Primary 6 have enjoyed learning about solids, liquids and gases in Science recently. We have been investigating the different ways we can change the states of materials.
We have also created our own water filter systems to filter the dirt from the water.
As part of Science week and our IDL topic the children have been exploring how to make and test predictions about solids dissolving in water.
Experiment one involved the children to predict, investigate and record how solubility is affected by heat and stirring. The children had to predict which method would dissolve the sugar the quickest and why. We looked at this through using cold water, warm water, warm water stirred or cold water stirred. The children all worked in groups and discovered that the warm stirred water was the quickest because when water is heated and stirred, the molecules gain energy and thus, move faster.
To follow this experiment we also did the Skittle Experiment and the children loved learning that warm water dissolves the food colouring on the sweets and makes beautiful rainbow patterns. The children all had good fun and enjoyed being Scientists.
Primary 5 took an exciting trip to The Sky Academy Studios.
Each of us were given an important role (Director, Producer, Scriptwriter, Reporter, Eyewitness, Camera Operator, Editor) within our studio groups. We all worked very hard as a team, to create a fantastic news report about Fake News and how to prevent it.
It was a great opportunity to work with experts and high-tech equipment. What great fun we had!
One of P1A’s learning highlights has been investigating some of the new equipment that has arrived in school!
We used guttering, pipes, our new guttering stands, water and cars to set up an area for the children to experiment with the resources.
The children said they had so much fun seeing how super fast the cars went down the guttering and pipes. They also said that they enjoyed putting the water down the pipes.
Following on from the children’s learning on water 💧 staff provided open ended loose parts in the woods to support the children’s play. P1B used lots of science skills, problem solving and great communication to have a fantastic afternoon of outdoor learning!
Safer Internet Day was officially on Tuesday 8th February this week, however we wanted to celebrate this for the whole week.
Across our classes this week pupils were learning more about staying safe online, particularly around this year’s theme, ‘All fun and games? Exploring respect and relationships online’. The Digital Leaders set assignments on TEAMS and SEESAW for everyone to complete.
Digital Leaders shared online safety posters with each class to display in their ICT area. and at assembly they also shared their next exciting digital challenge for our learners – task focusing on staying safe online. This competition is going to be our biggest yet, with a very exciting prize!
P4 having been looking at Pictish foods as part of their IDL topic this term.
We decided to try our hand at making butter by using ancient technologies. After we had made it, we all had chance to taste some along with oatcakes, another staple of the Pictish diet.

Primary 7 have had so much fun at their first day of camp (at school!) We started the day by working together and problem solving to design and create a map of Inveralmond High School. We had some fantastic, creative ideas and we all worked so well together. Check out the winning map below – Well done Lily, Ellie-Nicole, Elly and Myah!
We spent the afternoon outside, in the sunshine, building dens in our dorm groups. There was lots of fantastic team work going on to build the most sturdy den.
At the end of day 1, dorm 6 are in the lead with a fantastic 18 points. Well done to Liam, Amor and Ryan. Great work boys!
