Merry Christmas from P3A

Wow, what a fun, busy week!

I’ll just mention some of the highlights.  On Monday we had a technology afternoon.  We were set two challenges – the first was to build the highest tower possible using only newspaper and cellotape.  It had to stand unaided, with a platform at the top for a toy car.  The car had to balance on it for 10 seconds.  Every team fulfilled the brief and the winning team built a tower that was 57cm high!  The second challenge was to make elf shoes that fitted someone in your group.  They had to be able to come off and on and be strong enough to last in a parade around the classroom.  Every team succeeded and we got two children from P3B to judge the best looking shoe to help us to decide on a winner!

Our party on Tuesday was great.  It was like a real disco with cool lights and Mr Wells was our DJ, he played lots of good music and helped with instructions for the games.  We played pass the parcel, musical statues, Christmas corners and had a Christmas zumba dance to finish off.

A large bag of daffodil bulbs was recently donated to the school and Mrs Tucker (who usually helps us with reading) came in to do some planting with us on Thursday.  She could only stay for a while so she got us started and trained a few helpers to show the others what to do – thank you! Also, a big shout out to O, L and S who did an amazing job – helping all the children in both P3 and  P1 classes to plant some bulbs – thanks boys!  The plants are for the children to look after at home and hopefully they will see some flowers in Spring.

We sang so well at the Carols Around the Tree concert – especially as we we opened the show 😉 We had been practising hard and are very proud of ourselves.  We hope you enjoyed it.

Have a wonderful Christmas,

P3A and Mrs Kennedy

P3B Week commencing 9th December

In writing we have been making recipes for “Good Friends”.  We all worked together to brainstorm our ideas of what “ingredients” would make a good friend.  We came up with loads of interesting ideas including a dollop of kindness, a sprinkle of happiness, a teaspoon of resilience and a cup of helpfulness to name but a few.  We then used these ideas to write a recipe to bake a good friend! The recipes produced were all very good and we are going to use these to remember what makes a good friend.

In Art we have been busy designing and drawing pictures of snowmen to decorate the hall for the Carols around the Christmas tree.  We chose the snowman theme as it ties in with the song we will be singing about Frosty the Snowman.  We have been learning the words to the song ready for our big performance next week.

In Maths we are continuing to work on our column addition, with the focus this week being on carrying forward a number.  We are all getting much better at remembering to add on the carrying number and to keep our work neatly laid out in the correct place value columns.

Primary 6 – The Last Day of Term 2!!!

Primary 6 have had a busy last week of Term, revisiting concepts looked at earlier in the session and consolidating some knowledge.

We’ve also had lots of fun, with a party, where Mr Wells showed his DJ skills and we played games, danced and enjoyed a snack.

We were challenged to unlock Santa’s Naughty or Nice List, to discover whose present the label had fallen off, played one of our favourites – The Pirate Game and created an image of Santa, using co-ordinates.

We would like to take the opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2020.

Kind regards

Primary 6 and Mrs Kerr

Christmas Holidays are here :)

Monday we sung with the Nursery for Linthlithgow Day Care. We really enjoyed the opportunity to sing with the youngest children in Springfield and we hope they enjoyed our singing talents 😉

On Tuesday we completed a Missing Jumper Challenge, this involved using our knowledge of maps, directions and codes. We found some of it tricky, however we did solve the mystery.

Wednesday saw us complete the SumDog Christmas Challenge, start the word meanings booklet and rehearse our Christmas song for Friday.

On Thursday we had our last ever Christmas Party at Springfield. DJ Wells was on fine form and we rocked the afternoon away to some excellent tunes.

Today, Friday we sang our Christmas Song, this will not be our last song, just our last Christmas song 🙁

And just like that we have 6 months left. The next 2 terms will be packed full of activities, songs and adventures. The next 2 weeks will be packed full of rest- we hope 🙂

Have a lovely restful Christmas break and we will see you all next decade 🙂

Merry Christmas from P2B!

This week we have continued with our Christmas celebrations and activities! On Tuesday we made our own handmade Christmas cards. We cut out different sized circles to make a snowman and then we folded some of the circles to make our snowmen 3D! Afterwards we used pens and glitter glue to add detail to our snowmen. We were very pleased with our Christmas cards!

On Monday afternoon it was the P1 and P2 Christmas party. We played musical bumps, musical statues, pass the parcel and the corners game. We also had party food and we welcomed a very special visitor! Santa came along to our party and gave each class a present.

In Numeracy this week we have been using our knowledge of our number facts to solve problems involving money. We had to use our number bonds to add money amounts and find different ways to make given money totals. This week we also completed an addition assessment to check our understanding. It covered adding 10 to a number, adding a single digit to a teens number, bridging 10, addition facts for 20 and adding 3 numbers. We definitely need our holidays now!

In Literacy this week we have revised all of our consonant blends. We used our blends to make different words on the magnetic boards and we created mind maps for a blend of our choice. On Thursday we wrote sentences by finding the missing ‘gr’, ‘pr’ and ‘tr’ words.

Thank you for reading all of our blog posts in 2019! We hope that you have a happy and healthy Christmas and a fantastic new year.

P4B Having Christmassy Fun

Well we have reached the end of the term and the end of 2019. The children have worked so hard and I’m very proud of their achievements,as are they. This week has mainly been about Christmas. We had a fun Christmas Party and enjoyed DJ Wells entertaining us at the Disco. We have made calendars which you may have already seen and hopefully the children have remembered what trees are in the foreground. In RME we made origami paper stars with Mrs.Begarnie and in Music we had fun singing Christmas songs and passing Santa around the ring. We created a funny Elf Fact file and have done other Christmassy worksheets. So all that remains is to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and our very Best Wishes for 2020. May it be Happy and Healthy.
Love from P4B and Mrs.Burton

Festive Fun

We have been getting into the Christmas spirit in P2A and we can’t believe Santa comes next week!

We had our Christmas party on Monday where we had lots of fun with the P1’s and P2’s. We played lots of party games like musical statues. The teachers found it really tricky to spot who was moving, we were all so still. We looked very smart in our party clothes, even Miss Muir wore her special reindeer antlers. We even had a surprise visit from Santa at the end who gave us a class present. He was making sure that we were all on the nice list first before he gave us it!

As a class we have been doing some Christmas themed French. We played Camembear’s bauble challenge on his Christmas tree. We had to say the colour of the bauble that was shown to us on the board then find it on the tree. The bauble then had a number on it which we had to say in French to guess another bauble on the tree. We had lots of fun practising our French colours and numbers playing this game. We also learnt some new Christmas words in French. We learned words like Christmas tree and presents. We played a fun presents game to help us with this learning.

We had a special visit from P3 this week. They had created their own games with magnets as they have been learning about magnets. We worked in pairs and the P3’s told us how to play their game. There were so many to choose from such as catch the fish. We were great at taking turns playing the games and being kind towards one another. Hopefully P3 can come back again one day with more games to play!

In Literacy we have been revising some of our blends. We have been able to create mind maps of words that have the blends and been finishing off sentences using them. Some of us were able to make them Christmas themed! In Numeracy and Mathematics we have been solving number problems and recalling our number facts to 20/100. We are looking forward to starting subtraction in the New Year.

We hope you all have a fun filled Christmas and a Happy New Year when it comes. See you in 2020!

P2A and Miss Muir 🙂

Christmas Fun in P1a

Well we have certainly had a lot of fun in P1a this week. Mrs Gordon made sure we worked hard before the fun as we had to do some reading, writing and numeracy assessments on our initial sounds from a-z, our common words and addition to 10.

We learnt our doubles this week in numeracy and we really like this song to help us remember them.

On Monday we had our Christmas Party with lots of fun games. Santa even came and brought us some lovely Christmas stories for the classroom.

Today we got a letter from Santa saying that his sleigh had broken and he needed our help to design a new one. We worked in teams with our P7 buddies to design a sleigh. We then presented our finished drawings and design ideas to the class. Mrs Gordon was so impressed at how confidently we spoke, and with our fantastic ideas…we had everything from hot chocolate machines, portals and magic dust to bouncy castles! Here are the designers.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all! Love from Mrs Gordon and P1a. x
