STEM at Bowmore Primary
At Bowmore Primary, we recognise the important role that Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) plays in preparing children for life in a rapidly changing world. We aim to nurture curiosity, creativity and problem-solving from ELC through to P7, helping children become confident, capable learners and future innovators.
Our Approach
We provide engaging, hands-on STEM experiences that encourage children to explore, question and investigate. Learning is often linked to real-life contexts and the world of work, helping children understand how STEM connects to everyday life.
Children develop key skills including:
- Problem solving and critical thinking
- Creativity and innovation
- Communication and teamwork
- Analysis and evaluation
Learning Through STEM
STEM is taught both as individual subjects and through interdisciplinary learning, allowing children to make meaningful connections across the curriculum. Our approaches include:
- Practical investigations and enquiry-based learning
- Outdoor learning and sustainability projects
- Use of digital technologies and real-world materials
- Collaborative and independent learning opportunities
Our island setting provides a rich environment for outdoor learning, helping children develop an understanding of the natural world and their role within it.
Partnerships and Real-Life Learning
We work closely with parents, local partners and wider organisations to enrich STEM learning. Through events, projects and digital links, children connect with real-world contexts and develop their understanding of future careers.
Inclusion and Equity
We are committed to ensuring all children can succeed in STEM. We actively challenge stereotypes and promote equality, encouraging all learners—particularly girls—to see themselves as scientists, engineers and problem-solvers.
Building Skills for the Future
Through our STEM curriculum, children develop skills for life, learning and work. We aim to build confidence, resilience and curiosity so that every child leaves Bowmore ready to engage with the challenges and opportunities of the modern world.
