was wonderful to see everyone chatting about stories, discovering new books and celebrating a love of reading across the school. A lovely way to start the day and celebrate World Book Day! 🌟

  • Lochgoilhead

Chaidh clas 7 air turas a-muigh gu Lochgoilhead. Chaidh air speedboat agus abseiling. Cuideachd, aon oidhche rinn sinn Nightwalk, far a choisich sinn tro poll.

    Ben

Class 7 went on a field trip to Lochgoilhead. They went speedboating and abseiling. Also, one night we did a Nightwalk, where we walked through mud.

    Lochgoilhead Day 1

Today, we jumped straight into the High Ropes challenge as soon as we arrived. We enjoyed challenging ourselves and working as a team to climb and belay each other. Dinner was burgers & chips, before a 3 mile night walk through the woods and across rivers. Everyone is doing amazing and looking forward to bed before another packed day tomorrow.

    Lochgoilhead Day 2

This morning, both groups headed out to the water for sailing/canoeing 🛶⛵️ After lunch, group 1 went up to the crag for abseiling, while group 2 went back to the loch for sailing. This evening, we had pasta bolognaise or mac and cheese. Then we headed back outside for Night Line – a series of blindfolded challenges.

    Lochgoilhead Day 3

Our third and final day was jam-packed with activities ⛵️ – boat trips, archery, and canoeing or abseiling. Everyone had a blast having a go doing figures of 8s on the boat! 🚤 We have really enjoyed our last day, ending with a disco to celebrate our time at P7 camp. 🪩

  • Leadership

Today we welcomed Erin, our Active Schools Coordinator ⚽, who led a Sports Leadership afternoon with the class. Pupils focused on developing their leadership skills by learning how to organise and adapt playground games so that everyone can take part.

They explored how to give clear instructions, support younger pupils, and think carefully about how games can be adapted to ensure they are inclusive and enjoyable for all. The class then practised leading the games with one another, developing their confidence in explaining rules, organising equipment, and encouraging participation. This preparation will help them lead these games with P1–3 pupils during lunchtime breaks, supporting active and inclusive play across the school.

This learning links to 🌍 UNCRC Article 15 (freedom to meet and join groups) and Article 31 (the right to play), as pupils are helping to create opportunities for younger children to play together in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive way. It was fantastic to see pupils demonstrating teamwork, communication, responsibility, and leadership throughout the afternoon.
