Sports Dress Down Day

A HUGE well done and thank you to all of our children and wonderful staff who took part in our Sport Dress Down Day yesterday. We saw many different sport stars, from footballers to gymnasts, rugby players to cyclists. Thanks to everyone’s efforts and generous donations we managed to raise a grand total of £264.70! This money will all go towards brand new sports equipment to enhance both the delivery of P.E and our after school programme activities.

Well done to P7b for confidently delivering their class assembly on Health and Wellbeing at Springfield. It was great to hear about all of the exciting things we can look forward to throughout the year. Improving our children’s health and wellbeing is a key priority this session as we look to promote successful learning through developing social, emotional, emotional and physical wellbeing. Our school is a nurturing and caring learning environment where we promote confidence and positive relationships through kindness and mutual respect. We want all of our pupils to have knowledge that will allow them to make healthy lifestyle choices now and in the future.

It was great to see both P7 classes encouraging their buddies to exercise and get active with some Zumba after P7b’s assembly. They enjoyed taking part in some guided dance to improve their coordination, gross motor skills and body awareness. Other classes across school participated in Joe Wick’s (The Body Coach) Schools Fitness Week by tuning in for a live workout each day.

Phew! Think we all need our long weekend now. Have a safe and restful one and we’ll see you all next Wednesday.

Mr. Logan

P5a and P5b

This week, we did the SCOOT challenge, where we needed to find fraction cards and answer the questions individually. For our chilli challenge, we looked at shaded fractions and  fraction number lines.

We brought in storyboxes on Monday and we retold our stories to a partner. On Thursday, P5a joined with the Nursery to tell them their stories. On Tuesday the 26th of September, P5b, are going to join the Nursery then, to do their retelling. We had a range of stories from Harry Potter to The Paper Dolls, with people being very creative, imaginative and inventive.

On Wednesday, we took part in Roald Dahl Day and we made dream jars after getting inspiration from the BFG. We watched a live feed about Roald Dahl and the illustrator of his books, Quentin Blake. Also, an inventor, called Colin Furze, who showed us a flame throwing guitar to represent one of the dangerous monsters in Billy and The Minpins. We tried to find a Phizzwizard but we haven’t caught it yet………..

Please remember that the children are on holiday on Monday and Tuesday 🙂

P5- working together :)

Welcome to the P5 blog, we are working together to share our learning and support each other in a positive, growth mindset manner.

This week we started by researching Space. We worked in pairs to take notes and next week we will be making leaflets about all the different things we discovered.

In French we learned how to ask and answer the question “Ou Habites-tu?” as well as doing Five a Day French.

With Mrs Tulloch we went outside to measure the distance from the sun to the different planets. This was tricky, however we perservered and worked together to complete the task- Go P5!

On Thursday we spent most of the day recreating a day in the life of a refugee. This was harder than we thought, the shelters were very tricky to make and not all of us managed to get inside one. We did have a great time though and it showed us how difficult it is when you have to leave your home. This is very relevant at the moment as we know that there are lots of people whose homes have been destroyed or damaged by Hurricane Irma.

Mrs Newton also set us a challenge to find out how hurricanes start, we did really well at this and we are hoping that Irma and Jose do not cause too much damage.

Next week we are going to revise our knowledge of fractions- we will be playing Scoot and Find the Fraction, spell tricky space words and make Dream Jars (Please remember we all need Jars for this) and take part in a live Roald Dahl Day.

Photo will be on Dojo over the weekend.

Have a great weekend.

P5 🙂

Quidditch Fun…

Hello!

We hope that you all had a wonderful time at the Gala Day on Saturday. A MASSIVE well done to Springfield for winning 1st place for our float. A huge thank you to ALL who came along and supported our school!

What a fantastic day we had on Monday for our Quidditch tournament! The sun shone the entire day and all of us had lots of fun displaying the skills that we have attained in the last few weeks! We were absolutely delighted that we all received Quidditch certificates presented by Kieran.

We would all like to take this opportunity to thank Kieran for giving up his own time to teach us, not only Quidditch, but skills for life that we will use in the future.

We researched the artist Vincent Van Gogh this week. We had to consider why the artist chose sunflowers and what mood the sunflowers gave the painting, justifying our answers. We had to think of adjectives and images to describe the sunflowers, Mrs McCartney was so impressed with our contributions.

We investigated and analysed fidget spinners before designing, making and evaluating our own spinner. The spinner had to be for children aged between 7 and 11. We had to stick to the design criteria and researched different types of fidget spinners to aid our designs. It was very important that we kept in mind the audience it was intended for and accurately used a wide range of equipment to make our spinners in pairs. We realised the importance of maintaining a growth mindset and making improvements was the key to success as we worked through the project. Next week we are going to give opinions on our own work and on the work completed by our peers when we present our fidget spinners.

Well done to the choir who sang ‘Titanium’ beautifully during our P7 Leavers Assembly. We don’t think there will be a dry eye in the house when the P7 children present their assembly to their parents.

Well done to Joseph Burgess who won the completion to guess how many straws were in the box for Cancer Research! He was soooooo surprised and delighted!!

A huge well done also to Sophie, Sahasra and our two Joseph’s along with Samuel who got through to the final of Springfield’s Got Talent which will take place on Tuesday, it was so hard to pick two acts to go through to the final as ALL the auditions were absolutely fantastic .

We were reflecting on P5 this week, creating our own unique hand designs and we wrote about what we enjoyed about P5, what we will miss and the funniest moments!!

We shared laughter, a few tears and wonderful moments!

In Maths we calculated time durations in word problems, this provoked lots of discussion when we realised that the calculation for the first problem led to the next problem. We maintained a growth mindset throughout.

Mrs McCartney is delighted with our Personal Projects, well done to all for our hard work and many thanks to our parents for all your support! Mrs McCartney can’t wait to read them all at the weekend.

Things to remember for our last week in P5:

*Springfield’s Got Talent Show – Tuesday 27th June

*Sports Day – Wednesday 28th June

*P5A Class Talent Show – Friday 30th June (special guest is Callum Crocker!)

Have an amazing weekend!

P5A and Mrs McCartney

A race towards the finish!

Our week started off with some sunshine and the new and exciting Quidditch tournament. We were placed into our house teams, and fought for the winning cup. Putting our new found Quidditch skills to the test, we played numerous rounds competing against each other, until the final team won for the day. A big thank you to Mr Newton for coaching us over the last few weeks and for organising a spectacular day!

Joining P5A on Tuesday, we all joined in a bit of Zumba.. Amazing how much of a sweat we worked up just with a little bit of dancing. Taking part in Zumba we are extending  our skills of following directions and working on co-ordination, which is much trickier than you may think.

Over the last few weeks we have been very busy planning a holiday for a family wanting to visit Linlithgow. We needed to research flights, hotels and calculate a budget for the family. A lot of effort went into researching to meet all the requirements of our travelling family. This week we presented our travel arrangements to the class. Mrs Matos was very proud of all our hard work!

On Thursday some of us auditioned for Springfield’s got talent. We have some very talented children in P5B, the acts ranged from singing, to dancing and some gymnastics too, all the acts did really well. Unfortunately we could only select two acts to go through to the finals, which will be held next week Tuesday. The class voted and Anna and Dayna , theywill be representing P5B on Tuesday.

Over the week, we completed our personal projects. We have all worked really hard on our projects, we have been using the netbooks to do research and to help us compile our projects. We also spent some time on Thursday and used the netbooks to play some Sumdog. It is a lot of fun, and remember we can play it at home too, especially over the summer holidays which will help us keep on top of our Maths.

It’s almost summer holidays, which means we are getting nearer the end of Primary 5. We spent this week reflecting on the year that has gone by. To help us reflect we created these stunning hand portraits, we used colour and patterns to help show our personalities. Around our hands we shared our memories of Primary 5. Looking back we all have some very fond memories

An active week in P5B

Its has truly been a week of sports and fitness. This week finished our eight week block of Futsal. We finished with a mini Futsal tournament. It was great to see everyone using the skills they have learnt in their matches.  We were fortunate this week to have PE specialist, Mr Stewart , to take us for a gymnastics PE lesson, our lesson focused on keeping safe and challenging ourselves. It was lots of fun getting the gymnastics equipment out, a big thank you to Mr Stewart, P5B had a lot of fun.  On Wednesday was our final Quidditch training before our big Quidditch tournament on Monday. We looking forward to using the skills we have learnt with Mr Newton, and having good sportsmanship during our games.  Another thank you goes to Mr Logon for taking us for PE on Thursday, we enjoyed playing some football.

French this week was taken with Mrs Gordon, we listened to some French songs and revised counting in French. To end our lesson, Mrs Gordon took us outside to play the French version of ‘Duck, Duck goose’. We behaved so well for Mrs Gordon, and Mrs Matos was very impressed with the positive feedback, as a reward we got to watch Thomas the tank Engine in French!

In Numeracy this week we worked on weight. We learnt to convert grams to kilograms, we estimated weight and we sorted weight from lightest to heaviest and heaviest to lightest.

In literacy this week , we wrote a special letter to our new P6 teacher. Our focus was on the correct layout of a formal letter. We discussed the importance of using a variety of sentence openers and to try not over using pronouns as an opener. We spent some time with our new P6 teacher, and we are all looking forward to the new session after the summer holidays.

Next week Monday we have our Quidditch tournament to look forward to as well as sports day on  Wednesday, please remember to  wear sports gear and house colours.

P5 PAL excitement!!

Hello!

We hope that you all had a fantastic time at the Marches on Tuesday! We had a lot of fun watching the procession with the rest of our class on You Tube on Wednesday. It was great that it stayed dry!

We had our final Futsal on Wednesday and it was matches. We were divided into 6 teams and we all had a chance to play each other. The red team won and some of us want to continue to play futsal next session.

We were so lucky to have a Better Movers and Thinkers session on Monday, it was a fantastic session!

We would like to thank Mr Stewart for coming to teach us!

We are looking forward to the Quidditch tournament on Monday! We are playing in our house teams but our house names have been changed to Harry Potter names!

We would like to take the opportunity to thank Kieran, our coach, who has given up his own time to come to Springfield and teach us a new sport, it has been an incredible experience and we are all super excited about Monday!

We were BEYOND excited to meet our P2 PALS this week, it was amazing to be appointed a leadership role for P6!

Mrs Gordon taught us French on Thursday which was a lot of fun. We watched ‘High 5’ and we sang French songs. We also watched Thomas the Tank Engine in French with the other P5 class and we were so amazed at how much we could understand of the storyline!

In Maths we have been looking at time, telling the exact time in minutes and hours. We recognise the importance of learning time and how we can use this life skill in future. We looked at time duration and managed to calculate some really tricky challenge questions.

Many thanks to all who came along last night to meet Mr Wells, he was delighted so many came.

It was very exciting to meet our new teacher, Mrs Matos, this week. We all wrote her a letter introducing ourselves and sharing what makes us unique.

We are all looking forward to the Gala Day tomorrow, we all hope that you all have a wonderful day.

We can’t wait to see the Springfield float, go team Springfield!

We hope that you all have a lovely day on Sunday and that that dads/special person enjoy Father’s Day!

Happy weekend!

Mrs McCartney and P5A x
