Our awesome week in P3

This week in numeracy we began looking at subtraction. We challenged ourselves by trying to solve some number puzzles requiring us to use our problem solving skills!

We  also made the most of the sunshine this week and enjoyed reading our class novel ‘Demon Dentist’  under the tree in the shade.  We have been enjoying working with Kieran to learn how to play muggle Quidditch. This week we got to practice playing with the broomsticks, it was fun but tricky to master!

In literacy we have been looking at speech marks and how they are used. We enjoyed going outside to find materials to replicate speech marks and placed them on our texts to indicate where they would appear.

We further explored persuasive writing and created our own mock letters to send to the council to persuade them to  build a leisure attraction of our choice in Linlithgow.  We suggested lots of interesting attractions to bring to Linlithgow including Disneyland, Build a Bear and Legoland.

For our topic we created a design for our robots which we are going to make out of recyclable materials next week. We are really looking forward to building our robots and sharing them with you.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and enjoy the sun.

P2/3 Outdoor Learning

It has been a short, but busy week in P2/3.

In maths, we used surveys to find out information about our classmates. We learned how tally marks can be used to record information. We began to look at how information can be presented in a bar chart.

Last week, we looked at how a three digit number has a hundreds column, tens column and units column. We went outdoors to make numbers, by throwing beanbags into three hoops (representing the hundreds, tens and units).

In literacy, we went outdoors to the outdoor classroom and continued our work on speech marks. We had to add speech marks to an extract of a text, using outdoor objects to represent the speech mark.

On Wednesday, we met the Rangers at the Peel to consolidate our work on seeds, berries and blossom. We learned a seed needs water, sunshine, soil and air to grow.

We discussed the different ways a seed can travel. Then, we collected seeds and blossom on a sticky leaf.

We managed to spot a ladybird!

Our short but fun week in P3!

It’s been a short week this week but we have still had lots of fun! We started our new topic this week, ‘Making our community greener’. We learnt about how to ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’ as well as the different symbols on packaging which tell us if something is recyclable or not. We also got to go outside and sort out our rubbish into different categories, as well as tidy our school grounds through carrying out litter picking; here are some pictures of what we did!

Have a lovely weekend from P3 🙂

Pony Champions!

Well done to Honor and Niamh in P7B and  Rebecca in P3 for their recent success in riding! The girls came to show me all of their rosettes last week and I was delighted to see their achievements!

P2/3’s activities.

Fantastic P.E. lesson outside. The children are using a variety of PE skills and had opportunities to invent their own games.

The children designed their own Easter Egg then worked in pairs. Each pairing had to remember their partner’s design, then, taking it in turns, they went off and hid it along with a surprise.

Some people made it really tricky!

Look at the wonderful Easter Bonnets!

A cracking week in P3

We have had a fun filled week this week in P3, practicing for our Easter parade and our church service; thank you very much for all your help with the Easter bonnets – they were brilliant!

This week we have also rounded off our topic of childhood through the ages. We were put into different groups to have a go at summarising what we have learnt about New Lanark, the Victorians, 60’s and 70’s – 90’s. In addition, we also did some time travelling into the future, where we got the chance to design our very own toys which we think might be around in a few years time!

In maths this week we have been continuing with our division, here are some pictures of our work in action!

On Thursday we did lots of arts and crafts in preparation for Easter. We practised some printing to make our own Easter eggs for our Easter cards, and we made some bunny pictures too. We also decorated and built our own Easter baskets which got filled with some Easter treats – yay!

We wish you all a happy Easter and a wonderful Easter holiday.

Reading Buddies

We have a number of children across school who act as ‘reading buddies’ to each other. Here is Sean in P3 who loves to read each week to Bailey in P1B. I caught the boys sitting quietly reading as I passed by this week and it warmed my heart. Hoping that it warms your heart too!

Have a lovely weekend in the Spring sunshine everyone,

Miss Baillie xx

P2/3

A hair-raising effort was made for Comic Relief!

In Maths, they have been learning about halves and quarters of shapes and numbers.

The children have been making toys from the Victorian times- a jack in the box, a spinner, a jigsaw and a thaumatrope.
