What have p1/2 been learning about?

We have been learning about what the police do.  She told us that when people don’t listen to her she can spray their eyes with a nippy spray. We got to try out the handcuffs, hats and jacket and she even handcuffed Miss Bredin!

We have also been learning about what a vet does to look after pets. We learned that different animals need different sizes of injections. We also learned how they would bandage a dogs sore paw. We learned that sometimes vets have to use a muzzle so that the animals don’t bite them. We got to see how the vet finds a microchip in a pet if it is lost. We also got to see x-rays of a snake, a lizard and a hedgehog.

P2s have been learning about 3d shapes. We made them from cocktail sticks, little coloured sticks or lollysticks and playdoh. We found this a little bit challenging and had to use our problem solving skills to complete them. P1s made 2d shapes (triangles, squares and rectangles) from the same materials.

P5/6/7

In our reading groups we have been using Bug Club and learning to show understanding of a text. We are working on recalling and summarising what we have read. We can predicate what will happen next and are learning to critically evaluate what we are reading giving reasons.

Melissa- In reading I am in vert and we are reading a really good book called Mobile Fear. It’s about a boy that is very good with electronics but what he doesn’t know is that the phone could bring him great danger…

Sophie Lee- In reading I am in the group rouge and we are reading The Curse Of The Highway Man. It’s about three friends that go on an adventure into an abandoned pub which it is covered in spiders and spiders web and dust. They also do a play which makes Zac change completely…

Alexander- In reading group jaune, we  are reading the Queen’s Spy. It is about a boy called Edward and his sister Bridget. He finds out that they havebeen kidnapped by a queens spy and they become friends. He was found in the barn when Edward went to get some fire wood and he gets pulled to the ground by Cobbley (his name is cobbley). When Edward finds out about him his sister comes in the door. Cobbley hides in time but when she heard Edward speaking she knew there was someone in there. She finds out and gives him food. However will they be caught…..?

P5/6/7 continued

In PE we have been learning football skills to help us play skillfully in games. Controlling the ball and dribbling are essential to play the game well. We play a game called corners and it helps you with controlling the ball and taking the ball off of other people in challenges. The whole class likes this game and we are having fun at the same time as learning. We also have to work together as sometimes two people come up from each team to play the game.

P5/6/7

In our class we have doing lots of interesting learning since we last posted on the blog.

Last week was Maths week and we did lots of activities using our prior learning on tables and problem solving. With the tables activities we were able to multiply using a variety of methods and strategies. In the K’Nex challenge we had to work together, reason logically and guess check and improve to create a structure. Here are some examples of our work below.

Learning in p1/2

We have been very busy developing our class charter in the last couple of weeks and getting to know each other better. It is lovely to see some new friendships forming and others continuing from last year. Here is a little flavour of our recent learning.

In maths we have been outside looking for 2d shapes in the playground and taking pictures of them. We used the pictures to sort the shapes into categories and p2 pupils labelled the shapes using skitch.

In number work p1 have been focusing on forming numbers 1-6 and representing them in different ways. P2 have been learning about tens and ones and using this knowledge to help order numbers from the smallest to the biggest.

In spelling and phonics p1s have been learning their sounds and listening for them in words. P2 have been focusing on words with the ai and oa sound.

During discovery time in the nursery we have been using our motor skills to take apart a laptop and exploring the parts we have found. We have been using problem solving skills to make obstacle courses with loose parts outside (and inside). We have used non-fiction books to look at different people who help us and have created a giant police man, fire girl and fire engine to display in our classroom. In health we have been exploring similarities and differences and have used small loose parts to create a self portrait.

Learning in p1/2

This week we have been very busy settling back into life in school. We Have been learning lots!

In maths p2s have been learning all about tens and units. p1s have been doing lots of counting and number recognition within 10.

In writing, we wrote a postcard about our summer holidays.

On Thursday afternoon we used the nursery to enhance our learning through play. Some of us used problem solving skills to create a train track, we used a smartboard game to practise our maths skills and we were learning about keeping ourselves safe while using the construction bench.

Developing digital skills in p1/2

Yesterday afternoon we worked in groups to create our own stop motion animations. We worked very well together in our groups to share the roles and turn a well known story into a stop motion animation. Here are the results:

P3/4 snow day activities for Friday 2nd

If it’s safe to do so take a measuring tape or ruler and measure the depth of the snow. Check in the morning, afternoon and evening and create a graph of the changes in depth.

Go onto Sumdog and complete maths games.

Snowflake slime, follow this link for a glittery and slimy experience. https://littlebinsforlittlehands.com/winter-snowflake-homemade-slime/

Think up new and different footprint tracks you can create in the snow. Try jumping with your feet together, taking long strides or hopping.

Fill up water balloons with food colouring and cold water. Place them outside and leave them overnight. By morning they should look like giant marbles.

Can you catch a snowflake on your tongue?

Fancy making a snowstorm inside your house? Follow this link for creating your very own indoor snow fun! https://littlebinsforlittlehands.com/winter-snow-storm-in-a-jar-science/

P3/4 snow day activities for Thursday 1st March

Snow day activities  ❄️⛄️

Create a snowman without a head then take turns hiding behind the snowman as if your head belongs to the snowman. Take photos of each other!

Make the biggest snowball possible whilst creating a maze or interesting pattern of grass to follow afterwards. Does the size of the snowball relate to the length of the path created?

Look at different things covered with snow and guess what they are. Go back once/if the snow has melted and see if you recognise the feature.

Animal and birds leave trails and tracks. Find some tracks and follow them. What animals do you think they are? Do this quietly to avoid frightening any thing or anyone.

Is it possible to create an icicle? What do you think? What conditions are necessary? See if you can find examples of icicles to help you out with this task.

Write an imaginative story about snow. Who are the characters? Where is it set? What is the drama in your story? How does it end?

Whatever you decide to do keep safe and warm!🧣🧤❄️
