Bunessan choir and chanters.

Bunessan Primary School P6/7 choir and chanter players entertained the local community at the Christmas Community Cafe held in December 2012. The choir, The Gracenotes, sang a variety of popular Christmas carols including verses that they composed themselves while the chanter group played Amazing Grace. Whilst there, the P5’s were resposible for selling Christmas cards that the children had designed to raise money for school funds. All present had a great time and the children were praised for representing their school within the local community. Continue reading Bunessan choir and chanters.

Rhunahaorine Rockets

Children at Rhunahaorine primary school took part in a Stargazing Live event organised by West Kintyre Stargazers. The first week of term was extremely busy as we learned all about the constellations we can see from Kintyre, imagined what it would be like to travel in space and created rockets using the tubes from fizzy vitamin C tablets. We had a test launch on Friday 11th January and parents and children took part in the open event at the Putechan hotel on Sunday 13th. Everyone enjoyed themselves and learned a lot about what there is to see if you just look up! Continue reading Rhunahaorine Rockets

Artist visits Dalintober PS during ‘Big Draw’ week

All pupils (and staff!) of Dalintober Primary thoroughly enjoyed letting their artistic juices ‘flow’ as part of the CAST organised ‘Big Draw’ week. Teachers used ideas from the resource pack to encourage pupils to draw and sketch pictures with a focus on many curricular areas. We were delighted, on the final day of our ‘Big Draw’ week to welcome artist, Eileen Ramsay, to our school. Eileen worked with our Primary 2 class and a mix of Primary 7 and Primary 4 pupils and all involved found Eileen’s input motivating and fun. Thank you CAST! Brownies and Guides at DPS

Peverley McChlery, Girlguiding Cowal District Commissioner attended morning assembly on 9th January 2013. She told the children a brief history of the Scout and Guide Movement. The fact they were both over 100 years old, and that Lord Robert Baden-Powell an army officer had originally decided in 1907 that boys and young men may enjoy an organisation where they could do many outdoor activities, like camping, tracking and learning how to live off the land. These were children that never got the chance to do this sort of thing. Continue reading Brownies and Guides at DPS

Stable Manners at Strone.

Strone Primary School’s recent performance of the Musical Nativity, “Stable Manners” was a huge success thanks to the hard work of the children, staff and Parent Council. The children brought their characters alive for the audience who tapped their toes to the lively music and catchy songs. Thanks to the hard work of the Parent Council and the local community we were able to hold the two performances in the Highgate Hall in Strone which ensured a well supported community event. Many thanks to all those who gave their support in donating lighting, sound equipment, haybales, props, cleaning materials and elbow grease! It was very much appreciated.
