Primary 3/4 Flight Play

Primary 3/4 have been investigating flight and their knowledge of things that fly. Last week P3/4 pupils spent time playing and exploring with a variety of construction materials and how they could use these materials to make something that flies.

The pupils chose the construction material to use and made their own decisions about the type of flight item they would build. We had a wide variety of flying objects, from an aeroplane to pterodactyl! The children had great, imaginative designs and persevered even when they found things difficult.

P5 are at Low Port!

We arrived early this morning and were out and about straight away. We went for a looong walk round the Loch – the park at the end and roly polys down the huge hill was worth the walk! After lunch at the centre it was time to walk to Linlithgow Canal Centre, we loved our trip on the boat, and were very impressed with the boat’s 3 point turns!

We went back to the centre and were very excited to get to our rooms!, then we remembered we had to make our beds!! That was tough!

After a yummy dinner we went down to the peel for a game of rounders.  Once back we got snuggled into our jammies, put a film on and had some supper before bed.

We have been so busy today and there are lots of tired P5’s tonight. We have another busy day tomorrow!

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt

Some children from P1 and P2 worked with Mrs Black on one of their favourite stories – We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.

After enjoying reading the story , the boys successfully ordered the pictures to retell the story.  They then drew, coloured and annotated their own pictures to create a collaborative book of the story and used playdough to recreate scenes from the story. All before watching the animated version of the story on the smartboard. What hardworking boys!

Low Port Update

Well what a busy day that was!

We waved off our friends from group 1 whilst eating our lunch then went straight to orienteering! Everyone got to know the area of The Peel very well which will be great for tomorrow when we walk round the loch and down the canal. The nagvigation wasn’t easy but we all gave it a good go! Freya and Anais were the fastest over 2 courses and we were feeling very proud of them! 🌟

Back at the ranch we unpacked and headed down to the kitchen for lentil soup and a delicious steak pie dinner.  Everyone ate very very well! After that we headed down onto The Peel to play. A group of us played football whilst others guddled in the burn, played on the swings and did an array of gymnastics moves!

After exhausting ourselves we headed back to the centre for supper – you’ll not be surprised to know that the Nutella was the most popular choice!  We then headed off to bed and most of us cosied down and we’re fast fast asleep for 10pm.

Tomorrow half of us will be sailing whilst the other half will be off to trail the forest and streams at Beecraigs! Fun fun fun!

Nursery Loose Parts

As some of you may know from following us on Twitter, on Friday we were lucky enough to have been awarded ‘Very Goods’ by the Care Inspectorate who dropped in on us last week for a formal visit.  The role play in our brick area has substantially evolved and after the introduction of reels, bamboo, tyres and material the results were golden! We stood beside the inspector in awe of our talented children and she was blown away. We knew as practitioners to stand back, observe and allow our amazingly creative children to do what they do best…play! Here’s a teeny snippet of a very real day at Toronto! Enjoy 😊

STEM Construction Challenge

Children in our P1-3 department have been thoroughly enjoying taking part in a range of construction based challenges this week! These challenges have been collaborative, motivating and above all FUN! We have had to learn how to co-operate in mini teams, problem solve, persevere and express our own ideas using a wide range of practical materials! Here are a few snapshots of Primary 3/2 in action…with a couple of sneaky P7s who wanted in on the building site action!  Oh and Ms Elder who was instructed by the Site Manager to wear her hard hat and high viz waistcoat before she could pass through 🙂
