P2/3 are having a hoot!

This week in P2/3 we have been learning how to organise data into a venn diagram. We worked in teams to show the similarities and differences between Scotland and Maui.

We found out that some fruits such as tomatoes can grow here and in Maui. Pomegrante trees grow in Maui – we all tried some pomegranate seeds. Lots of us loved the taste!

In writing this week we listened to The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark. We each decided on a new character to make Plop feel better about the dark. We drew a storyboard and shared our stories with a partner. Next week we will be writing the sentences in our storyboards.

While it’s warm enough we are doing as much learning outside as we can. We enjoyed playing number bond bingo outside on the benches.

Here are some photos of our outdoor play this week:

This week’s star of the week is Rebecca. She has been my special helper this week and what a fantastic helper she was! Rebecca is always kind and helpful.

If you’re out and about on an autumnal walk this weekend, please could you collect dry leaves for our art lesson on Monday. We are making leaf collage owls to go with our owl stories. Here’s one I made earlier…

Happy leaf picking!

Fun in the sun in P2/3

We made the most of the sunshine on Wednesday and went outside for PE. We enjoyed trying to beat Miss Prince at a race!

In Writing we wrote postcards while on our imaginary holiday to Maui. We had a go at self assessing our writing using traffic lights. We all have a target to work towards in our next writing lesson.

In Maths we continued our work on shape, we can now confidently identify and name pentagons, hexagons and octagons.

We are really interested in the Pacific Ocean around Maui so today we made a tropical underwater corner. Our parent helper Mrs Biggar helped us to make the most sparkly, glittery tropical fish you have ever seen!

New reading books and homework will go home on Monday.

Have a wonderful weekend,

P2/3 are full of facts!

This week we did some whole class reading about the Pacific Islands and the Great Barrier Reef. We had a go at answering questions about the text in full sentences.

In Writing we looked at the features of a fact file and decided our Maui fact files needed to have:

  • A heading
  • Sub headings
  • Bullet Points
  • Images

We used information we gathered last week to write our fact files. Here are some of our finished Maui fact files:

Did you know… there is a volcano on Maui called Haleakala.

In IDL this week we compared the Scotland flag to the Maui flag. The Maui flag was very intricate so we decided to make the Hawaii flag instead. We noticed that the Hawaii flag has the Union Jack in the corner. We chose to use collage to make the flags, they look fab!

In Maths this week we have been identifying 2D shapes. We learned about pentagons, hexagons and octagons.

We collected twigs from the field and made 2D shape posters to remind ourselves of the properties of each of the shapes.

We are really enjoying sharing our Golden Time with Primary 3, we especially love arts and crafts! Here are some photos from today:

Star of the Week is Scott for his fantastic work on 2D shape. Well done, Scott!

No homework next week due to the shorter week.

Last bit of news… we won Class of the Week! Woo hoo!!

P2/3 and Marvellous Maui

This week Primary 2/3 have been learning about where in the world Maui is. We found out that it is a tiny island many thousands of miles away. It takes 14 hours on a plane to get there! We carried out research about Maui and made mind maps to present our findings. We learned about the animals that live in Maui – we thought the monk seal looked very cute!

In Maths this week we have been looking at 1, 2 and 10 more/less. We drew beautiful number gardens using our knowledge of more and less.

We had lots of fun at the phonic stations this week! We liked pasta words and sound fishing the best.

Daniel very kindly brought in plums from his garden for us to try. They were delicious!

In PE with Mrs Reid we are learning how to play benchball. We have been practising our ball skills with Miss Prince.

Sam the champion horse rider brought in his medal to show us. Well done, Sam!

Our Star of the Week was Ruth for working so hard across all of her learning. Super star!

Wee reminder that homework will start on Monday.

Have a great weekend,

Love P2/3 and Miss Prince x

P2/3 go wild!

What a super week we’ve had in Primary 2/3! All the children have settled in well and are enjoying their learning.

On Monday our P6 pals taught us how to switch the laptops on and off. We had great fun making our wild self. If you’d like to have a go at home this is the website:  http://www.buildyourwildself.com/

In Maths we have been working on number sequences, counting on and back to 100.

In Literacy this week we have been listening to Fantastic Mr Fox. We wrote character descriptions using WOW words.

In Art we learned how to draw our self portraits, we used mirrors to identify our features.

Our Star of the Week is Liam for his beautiful drawing. Well done Liam!

Have a lovely weekend,

Love Miss Prince and P2/3 x

Welcome to Primary 2/3

Hello and welcome to our first blog post of the term!

We have been very busy settling into our new classroom and getting to know Miss Prince.

We learned about our rights and responsibilities. We made a beautiful display to help us to remember to be kind, be sensible and to listen the first time.

In music we learned how to read music notes called crotchets and quavers. We enjoyed playing the chime bars.

Callum was our Star of the Week for a super first week in Primary 2/3. Well done, Callum!

Day 2 at Dounans

Beautiful weather today! Some of our activities have included a burn scramble, hiking to a waterfall and the night line – a very muddy experience!

P6 Camp Dounans Day 1

Despite the rain and the midges P6 are having a FANTASTIC first day at camp and  are doing Springfield proud. Activities have included crate climb, tree climb and orienteering. Here are a few photos from today:

The wifi is quite slow – it has taken about 45 minutes to upload these photos so we will share most of the photos when we get back to school.

We’re off for hot chocolates now 🙂

Night night,

Love P6 and staff x

P6B having fun in the sun

What a great start back we’ve had, enjoying lots of outdoor activities in the sunshine!

We went pond dipping in the loch and burn where we found leaches and water boatmen.

In Maths we have been using formulas to find the area and perimeter of shapes. We started looking at compound shapes too which was challenging but we tried hard and demonstrated a growth mindset.

In Literacy we have been looking at different styles of letter writing. Next week we are going to write letters for our P1 Buddies, we can’t wait to meet them!

Finally, our new favourite sport – Quidditch! We’ve had one session so far and we LOVE it!

Springfield Choir performance

Here’s a link to our performance of ‘When You Believe’, performed yesterday at the Easter Bonnet Parade. Enjoy 🙂
