A spooktastic week in P2A

This week the children have been very excited about all things Halloween! They had a great afternoon at the Halloween disco, thank you to the PTA for organising.

In Phonics we have been learning words that end in ng and nk. All of the children did very well in dictation and they were all able to independently write a sentence using words with these sounds in. Here is a good game to practise reading ng and nk words at home:

In Maths this week we have been working on addition to 20. We can now add a single digit number to a teen number. We made a bus to help us to visualise what these sums would look like.

We know we can somersault addition sums. Starting with the bigger number helps us to solve sums quicker on a number line or in our head.  For example,

3+14 =

14+3 =

In Art we made our own Halloween monsters using chalks on black paper. It was a challenge not to smudge the chalk, especially for the left handed (Miss Prince struggled with this too!) They have turned out brilliantly, what a creative class we are.

We have finished making our hoglets, they are living in a tuff tray in our classroom. If you go out walking this weekend and find any good leaves for them to hibernate under then please send them in.

The children were very excited to find a real life hedgehog on the pitch on Thursday; they were very sensible and gave the hedgehog lots of room to scuttle away.

Next week…

We have a new boy starting in our class on Monday, he came to visit on Wednesday and we were all very kind and welcoming.

Next Wednesday is our Phonics/Spelling opening morning, hope to see you then.

Love P2A and Miss Prince x
