P4 Class

Its been a wonderful week filled with excitement!

In Literacy

We learnt to expand sentences in order to add information.

We read a poem and discussed what it meant.

This week, some children presented their PowerPoint about Ancient Egypt to the class.  Some also demonstrated their acting skills by presenting a play about Ancient Egypt.

We began reading our class novel.  We had to solve riddles and clues from this text.

Numeracy

We revised on our 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 times tables.  We played buzz too.

We also learnt to multiply 2  digit numbers by 10/ 100.

IDL

Together, we brainstormed on what we wanted to know about the Union Canal.  We also explored different types of of canal systems in Scotland.  So watch this space!

 

RME

We learnt about the different religion around the world.

French

We have been speaking French as we order our lunches.  We have been revising on saying the months of the year and numbers to 20 in French as well.

 

 

P4 this week

  • We were making PowerPoint presentation to show our knowledge of Ancient Egypt. CC
  • We learnt to write instruction on how to mummify a corpse. MC
  • We went to a fencing festival. It was really fun! ED

  • We revised on compass points and followed directions to find the position of a place in the map. EM
  • Someone from Linlithgow Academy came to teach us how to order food in French. KP
  • We used our listening skills to take notes on the process of mummification.

Primary 4

The class has been buzzing all week as we immersed the in our ancient Egyptian studies.  F created a 3D representation what she learnt about  the topic. D had created a life sized Sarcophagus and A shared a stop motion video of the first Egyptians.

We explored the history of Hieroglyphics and we wrote our names using this writing system .

It has been a busy week. We have been creating props for our assembly.  We applied their knowledge of symmetry and proportion in order to create symmetrical picture of Tutankhamun.

Literacy

We revised our previous written task.  We used uplevelled words.  We further enhanced or knowledge on how to use adverbs and we practiced spelling words with “tch” sound..

 

Numeracy

We applied different subtraction strategies to answer word problems.  We used our RUCSAC strategy as well to help us solve them.

Expressive art

We have been practicing for our assembly.  We used out drama and performing skills.

 

P4 class

Numeracy

This week we used column method of subtraction.  We learnt budgeting and we worked out change from £5 and £10-   by LKS.

DL created budgeting game for all the P4s which they enjoyed.

 

IDL

We learnt more about Ancient Egyptian life.  We compared the lives of rich and poor.  We talked about the different rulers and what they are remembered for.

 

Expressive art

We applied our knowledge of symmetry by creating an portrait of Tutankhamun.

 

Literacy

We wrote a letter of complaint.  We had to use examples to make our letter convincing.   We had to use powerful adjectives too- LL

We up levelled our writing too –SCD

 

I learned about irregular past tense of the verb- IKB

 

 

 

 

 

P4 week

We have been learning how to  write a persuasive piece of writing.   We wrote a letter of complaint to a “Travel company” that we used for a week long  Ancient Egyptian tour.

We have been learning to identify verb, adverbs, nouns and adjectives in a sentence.

For French, we have been identifying parts of the body.

Numeracy

We revised on our multiplication table.  We also been learning about the inverse relationship of division and multiplication.

We have been learning to add the total of our purchases in our “money” exploration.  We also worked out change from £1, £5 and £10.

For IDL

We explored the importance of river Nile during the Ancient Egyptian times.

 

P4 Class

Literacy

We learned how to use speech marks. MC

For Guided reading we focused on making inferences. We also revisited the types of story genre and the different kinds of story ending.

ICT/ Literacy

We were researching and taking notes about Ancient Egypt. RG

Maths/ Numeracy

We have been learning how to find objects in a map (Grid references).  We were also plotting our coordinates.

We learnt to find the direction using compass points.  We now know what it means to turn 90, 180  and 360 degree using the compass.

 

We also presented our personal projects to the class.

In Music, we were practising reading notes in a song.

PE

We were learning different types of jumps.  My favorite is the Tuck Jump (EM and MC).

Mine was the half turn (RG).

P4

Literacy

We learnt to write a script for our presentation. ED

We did handwriting with Mr. Wells. LL

We learnt different strategies for reading comprehension. EM

 

Numeracy/ Maths

I made a PowerPoint presentation about how to read time (to/past the hour and am/pm). EM

We did time duration. MC

We learnt how to read and understand a timetable. SCD

We did (word) problem solving with time durations. FD

 

IDL

I learned facts about John Logie Baird using the netbooks. CC

Music

We learned about rhythm and pulse.  HM

We also learnt a new song about Haggis. FD

P4

  • This week we started learning about John Logie Baird. My lightbulb moment this week is learning to do division with my 4 times table.  KP
  • I now know where to put an apostrophe when the noun ends with an “s”. MS
  • I learnt to tell the time using the analogue clock. NJ
  • I didn’t know that you can use the 5 times table to tell the minutes.SM
  • I now understand how to tell the time to/ past the hour. EM
  • We learnt about John Logie Baird and how the first TV was invented. AM
  • I learnt how John Logie Baird’s TV worked. CC

 

P4 class

Numeracy

ED- We learnt to work out answers for word problems using addition and subtraction strategies.

RP- We learnt a little bit about reading time.

MS and RP-  We did basic algebra.

IDL

EM- We did a model of a scene from the “Demon Headmaster” book.

HM- We wrote information about the scene.

Literacy

We learnt ow to use a dictionary and find words in it.

We gave our opinion about an author’s use of language.

HWB

For PE, we did Ceilidh dancing with Mrs. Reid.  –SCD

P4

Literacy

We learnt to identify and use adverbs in a sentence.

We learnt to write an informal letter.   We addressed them to Santa.

Numeracy

We were actively solving word problems.  This required two different steps to get the answer.  One is addition and the other is subtraction.

We played multiplication games online.

We also did division -RP

 

Christmas Fayre

SCD- I think it was really fun making the snow globes.

LKS-  It was unexplainable.  It was the best!
