Sophie and Joseph’s Hard Work!

Here is a blog post written by Sophie White in P5A…

Eczema Outreach Scotland

Joseph and I have been working really hard last term to raise money for Eczema Outreach Scotland. We wanted to do it because a lot of people experience eczema. We decided that I would make a hamper and Joseph would hop the width of the pitch and every child in our school would get a chance to guess how many hops Joseph did. We even had a stall at Parent’s night and lots of people had a guess then. We raised £100.40!!!

Marshall from Primary 7 won the hamper- well done, Marshall! Marshall guessed 60, which was the closest to 61.

Mrs McCartney was very proud of us both!

P6B’s Week by Abby and Amy

img_1410-1 img_1414 img_1427img_1452
We have had a busy week! This week we have been learning…

  • Speech marks in grammar, we learned that we take a new paragraph when a new character speaks. ” “
  • In French we were learning how to say Ma Famille, eg. My grandparents – Mes grand-parents, My aunt – Ma tante, My uncle – Mon oncle.
  • We learnt about the water cycle, we did a diagram and we learnt what evaporation, condensation and precipitation means.
  • In maths we have been doing l-lowest c-common m-multiples and our times tables. To remember them we played a multiple madness game, eg one person rolls two dice and adds the numbers together. Next you get 20 counters each and a board with numbers 1-100. When you add the two dice together numbers 1-100. When you add the two dice together you should get a number between 2-12 and that tells you your table. Once you have got your tables you are ready to start playing. We loved this game 🙂
  • On Thursday we went to the Peel down at the loch with two rangers to learn about animals living in the loch. We played two games called the stickleback game and the food chain game. After that we got into pairs and went bird watching, we saw mainly seagulls on the loch but there were other birds as well.
  • In science with Mrs Tulloch we were learning about renewable and non-renewable fuels.

P7 Weekly Learning

brazil-1 brazil-2 brazil-3 brazil-4This week we have been very focused on Brazil. We have included it in PE, literacy, music and modern languages.

Both classes learnt some basic Portuguese, it was amazing to see the children make links with other languages they know and guess words when completing their jigsaw puzzles.

In PE we looked at samba dancing and a Rio 2 dance. The children enjoyed taking part and pretending to be Amazon creatures through dance moves.

On Friday we shared our knowledge of French with our P1 buddies by doing some singing and simple role play. It was lovely to see them interact and for our P7’s to show off what they know.

P6B Fireworks Assembly

P6B presented an entertaining and informative assembly today about fireworks and firework safety. It was a joy to see a ‘real’ bonfire displayed in the hall and the children singing and dancing as they gave the ‘fireworks safety’  message. Well done to everyone involved including Miss Prince for her musical skills! Have a wonderful Bonfire night when it comes folks and please remember the safety lessons from today.

Happy weekend!

Parental Engagement-‘Sharing the Learning.’

You may have noticed that your child’s class teacher has sent home information regarding the planned learning for this term. I hope that you like this addition to the many different ways that we already try to involve you in your child’s education. If there is an aspect of learning that you would like to help with or have skills in, then please let us know. We would love to have any willing ‘experts’ coming into school and talking to classes of children!

As a direct result of Parental Feedback, I am delighted to announce that from this term onwards, all class teachers will use Dojo as a way to communicate backwards and forwards with you. Your child’s class teacher will have made you aware of when they are available to receive emails from you via Dojo. This means that Dojo will now be used by staff across the whole school.

I hope that you appreciate our latest moves to communicate with you and to involve you in your child’s learning.

Please feel free to email any feedback or comments to me. We strive to listen to your views and act on what you are telling us.

Kind wishes,

Miss Baillie

Halloween Disco- A Huge Thank You!

Thank you so much to all of the members of the PTA who worked so hard to organise last night’s Halloween Disco at the Burgh Halls. The children had great fun dancing , showing off their costumes , waving their glow sticks and eating sweeties from their ‘goody bags.’

Your efforts are all much appreciated!

Kind wishes,

Miss Baillie’s Assembly About ‘Changes.’

Yesterday, all of the boys and girls from P1-P7 joined Miss Baillie in the hall to take part in an assembly about ‘changes.’ Miss Baillie started the assembly by talking about current changes in nature as we enter the season of Autumn. We then thought about changes in our own lives such as moving house or school or the birth of a new baby into our family. We spoke about the death of a pet or loved one also bringing change into our lives. Some children got to come out to the front of the audience and sit in the ‘speaker’s chair’ where they shared their own experiences of change. We then talked about some of the changes that have been talking place in Springfield of late, such as staff leaving and joining the school. Miss Baillie assured us that although change can bring lots of different emotions there will always be something positive to take from the experience. Thank you to some the P6 and P7 boys who helped Miss Baillie with the assembly. Happy October break!

Special Person Afternoon

Last Tuesday afternoon saw a host of ‘special people’ descend on Springfield. Nominated as ‘special’ individuals to our children, these folks spent an afternoon in School where they ‘shared in the learning’ and took part in a range of different activities. Thank you so much to everyone who came along! We do hope that you enjoyed spending time with the children and found our school welcoming. Here are some photos from the afternoon for you all to enjoy…

Have a wonderful October break everyone! See you back in School on Tuesday 25th of October 2016!

Kind wishes,

Miss Baillie x

Science with Mrs Tulloch

Primary 5 have been learning all about our solar system. They have been demonstrating how the moon and earth rotate about the sun and showing the phases of the moon with Oreos. It was a very popular lesson this week.

P6 are currently finding out about renewable and non renewable energy. There has been lots of great discussions going on. It has been very topical with fracking in the news. We hope to get our water turbine, solar panels and wind turbine working to power bulbs, motors, etc.

P7 are looking a the huge topic of classification. They have investigated the the 5 kingdoms. P7A have been classifying flowering and non flowering plants within our school ground and P7B having been researching different species of the animal kingdom. They are now about to classify vertebrates and invertebrates.
