P3 Week commencing 20th November

On Monday we were looking at the importance of “friendship” and what makes a really good friend. We also practiced our handwriting by looking at how the letters “e” and “f” are joined together.  Miss Stevenson also assisted us with our mathematical and spelling patterns.

On Tuesday we had great fun learning about magnetism. We spent time exploring and looking for items around the classroom that were magnetic.

Throughout the week we have been learning the French words for the days of the week and the weather. We have a lovely new calendar in class that helps us discuss the date and the weather in French!

Following our trip to the Kelpies we decided to draw our own pictures of the Kelpies. We used oil pastels and water colours and many of us chose to paint the Kelpies at night when they are lit in many different bright colours.

We have been very busy revising our Bench ball rules and playing lots of games in preparation for our festival next week. We are looking forward to going along to the Academy!

P3 Week commencing 13th November

On Monday we welcomed Miss Claire Stevenson; student teacher from Glasgow University, who will be working with us for the next four Mondays. In Maths we starting learning about repeating patterns and in the afternoon we worked on our logo designs for the PJ Foundation competition.  The children produced some amazing designs for the logo, so fingers crossed we might be one of the winners!

On Tuesday we had our fabulous visit to the Kelpies. They did a super job listening to the tour guide and asking some excellent questions! The pupils had the opportunity to go inside one of the Kelpies and take a look around the visitor centre. The trip was finished off with a quick visit to the Helix Park. It was a lovely morning!

On Wednesday and Thursday the class then planned and wrote very detailed recounts of their trip. They worked very hard and wrote interesting and informative reports.

On Friday we did some “Pudsey” themed maths Sudoku and problem solving activities, followed by a visit to the Children in Need Fundraising cake stall. We all had great fun buying up all the cakes and then eating them up! Some of the class also took part in a Pudsey themed design an outfit for Miss Prince’s concert performance in December.  Miss Prince had a hard job choosing the winner as there were a lot of excellent entries.  After much deliberation Miss Prince chose Ella’s design – well done Ella and thank you to everyone who took part in the competition.

Week Commencing 6th November 2017

On Monday we learned our new spelling sounds and practiced them by completing various activities at our “active” spelling stations. In Maths we finished off our work on symmetry by cutting out and folding shapes to find out if the shape was symmetrical.  In the afternoon we completed our board games all about “Maui” by making up question cards and writing a set of rules on how to play the different games.

We have also been learning about nouns, verbs and adjectives during literacy time. They have been self-assessing their writing to ensure that they try to include many different adjectives to make their stories more engaging for the reader.

The class had great fun on Wednesday when they created their own mythical creatures after being inspired by the story The Secret of the Kelpies. The class were so enthusiastic about their creations they have asked to write their own imaginative stories based on their creatures.

On Thursday the class discussed the importance of Remembrance Day and the significance of the poppy. They also explored the poem The Inquisitive Child and had some super ideas as to the meaning behind this poem.

On Friday we work hard to develop our mental maths strategies by completing our “BIG Maths” challenge.
