On Thursday, 3rd December, P6/5 and P7/6 opened their 60s themed pop-up shop in the Function Suite at “The Braes”. The shop was very busy all day and by lunchtime the children had to start taking orders for vinyl clocks as they had run out of stock! One pupil had a great idea to have a raffle with the prize being a hamper filled with 60s goodies, including a Beatles album. The children made a fantastic profit of over £700 which will be put towards resources for the classes and hopefully a trip to “Scotland Street Museum” in the New Year for a lesson in a 60s classroom.
Following the day’s events, the children came back to “The Braes” in the evening for a sixties disco. They all made a huge effort to dress in 60s inspired clothing; the girls went to town with 60s hair and make up too! The highlight of the evening was a “twist” dance off which every pupil, teacher and parent took part in … A fantastic way to celebrate the end of the topic and all the children’s hard work.
Thanks go to Jennifer and her team at “The Braes” for helping us in the run up to the big day and for all her effort in helping to make the day such a success. Also, to Dunoon Community Radio, who provided music for the shoppers and a fabulous disco with lights and smoke machines in the evening.
Such a terrific day for the pupils, well done Alison & Maxine!
