P7b

This week we started our Spanish lessons.  We learnt to say simple greetings and questions.

For French, Mrs Gordon and our class consolidated all the learning we have done last term.  We created pictures which reflect colour and number of animals.  We had to read a whole phrase in French and draw what it meant.

For Numeracy, we have been strengthening our skills in number talks.  We identified number pattern and sequence. We revised on all our 4 maths operations and discussed/ worked on  several word problems involving all operations.

 

For literacy, we explored the use of subjunctives.  We began our short read activities which we will be doing 4 times each week. We further extended our comprehension skills as we answered literal and inferential questions from  the poem entitled ” The Song of Hiawatha”.

For Health and Well-being, we learnt about gender bias.  We created a short skit and presented to the class what gender bias may look like in everyday life.

Next week, we be focusing on story writing just in time for Halloween 🙂

We’ve had another productive week in P7.

We consolidated all our learning in maths and numeracy by planning a Party for Zelda (fictional character).  We used our budgeting skills as well as our knowledge of area and perimeter.

We decided to enter the competition for essay writing being run by the Rotary Club of Linlithgow Grange.  We individually wrote what the word ‘connections’ mean to us

We created PowerPoint Presentations about our Brazil topic and we found information about the climatic conditions differences/ similarities  between Brazil and Scotland.

P7B

We at P7b, have been learning to compare and contrast  life of a child in Brazil our my own. We learnt about the siblings Samir and Samira.  We then revised our understanding on informal letter writing by pretending to send the letters to Samir and Samira.

For Numeracy, we have been learning to calculate discounts , we revised on decimal place value and practised our number talks everyday.

For Expressive Art, we have learnt different types of shading techniques, tonal shading and highlighting.  We are nearly done with our Caricature, so next week we will be posting pictures of them.

For big writing next week, we will be uplevelling our persuasive text.

Our class have worked extremely hard this week, even though it was a short one.

For Numeracy, we learnt how to calculate  percentages from an amount. We also exercised our number talk skills as we demonstrated various ways of multiplying/diving numbers.

For Literacy, we wrote a fact file about Brazil.  We  summarised events in our novels during guided reading.  We also learnt to use question tags (in Grammar).

Expressive Art- we practiced drawing caricatures this week.  Next week, we will use this type of drawing to create a portrait of someone in our class.  We will then incorporate Romero Britto’s style in our masterpiece.

This week our P7b class demonstrated confidence in tackling learning experiences offered to us.

For Numeracy and Maths, we learnt to calculate the area of right angle triangles and composite shapes.  Then we revised on our multiplication and division strategies.  We also practiced finding and simplifying equivalent fractions.

For Literacy, we read a poem.  We used our inference skills in order to comprehend what the read.  We researched the importance  of the Amazon rainforest to the rest of the world.  Using our netbooks, we  searched for the causes and effects of deforestation.  Then we wrote our persuasive essay on Brazil’s deforestation problem. 

For Modern Languages, we counted from 1 to 20.  We played a game of bingo using French words too.

For HWB, we looked at how drug misuse and we learned how they affect the human body.

On 3rd of September we went to see the new rugby squad being announced. We also got to play a couple of games of rugby ourselves which was very fun and everyone enjoyed it.

IDL

On the 4th of September we started our topic on Brazil. We also practiced our note taking skills to use when we make a new writing piece.

 

MATHS

We learned how to do written method of multiplication. Some of us did two digit by two digit and the rest of us did three by three digit.

 

LITERACY

We learnt to use the Thesaurus this week and use our listening skills to take effective notes about Brazil.

P7B’s First week back

Hi everyone, this week has been a great first week in P7B!

On Monday we did our spelling test to see what level we’re at in our spelling. We also did our leadership talks explaining what role we wanted. We made our envelopes for the time capsule and measured our feet size, hand size and height! (by NG and SP)

On Tuesday we did Daily Rigour.  This gave us quite a challenge.

This week we learned about the work of Romero Britto.  A Brazillian Pop artist.  We had a go at recreating his work in class.

We created our ” Kindness Wall” this week. The purpose of which is to send out positive and encouraging notes to our peers. To boost self esteem, we talked about how we see ourselves and how others see us.  Some of us were surprised to know that there are personal attributes  which we neglect to appreciate.  Our friends help us appreciate these through their messages.

P4 class

This week we have been learning to write Limericks.  Here some of our work;

There once was a boy from  Welly,

who said “I wish I wasn’t smelly.

 He didn’t like his cat,

so he replaced with a hat,

And said ” I love jelly”. EM

 

There once was a Minecraft dog, 

who always slept like a log.

he also had a pet fig ,

who always wore a wig.

but said “I wish I had a pet hog”.HM

We also learnt to use pronouns effectively.

In Numeracy, we have been learning to divide 2/3  digit numbers with a single digit.  Some of us created board games to practise our multiplication and division skills.

HWB- We discussed what it means to be Unique.  We learnt about diversity and discrimination.

We celebrated our differences and similarities and spoke about how each of us have valuable skills to offer.

We explored how medicine can be beneficial as well as dangerous in certain situations.

We learnt to say the weather in French.
