P7 Prepare for Joseph

In P7 this week we designed a poster that will be used to promote our upcoming performances of Joseph and the Technicoloured Dream Coat. We considered what information was required, how we would ensure we had an eye-catching layout and included photographs that grabbed the reader’s attention. If you’re lucky enough to be attending, see how many of the posters you can spot around school!

P5 Visit Sky Academy

Primary 5 took an exciting trip to The Sky Academy Studios.

Each of us were given an important role (Director, Producer, Scriptwriter, Reporter, Eyewitness, Camera Operator, Editor) within our studio groups. We all worked very hard as a team, to create a fantastic news report about Fake News and how to prevent it.

It was a great opportunity to work with experts and high-tech equipment. What great fun we had!

P7 Literacy and Developing Their Reading Culture

P7 loved reading the book ‘Billionaire Boy’. We wrote book reports which included paragraphs, opinions, conjunctions, and interesting adjectives.

We also put QR codes on our display, which links anyone who scans it to a video of some of the P7’s discussing their opinions about the book.

A Busy Time in P6/7

P6/7 have been working hard converting fractions and decimals to percentages, as well as finding percentages of numbers.  We were looking at real life examples and found some percentages on our milk and snack packaging.  We have also been finding fractions of different amounts.

We have been taking part in the Languagenut Competition and have been doing both French and Spanish.  We have been asked to join Sumdog’s Avatar Testing Panel to offer our thoughts and opinions about the new avatars they are creating.

Some of the P6 children have been working hard revising for the Euroquiz which will take part on the 17th March.  We will be competing with other schools from West Lothian.

P5’s Internet Safety – Social Media

For Internet Safety day, Primary 5 learned the age restrictions for different social media platforms. Firstly, we named different social media platforms and guessed the age restrictions for each. Then, we revealed the true age restrictions. A lot of us were surprised by these age limits. We discussed why we think social media companies set age restrictions and came up with a lot of good reasons and thoughts.

Safer Internet Week

Safer Internet Day was officially on Tuesday 8th February this week, however we wanted to celebrate this for the whole week.

Across our classes this week pupils were learning more about staying safe online, particularly around this year’s theme, ‘All fun and games? Exploring respect and relationships online’. The Digital Leaders set assignments on TEAMS and SEESAW for everyone to complete.

Digital Leaders shared online safety posters with each class to display in their ICT area. and at assembly they also shared their next exciting digital challenge for our learners – task focusing on staying safe online. This competition is going to be our biggest yet, with a very exciting prize!

P4/5 Outdoor Learning

This morning we visited the wooded area of our playground to investigate the biodiversity there. We listed all the living things we found, took lots of photos of them and discussed the conditions that made this a good place for them to live and grow and how theses living things interacted with each other. We also made some tree bark and leaf rubbings.

Did you know to estimate the age of a tree, count the number of rings on the stump, from the centre out?!

We can’t wait to investigate other areas of our playground to see how the biodiversity differs depending on the conditions.

We wonder what we would find if we investigated a river or pond, a beach, a mountain? 🤔
