Nursery Tuesday 29th September

We spent a lot of time outdoors today as it was such a beautiful day! The pipes and slate were popular again with groups of children creating channels for balls to go down. They then chose balls of different weights to see which ones would go farthest! Lots of scientific fun! At group time, we looked at ‘sorting’ different things into groups. One group were sorting a set of plastic fish and decided the best way to sort them was into colours. Another group worked with lots of pine cones and came up with different ways of sorting them e.g. small and big, or small, thin and big. Great maths!

Monday 28th September

Today both AM and PM groups went on an autumn walk to find and look for autumn treasures. We found lots of different kinds of leaves, we talked about their shapes and colours. We will use these leaves in maths work (sorting and matching) tomorrow. AM children were pretending to be falling autumn leaves we used music to help us float and tumble to the ground. We were also pretending to be hibernating hedgehogs and squirrels hiding nuts. PM children did some music today, we sang dingle dangle scarecrow. We printed pictures of autumn leaves and used autumn colours.

Thursday 24th September

We had a wonderful day – both AM and PM children made bird feeders AM children hung them on the trees in the nursery garden, PM children will hang them up on Monday. We made them by threading cheerios onto pipe cleaners, we counted how many cheerios we threaded on and can’t wait to see how many the birds have eaten!

Both AM and PM children did gym today, AM with Mr Cox and PM with Mrs Fletcher. We were learning about finding a space of our own, moving in different ways into spaces, balancing bean bags as well as throwing and catching them. Mr Cox worked on spaces and balance using some of the gymnastic equipment.

We continued to explore our autumn topic and talked about the weather especially what happens to the trees when the wind blows. As it was a windy blustery day, PM children went out to the big field and Mrs Fletcher flew her big colourful kite – not massive success as the wind was swirly but we will try again another day. Some of the children wanted to make a kite and fly it too. AM children will get the opportunity to do this tomorrow  – wind allowing.

We heard a story about a windy blustery day in autumn and found out what some of the animals and birds do at this time of year.

The nursery bulletin for this week and next should be sent by email either today or tomorrow or can be collected in paper form from nursery.

Everybody should have received their parents evening appointment today.

Best wishes,

Mrs Fletcher

Nursery: Wednesday 16th September

This morning, the messy room was busy with clocks and numbers and cars and animals kept people busy in the big room. When we were playing outside, we used the big dice and played a number game where we had to find the number chalked on the floor that matched the number of spots on the dice.

In the afternoon, Quinn’s mum baked gingerbread with all the children. What a lovely smell permeated all the areas! There was still time to play outside, showing safe play, and carry out our Humpty Dumpty egg investigation.

Nursery: Tuesday 15th September

What another lovely sunny day! We were printing numbers at the painting table, making clocks at the gluing table and building wall for Humpty Dumpty using bricks. We had a lot of time to play outdoors and show that we know how to play safely. At group time in the morning, we investigated the difference between cooked and uncooked eggs. Gooey and interesting fun.

Monday 14th September

Both AM and PM boys and girls have been learning the rhyme Hickory Dickory Dock today. We talked about a very old Grandmother clock which Mrs Fletcher brought in to show us, we listened very carefully to it say ‘tick, tock’. We talked about the rhyming words. We made clocks at the glueing and sticking table.

AM children did some drama today, we were using the story ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and pretending to be Jack and the Giant!

PM children did music today, we tried to keep a steady beat just like a clock using different parts of our body – clapping hands, tapping knees, clicking fingers etc. Some children were interested in Fire Engines so we heard a story about Fireman Sam.

Friday 11th September

The boys and girls were making the most of the lovely weather and we had most of our session outside in the nursery garden. We played What’s the time Mr Wolf ? which was great fun. Mrs Keenan, the music teacher, came into nursery and we played singing and action games. We heard the story about Jack and the bean stalk. We played the bear and the honey pot.

Thursday 10th September

Today the morning and afternoon children did gym in the hall. We played traffic lights where they had to listen carefully for the instructions. We practised our throwing and catching skills using the beanbags and played a game called ‘toast’. At the end of the lesson we tried to throw the beanbags onto a target. We are learning to find a space of our own and  listen to instructions in the gym hall. AM and PM children continued to make Humpty Dumpty pictures and sing the nursery rhyme.

In group time we asked the children what they liked about nursery and what they would like to see in nursery that we are not already doing.

Another lovely day for outside play. We are learning to keep safe while playing outside.

Nursery: Wednesday 9th September

In the morning, children spent a lot of time enjoying the different areas in the nursery, building sandcastles, designing Humpty Dumpty characters for display and building models.

In the afternoon, we went to the hall and tried out the dance moves the morning children were taught yesterday. The children were excellent dancers and most also had a shot of drumming using the cajon drums.  An extra treat in the afternoon was when the P1/2 pupils came in to share some of their alternative Humpty Dumpty poems.

Nursery: Tuesday 8th September

This morning, the children enjoyed a dance lesson given to them by instructor Andy. He taught them some very cool Latin moves based on Brazilian capoeira.

In the afternoon, the boys and girls spent much of their time outside enjoying the bikes and the climbing frame. The plants are also well watered now thanks to a busy group of children.

We have been singing Humpty Dumpty and many children have made Humpty characters which are now sitting on a wall on our display in the Messy room.
