On December 8th the P4-7 class at Strone Primary School went to West College in Greenock to practise their cooking skills in preparation for their Community Restaurant Evening at The Pier Hotel in Kilmun.

Dunoon Primary Win Inter School Speech Contest!
Dunoon Primary have been very busy preparing speeches for this years contest. The annual school competition at Dunoon was well attended by parents and members of the Association of Speakers Club Dunoon, who worked diligently coaching the young speakers.
The ten finalists displayed excellent speaking skills and delivered the most interesting topics – to name a few Piper Alpha, The European Refugee Crisis and My Asthma.

Dunoon Primary Pop-up Shop Success
On Thursday, 3rd December, P6/5 and P7/6 opened their 60s themed pop-up shop in the Function Suite at “The Braes”. The shop was very busy all day and by lunchtime the children had to start taking orders for vinyl clocks as they had run out of stock! One pupil had a great idea to have a raffle with the prize being a hamper filled with 60s goodies, including a Beatles album. The children made a fantastic profit of over £700 which will be put towards resources for the classes and hopefully a trip to “Scotland Street Museum” in the New Year for a lesson in a 60s classroom.

Scottish Book Week at Dalintober PS and ELCC
Pupils in Dalintober PS and ELCC recognised and celebrated Scottish Book Week through a whole-school project which culminated in a ‘Sharing Our Learning’ assembly. Activities included reading and voting on the finalised books for the book awards, ‘Dress as your favourite book character’, reading and creating Scots’ texts and researching the history of Scots’ language and the meanings of key words and phrases.

Our Visit to Winston Churchill’s by P5 pupil Brooklyn
On Thursday the 26th November, Strone Primary School went to Winston Churchill’s to talk to them about venison and all the things that you can make from venison. We wanted to visit because we wanted to find local produce that we could use for our evening meal that we are cooking in The Pier Hotel in Kilmun in the New Year.
We had decided upon venison sausages and wanted to see how they are made and where they come from.

Titanic Open Day at Gigha Primary
Pupils at Gigha Primary spent last term learning about RMS Titanic. The culmination of this busy term was the re-creation of a First Class Afternoon Tea Party for parents, family and members of the community. Pupils showed visitors around the displays of their work, recounted the story of the Titanic and performed pieces of music to the audience. An entertaining and rewarding afternoon was had by all!
Donation to Raven Trust
Strachur Primary P6-7 have donated proceeds from selling a school newspaper to a local charity that supports communities in Malawi. They also sold second hand school uniforms, making their total donation up to £70. The money will be used to purchase jotters and pens for school children across Malawi. Mr Challis from the Raven Trust was very thankful for the donation and promised to come back with photographs from his trip next year. Annie and Tommi (house captains) are pictured presenting the cheque to Mr Challis.
St Andrew’s Day at St Andrew’s Primary School
Pupils at St. Andrew’s Primary School treated their parents and parishioners to an afternoon of poetry, song, dance and art on St. Andrew’s Day. The celebration of teaching and learning was the culmination of a weeklong learning journey by each class exploring all things Scottish.
Primary 6/7 shared their learning about the life and times of our national bard, Robert Burns, and sang a beautiful rendition of Leezie Lindsay before encouraging school mates and parents to join in with the rousing Charlie is My Darling.

St Andrew’s Day celebrations at Parklands
Pupils at Parklands had a fun-filled day on Monday to celebrate St Andrew’s day. They took part in a range of Scottish activities including Scottish ceilidh dancing, Scottish food tasting, a mini Highland games and a Scottish inventors challenge. In class pupils were learning about the life of St Andrew and some Scottish history.

Benmore Banquet for Strone Primary School!
As part of our Food for Thought project the P1-3’s visited the James Duncan Café at Benmore Gardens to sample local produce and learn about sources of food and food journeys.
We received a warm welcome from all the staff who treated us to a delicious 3 course banquet of locally sourced dishes, including Loch Fyne Smoked Salmon and Braddan Rost with Black’s of Dunoon Oatcakes, Winston Churchill Venison Casserole and Burgers and Isle of Arran Ice-Cream with samples of home-baking from the café. Dalintober PS and ELCC Fundraise for Children In Need
Dalintober PS and ELCC raised funds for BBC’s ‘Children In Need’ annual appeal last Friday. A non-uniform day was held – with an array of outfits and costumes on show! Various smaller fundraisers were led by pupils throughout the day including a discothon, cake stall, face painting and much more. A fabulous £430.03 was raised for the charity.

On Tuesday the P7s held an ‘All Day Beetle Drive’ where they invited each of the classes in the school to play ‘Beetle’. Great fun was had by all!

In Dunoon Primary, Mrs Macdonald and P7 organised a Drawing Competition, a Raffle, made Badges and Bookmarks, held a Non Uniform Day and held a Bake Sale all to raise money for Children in Need. Thanks to the fantastic support of staff, pupils, parents and friends of Dunoon Primary the amazing sum of £928.47 was raised. A huge thank you to all!

Wear to Scare for Save the Children
The children of Salen Primary School and Pre-school held a Wear to Scare day for Halloween to raise funds for Save the Children. The children and staff came to school dressed up for the day and staged a magnificent parade in the hall. The school hall had been spookily decorated by Janny Jan for the village Halloween party organised by our lovely SWRI. It was the perfect venue for a quick parade and collection which amounted to £80.
