We’ve had a busy start to the New Year in Primary 1! We had fun outside in our icy sand pit and we have finished the week playing ‘kaboom’ and ‘roll a number’ games to help us learn our tricky words. A great start to 2026!
Primary 6 were taking s’elf’ies and turning themselves into Santa’s little helpers.
Here are some of P6 as Christmas elves.
We have been looking at addition and subtraction in Numeracy and have been focusing on inverse operations. Primary 3 have become experts at this and have helped an alien to understand more about inverse operations by designing posters. In writing we completed our final Narrative Text about missing Christmas presents. We have had a busy week and have also enjoyed doing lots of Christmas artwork as well as attending our Christmas party and watching the P1 Nativity.
Primary 4 have been busy getting into the festive spirit this week whilst using the Metaskills to create some Christmas designs. We worked collaboratively using a range of materials to build Christmas themed furniture. We started by building a sleigh for Santa and our ideas just kept coming! The children suggested we create models of Rudolph, a gift, a chimney for Santa and we got really creative when we built a table and chairs to eat our Christmas dinner at. Mrs Love was very impressed with the focus, perseverance and leadership skills shown!
In IDL, Primary 4/5 have been learning about the landscapes and features of Scotland. We explored the Northern Lights and used photos taken in Scotland as inspiration for our chalk pastel artwork. The results are very effective!
We have been learning about Christmas around the World. To celebrate the different cultures in our classroom, one of our classmates taught us about his Christmas traditions in Romania. We took part in a fun quiz to test our knowledge, learned a traditional Romanian carol song and made our own Sorcova tissue flower for New Years.
Primary 5 have enjoyed a festive few weeks filled with learning and creativity. We learned the Makaton signs for Feliz Navidad, made crafts for the Christmas Fayre, and decorated our tree. The children also designed their own Christmas jumpers and created colourful Christmas hats for our Christmas lunch. They enjoyed learning the Virgina Reel, The Gay Gordons and the Dashing White Sergeant Scottish dances showing excellent pace and steps. They finished this week by exploring how different countries celebrate Christmas, discovering lots of interesting traditions.
It’s been a fun and busy lead-up to the holidays in P5!
Our school choir had the wonderful opportunity to visit Braid House this week and share the festive spirit. The children performed a beautiful selection of Christmas carols and songs, filling the room with warmth and joy. Residents and staff were delighted, and it was heartwarming to see so many smiles. We are incredibly proud of our pupils for representing the school so well with their enthusiasm and lovely singing. A big thank-you to Braid House for welcoming us so warmly and making this special occasion possible.
