Our Japan topic really came to life today as we went to the kitchens to make our own Sushi.
Sushi is a Japanese food made from sticky rice, which is rolled up in a seaweed sheet around vegetables or fish, then cut into short lengths. We also tasted some yellow and red Miso Soup, made from soya beans.
Our sushi had carrot and cucumber strips inside our rice roll, inside our seaweed sheet. So was it easy to make? And how did it taste?
“It was quite simple” said Ally, “the hard part was the rolling – you had to get it really tight so that when you cut it, it didn’t all fall out. I loved it!”
Katie said “The rice smelled a bit because it had vinegar and salt in it to make it sticky. You had to put the veg at the end, not in the middle. I liked the rice but the seaweed tasted a wee bit like tartare sauce.”
