Primary 6B

This week we have explored Wonder in more depth and looked at how Auggie feels when he hears others talking about him. This has provoked a thoughtful and meaningful discussion about how we treat others. This will link into our Assembly next week, where we will explore bullying in more depth.

We have also finished our work on 3D shapes, creating and labelling our own skeleton 3D shapes.

Primary 6b

This week, we have continued to explore 3D shape, sorting and identifying their properties.

We also had a trip down to the Loch to create environmental art with the Historic Scotland Rangers. Take a look at the artwork we created.

Primary 6B

A busy week in Primary 6B.

We have continued to explore shape, looking this week at 3D shapes and their properties. We have discussed the language used by mathematicians and found the names for some unusual 3D shapes.

In literacy, we have looked at Diary writing, using one of the characters from our class novel ‘Wonder’, as the author of the diary.

Primary 6b

A busy week. The photos show us outdoors for PE.

We also took the learning outdoors in maths this week, when we created 2D shapes using  a variety of materials. We then identified the shapes and their properties.

In RME, we have explored the main religions and how they have a common theme running through them, known as ‘The Golden Rule’. We have discussed how this relates to school and our lives and the way we treat others.

We have also participated in a National Sumdog Competition this week, competing against other pupils from all over the UK. Watch this space to see how we did.

Happy Holidays

Primary 6b

Primary 6b

This week has been Maths Week.

Our focus for this has been place value and rounding numbers.

We have been outside in the playground creating and sequencing numbers.

We have also worked in small groups in class to explore rounding and the language associated with this.

Primary 6B – This week’s learning

In maths this week we have been looking at place value and working with huge numbers. We created some 7 digit numbers using human number-lines.

We have also completed our 3D hands, which show the people we can talk to if we have a worry or a concern.

We began work on a poem, which tells others about the ‘Best Part of Me’.

Primary 6 Visit to the Book Festival

Primary 6 had a ‘monstrous’ visit to Edinburgh Book Festival on Thursday.

They met with Dave Rudden (author of Knights of the Borrowed Dark) and Rupert Wallis (author of The Boy with One Name).

Dave and Rupert shared their books with us and then discussed how they created monsters for their stories.

As an audience, we helped to create monsters, which Dave sketched for us.

They also answered questions about their jobs and books.

We will use this as a stimulus for our storywriting next week

.

Visitors to Primary 6!!

This afternoon, Mrs Kerr’s daughter and her friend came into school and told us all about their upcoming trip to Cambodia, where they are going to teach children English. They told us why they’ve volunteered to go and a bit about the school and children they will be working with. We are hoping to connect with them while they are there.
