We have had lots of fun in our learning this week. Please take a look at what we have been up to.
In Numeracy and Mathematics we have been practising counting in 10’s to 100. Some of us can even count this backwards! Miss Muir was very impressed. We have even been counting in hundreds, tens and units all the way to 1000. We enjoyed this so much that some of us challenged ourselves to count above 1000 and write this correctly on our whiteboards. During free play we noticed Miss Muir set us a challenge: how many different things can we count in the classroom? Miss Muir was amazed at how many different things we were able to count. We have had our first full week of Number Talks and are using the signals Miss Muir has shown us during our Maths lessons. We also learned about breaking numbers apart into tens and ones/hundreds, tens and units. This is called partitioning. We find it challenging to say but Miss Muir says practise makes perfect!
In Literacy we became reporters this week for the Springfield Herald. We were reporting on seagulls eating Mr Grinling’s lunch from the Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch book. We learned what was in a newspaper report and highlighted the key features on the board. This helped us to write our own reports. Miss Muir even dressed up using a bow tie and microphone when reading out her report! Some of us liked this so much we decided to dress up too when we read out our reports to the class.
On Monday somebody had left out plastic cups and pictures of lighthouses on one of the class tables. Lots of us had a look and were excited to start creating our own mini lighthouses. We used art materials like glue, paper and crayons to create them. Some of us cut parts of the cup out to make a door and some of us made a background scene to go with the lighthouse. We made so many that Miss Muir wasn’t sure where to put them all!
We also met our P6 Pals on Thursday afternoon where they helped us with our reading books and made pictures together.
As part of our IDL we learned about beach habitats. We learned what a habitat was and which plants/animals lived on the beach. We loved learning about all the animals/plants especially watching video clips of them. When we were drawing and writing about our animals Miss Muir put on wave music. It was very calming! We even thought about having a rock pool for our tuff tray next week. Miss Muir thought this would be a great idea. We can’t wait to see it on Monday.
We hope you have a lovely weekend!
