Children in Need Danceathon 2022

This year to raise money for Children in Need, we held a “Come as you Please” day and held a P1-7 Danceathon. Pupils and staff came to school wearing whatever they chose – some chose to wear their own clothes, some chose to wear their Pudsey t-shirts and accessories.

We threw some pretty awesome shapes at our Danceathon – the Macarena was definitely a favourite!

We raised a fantastic £149.33 for Children in Need!

Outdoor area – Work in Progress

During the last term, three Primary 5/6 pupils recognised an area of their playground that they would like to develop. The girls organised an activity to raise funds in order to buy some supplies to make a start to this area.

Over the last few days of term the girls were delighted to see that the work was well underway to repair the trellis area that they identified. These P5/6 pupils have now been organising the next steps for this area when we return after the holidays. They plan to paint the trellis and have already begun collecting ornaments to decorate with.

Fundraising

A small group of Primary 5/6 children noticed an area of their playground which was beginning to look bit tired, and they wanted to do something to make it look a bit nicer.

The trellis arch in the playground just outside our P4 classroom was looking like it could be doing with a bit of a spruce up. So these girls got together to come up with a plan to redevelop the area. The team decided they wanted to raise funds to fix the broken panels of the trellis, paint it to make it more attractive and buy some plants to train to grow on it. To do this they decided to hold a raffle. The girls created a sensory pack for the winning ticket – they created their own sensory bottle, stress balls and mindfullness colouring book (all made by themselves), to award the winner.

Every day this week the girls have been selling tickets throughout the school and have raised a total of £32. The winning Ticket was drawn this morning and Karly (P4) was delighted with her Sensory pack.

The P5/6 pupils now plan to write to the janitor to ask for their help in fixing the panels before using their funds to buy paint, which they have asked the gardening leadership group to assist them with painting.

Well done girls, and thank you for going above and beyond to make Toronto fabulous!

Primary 3’s Enterprise Project – Golden Tickets

We were feeling extremely humbled in Nursery today when Alison from the charity Mary’s Meals came in to collect a cheque for an incredible £80.38!

As part of our recent work on citizenship, Nursery staff decided that instead of accepting Christmas gifts from our lovely families, this year that we would ask them to forget the gifts for us and to try to contribute 25p so that we could raise £13.90 to feed a child for a year in a developing country. Mary’s Meals offered to double whatever we Managed to raise. Our amazing Nursery parents loved this idea and blew our target out of the water! We raised £80.38 which, once doubled by Mary’s Meals, will feed 12 children for a whole year! We can’t believe it! We are so grateful to have the most incredible children and families in our Nursery!

Alison, the representative from Mary’s Meals, was overjoyed to be invited in to speak with the children and she said that she had never heard of any other Nursery doing such a lovely charitable act in this way. Stuart from The Courier caught professional snaps and these photos will hopefully be published in The Courier next week or the following week.

Thank you again to our thoughtful families – we are overjoyed! Remember – no Christmas gifts! #familyengagement #citizenship @marysmeals

Team Jak Charity

Our children and staff were very touched today as they were taken through an Assembly dedicated to Jak Trueman, an inspirational teenager who demonstrated a remarkable strength and positivity and showed extraordinary courage and selflessness when he raised nearly £100,000 in total for various cancer charities before he, unfortunately lost his battle with cancer.

His desire to create a positive legacy grew and 6 days before he died Jak unveiled plans to support other young people walking the same journey as he had and their families. He called his Charity Team Jak.  Today, at Toronto Primary School we helped raise money for this incredible charity and with your support, are delighted to say we raised £130.  Thank you!
