Festive Fun in P5

Primary 5 have enjoyed a festive few weeks filled with learning and creativity. We learned the Makaton signs for Feliz Navidad, made crafts for the Christmas Fayre, and decorated our tree. The children also designed their own Christmas jumpers and created colourful Christmas hats for our Christmas lunch. They enjoyed learning the Virgina Reel, The Gay Gordons and the Dashing White Sergeant Scottish dances showing excellent pace and steps. They  finished this week by exploring how different countries celebrate Christmas, discovering lots of interesting traditions.

It’s been a fun and busy lead-up to the holidays in P5!

Spreading Christmas Cheer at Braid House

Our school choir had the wonderful opportunity to visit Braid House this week and share the festive spirit. The children performed a beautiful selection of Christmas carols and songs, filling the room with warmth and joy. Residents and staff were delighted, and it was heartwarming to see so many smiles. We are incredibly proud of our pupils for representing the school so well with their enthusiasm and lovely singing. A big thank-you to Braid House for welcoming us so warmly and making this special occasion possible.

P7 & P6/7 – Happy Place Workshop with SAINT PHNX

Primary 7 and Primary 6/7 recently took part in the Happy Place Workshop, an inspiring program led by the Scottish band SAINT PHNX. This workshop, based on the band’s song Happy Place, focuses on mental well-being, creativity, and finding joy in everyday life. Through music, personal reflection, and interactive activities, P7 explored ways to discover their own “happy place”– whether through art, nature, mindfulness, or connecting with loved ones. It was a fantastic experience that encouraged resilience, positivity, and self-expression.

Let’s Dance with P2 and P2/3

Primary 2 and Primary 2/3 have been developing their coordination, rhythm, and teamwork skills through dance. We have been learning how to keep in time with the beat, follow simple choreographed sequences, and move safely in the space around us. The children’s enthusiasm and progress has been wonderful to see.

Christmas Ceilidh with P6/7

P6/7 have been learning traditional Scottish country dances! We’ve been practicing the St Bernard’s Waltz, the Canadian Barn Dance, and the Gay Gordons. It’s been great fun, and we’ve discovered just how energetic (and exhausting!) ceilidh dancing can be.

A Busy Week in Primary 7!

This week in P7 was packed with exciting learning experiences! We learned numeracy skills through Building Thinking Classrooms, where pupils collaborated and had fun solving challenges in creative ways. In P.E., Inveralmond CHS S6 students came to help us with our football skills! We also welcomed parents into our Open Classroom for reading, where together we explored and analysed an extract from The BFG. It was fantastic to see families engaging with literacy and sharing ideas.

P5 Football Champions

This week Primary 5 began working with David from West Lothian Community Foundation on the ‘Football Champions’ programme. Football Champions is a 12 session programme aimed at P5-P7 young people to gain leadership, confidence, and football skills.

Our first 2 sessions focused on inclusive drills and keeping our brains and bodies healthy.

We can’t wait for our next session!
