Toronto Burns Assembly 2018

At Toronto PS our children always impress us and make us proud…today was a goosebump kind of day, as together, we celebrated the life and times of the great Robert Burns.

Liam from P5 kicked the whole thing off by piping each class into Assembly where our House and Vice Captains presented poetry winners from across the school with wonderful certificates.

We managed to catch a few on video…we hope you enjoy listening as much as we did!  Follow the next few posts for all of the fun!

STEM Construction Challenge

Children in our P1-3 department have been thoroughly enjoying taking part in a range of construction based challenges this week! These challenges have been collaborative, motivating and above all FUN! We have had to learn how to co-operate in mini teams, problem solve, persevere and express our own ideas using a wide range of practical materials! Here are a few snapshots of Primary 3/2 in action…with a couple of sneaky P7s who wanted in on the building site action!  Oh and Ms Elder who was instructed by the Site Manager to wear her hard hat and high viz waistcoat before she could pass through 🙂

P1 and P2/1 Christmas Party

We were so excited today when Santa joined us for our Christmas party! Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to pop along to see us Santa! We were worried you wouldn’t manage to park your sleigh in our car park but good job you’ve done this kind of thing a few times before and knew to just park your reindeer on the roof! This year Santa requested a song from us as he’d heard our amazing Nativity and knew we all loved to sing! The children opted for jingle bells – perfect!

We were feeling extremely humbled in Nursery today when Alison from the charity Mary’s Meals came in to collect a cheque for an incredible £80.38!

As part of our recent work on citizenship, Nursery staff decided that instead of accepting Christmas gifts from our lovely families, this year that we would ask them to forget the gifts for us and to try to contribute 25p so that we could raise £13.90 to feed a child for a year in a developing country. Mary’s Meals offered to double whatever we Managed to raise. Our amazing Nursery parents loved this idea and blew our target out of the water! We raised £80.38 which, once doubled by Mary’s Meals, will feed 12 children for a whole year! We can’t believe it! We are so grateful to have the most incredible children and families in our Nursery!

Alison, the representative from Mary’s Meals, was overjoyed to be invited in to speak with the children and she said that she had never heard of any other Nursery doing such a lovely charitable act in this way. Stuart from The Courier caught professional snaps and these photos will hopefully be published in The Courier next week or the following week.

Thank you again to our thoughtful families – we are overjoyed! Remember – no Christmas gifts! #familyengagement #citizenship @marysmeals

Well done to our Nativity superstars today!

We were very proud of you all today as you shone on the big stage in all your glory! Your singing was fab, your costumes were amazing and your smiles were infectious! We loved every single second of it! Thank you to Miss Galloway, Mrs Wong, Mr Platt, Mrs Neil and Mrs Robertson for all of the effort behind the scenes!! We’re definitely in the Christmas spirit now!!

Keep your eye on The Courier next week as we may feature somewhere in it 🌟🎅🏼🎄

Growing Cress with Ms Elder

After reading all about cress seeds, some of Ms Elder’s superstars decided to grow their very own cress in pots. They loved observing the daily changes and kept a visual photographic diary for all of us to see each day when we passed by the classroom. We hope you enjoyed tasting them at home on your sandwiches! Well done everyone!
