Our Japan topic really came to life today as we went to the kitchens to make our own Sushi.
Sushi is a Japanese food made from sticky rice, which is rolled up in a seaweed sheet around vegetables or fish, then cut into short lengths. We also tasted some yellow and red Miso Soup, made from soya beans.

Active Schools Co-Ordinator Lindsay Mitchell presented Strone Primary School pupils with a bag of sports equipment for having the highest percentage of pupils taking part in the Commonwealth Passports scheme last year, which rewarded pupils participating in extra-curricular sports activities both in and out of school.

All of the pupils in St Columba’s Primary School and Rockfield Primary School were invited to create or design a flower in memory of someone or something special to them. Some of the designs that came in were very creative and they were used to create a Garden of Remembrance within the Assembly Hall. Both schools also came together for a Remembrance Day service which was led by Rev Dugald Cameron.
As part of an action packed Health Week at Strone Primary, pupils took on the British Heart Foundation’s Jump Rope for Heart sponsored skipping challenge and raised a fantastic £260!
The week long programme also included taster sessions in yoga, karate and zumba, wildfire cooking and outdoor learning activities.
We were inspired at Toward Primary School by the Tower Bridge poppies to make our own clay poppies to commemorate the end of the WW1. We have also made a poppy wreath which we will lay at the Memorial at Innellan on Remembrance Day.

Thursday 30th October was not a good night to visit St. Mun’s Primary with all manner of spooks and weird looking people lurking about….. not to worry though it was only the pupils of Primary 4-7 who had turned up for the Halloween Disco, which was organised and run by the Primary 7s as part of their Enterprise project.
The children enjoyed a night of dancing, games and fun while they feasted on snacks including cakes which had been iced by the pupils who attend the Cake Decorating, afterschool club. Mmm!

After long hard-fought election campaigns and a lot of research, interdisciplinary learning and even a visit to the Scottish Parliament building in Edinburgh, the polls opened for the pupils and staff at St. Mun’s to vote for the new head boy and girl and their deputies and representatives for each class for the pupil council. On Wednesday 29th October a group of pupils from the S3 Numeracy project attended a Challenge Day at Clydeview Academy. The pupils spent the day working in teams, made up of both schools, trying to solve logic puzzles and problem solving questions. Pupils from both schools worked very hard to be part of the winning team but with only two unsolved puzzles and more than half of the problem solving puzzles correct the winning team included Briege Liddell and Evan Meyer-McDonagh from DGS. Pictured are children at Port Charlotte school dressed in pink for our recent Breakthrough Breast Cancer Bake Sale. All the children in the school and pre5 unit had spent the week baking a variety of delicious goodies and on the Friday members of the local community were invited into the school for tea and a cake sale. Over forty visitors came and enjoyed our cakes and a display of individual project work by P3/4/5. We were delighted with the fantastic amount of £349 which we raised for Breakthrough and we’d like to thank everyone who helped with baking and donations
Wow! Kirn’s Halloween Party was fantastic, with so many amazing costumes, music and dancing. There were games of Corners and Musical Statues, and prizes for the best costumes. A fantastic fun night for all!
Some strange looking characters have set up camp in the grounds of Rosneath Primary School! They sent a letter to the children pleading for a place to stay after being “evicted” from their home (field) on a nearby farm for not doing their job properly. What a cheek!
We think they help make our grounds look spectacular so they can stay for as long as they like. Welcome to our new Scarecrow Family made from recycled materials.

A recent visit to Rosneath Primary School by Chief Chebe from African Arts in Glasgow had the “joint jumpin'”. What a wonderful learning experience.
The day began with a whole school Assembly related to Black History Month as part of our school’s Global Citizenship journey. The children were amazed at just how far some children have to walk in African countries to collect clean drinking water.
4 lucky children from Rosneath Primary were invited to Glasgow City Chambers last Thursday to a Game On Scotland Celebration Event. They had the opportunity to meet up with 80 other children from schools all over Scotland for a fun-filled day where they met Team Scotland/Team GB athletes from 4 different sports. All schools taking part had been awarded a Game On Scotland plaque and shared their challenges.
Former SPL Star Visits DGS
It’s not every day that DGS pupils can boast of being part of a football training session with a national cup winning manager – but that is exactly what happened last week, when Dylan Kerr visited the school.
Dylan enjoyed a very long and distinguished playing career, including successful spells with Leeds United and Kilmarnock.
CAST is happy to announce that the following budding graphic novel creators have won prizes in the 2014 Argyll and Bute Writing Competition, supported by Scottish Book Trust. First prize is scooped by Ellie Grierson from Lochdonhead Primary, second place goes to Holli Wilson from Rhu Primary and third is awarded to Morvern Paisley from Clachan Primary. Recently, we had an amazing Eco Week – so much going on! From model making using recycled materials to Beach Cleaning to welcoming our “visitors” from Zoolab to sprucing up our school grounds to Teamwork(out) Day to whole school village walk to planting………………..the list is endless!
Pupils at Strone Primary transformed themselves into gruesome Halloween characters and enjoyed an afternoon of fun and games.
Dunoon Primary had an exciting Halloween disco provided by their wonderful PTA last night. The hall was adorned with the pupils Halloween art work and decorations. The flashing lights set the scene for a fun filled night as the DJ Steven played a good selection of songs that the pupils had chosen themselves. The teachers were hard at work providing fun Halloween activites like feely boxes, apple dooking and doughnuts on a string.
The Eco Committee has been working with PC Heather Simpson on the 20 mph speed limit area outside the school. Heather told the pupils that when the lights flash it means that drivers are reminded to be aware of pupils traveling to or from school and to slow down.
Dunoon Primary School were delighted to announce at our recent assembly that we have a new Head Boy – P7 Logan and a new Head Girl – P7 Emma. The hall was full of enthusiastic parents and pupils when it was announced by Mrs Sylvia Clark our Headteacher. The Pupil Council were all given colourful badges, well done for all their hard work in our school!
