Challenge Poverty Week – P7

Primary 7 explored the cost of the school day. In groups, we discussed different school costs and created a diamond nine to show greater and smaller costs.
We then looked at a school calendar with different school events. We discussed the costs that these events would have.

Olympic Torch Ceremony from Olympia-Paris with P5

Primary 5 are learning about the Olympics this term. We have been following the Olympic torch’s journey so far in 2024 starting in Olympia Greece, where the ancient Olympics originated, all the way to Paris for the opening ceremony. We named ourselves after some Greek and French cities, towns and territories, and held our very own Olympic torch ceremony from Olympia-Paris, in our playground!

WL Dragons Den 2024

On Wednesday this week a group of our P5 and P7 children attended West Lothian’s Dragons Den event where they pitched their social enterprise idea to a panel of local businesses in the hope of gaining investment in their business The Toronto Boutique and Pantry.

The children asked for investment in order to expand our already successful boutique, to include other school resources, eg. school bags, lunch bags, pencil cases, etc. and also to add our very own Toronto Pantry. The children’s aim is to support our families with the increasing cost of living by helping to lower the cost of the school day.

All pupils spoke confidently before the panel of dragons and an audience of mainly secondary pupils and adults – Mrs Black and Mrs McDougall are so proud of each and every one!

Although we didn’t win the main investment, we did secure a £50 seed funding to invest in our Toronto Boutique and Pantry.

We plan to share our vision for the expansion of The Toronto Boutique and Pantry at our next Parent Council Meeting on Tuesday 19th March.

We will also share all our plans and how you can access our Boutique and Pantry, here with you when we have ironed out all the logistics.

Playground Fun

We are continuing to develop our playground areas to make them fun places to be during break times. Our PSW staff are leading games and activities with our children and we are continuing to see the positive impact it is making. The pupils are engaged, helping each other, using their imaginations and becoming more independent in leading these activities themselves.

Our playgrounds are such positive places to be!

P5 Visit Sky Academy

Primary 5 took an exciting trip to The Sky Academy Studios.

Each of us were given an important role (Director, Producer, Scriptwriter, Reporter, Eyewitness, Camera Operator, Editor) within our studio groups. We all worked very hard as a team, to create a fantastic news report about Fake News and how to prevent it.

It was a great opportunity to work with experts and high-tech equipment. What great fun we had!
