Our last week as P2/1

Good Morning P2/1,

I can’t believe we have reached the final week of our P2/1 journey. It’s been a great year with lots of fun moments even although latterly we faced a few challenges.

P2 – you have some last week fun activities to try on your grid week 11

P1 – Your activities will be a little different this week but will still be uploaded by the P1 teachers.

I am hoping to see as many of you collecting your end of year reports from school tomorrow (Tuesday 23rd June). Remember you have an allocated time to collect.

P2: 1.30-2.00pm

P1: 2.00-2.30pm

Enjoy your last week as a P2/1.

P1 Science and Technology

Hello P1 – Here are some fun activities for you to try today or on your last week as Primary 1.

Science – Investigating water

Resources
·         Ice cube tray (or a plastic cup/holder to freeze water in)

·         Pot/pan/kettle

·         Bath/sink/back garden

·         Jackets made of different materials

·         A cup

Questions to explore
·         What is happening to the water?

·         Why is it happening?

·         What word is the right word for what is happening to the water- is it melting/freezing or boiling?

·         Can you predict what jacket will be best for the job we want?

·         Can you tell me why you think that?

Information you might want to record
·         Put water into an ice cube tray- predict where they will freeze the best…why do you think that? Use the tray, once frozen, ask your child what they can use around the house to defrost each one quickly (maybe leave out some hair dryers/salt items that would work so that your child can easily choose/access) Take a photo of what you use for each cube and write down the time it takes beside it to melt.

·         Take an ice cube out the freezer, is it solid/liquid? Ask an adult to put it into a pot and add heat on the cooker- what is going to happen to it? Does it stay solid? If you keep heating the water, what happens? Can you see anything coming from the pot? What is happening now? Can you draw the process from ice cube-water-steam? Add in the words frozen, melt, boil next to process. (If you don’t want to boil the water in the pot- use a kettle and watch what comes out of the spout as it boils)

·         Create/record a weather report with a difference- you are going to choose the right jacket to wear in different weather- warm and sunny, windy, raining. You can report on what jacket to wear in this weather and why- maybe demonstrate with a small cup of water why you have chosen that jacket for the rain.

·         If you don’t want to make a video- use your camera/phone to take pictures of what happens when you pour a small cup of water onto different materials. Do this is in the sink/bath otherwise you may get other areas in the house soggy!

Technology – Creating animation

Download the app ‘Stop Motion’ and create your own cartoon using toys from your home. Try using lego, dolls house, teddy bears, play dough models etc. I had fun using this app and made the animals in our Sylvanian Family house move and also made our lego superheroes have a running race…. Batman won! I can’t wait to see what types of movies you will be able to create. Remember to share so your teachers and peers can see your wonderful creations.

Have fun.

P2/1

Good Morning.

I can’t believe this is our second last week in P2/1. I am so proud of you all working hard in these unusual conditions.

I would like you to do two jobs for me this week. I know some of the P1’s have already done this. Please draw and share a picture of your favourite memory in P2/1. My favourite memory in P2/1 was the week of our class assembly and Rookie Rockstars. I couldn’t believe how much energy you all had that week and I could definitely see 21 confident individuals.

P1 – continue to see daily posts from P1 teachers.

P2 – here is your weekly grid. week 10

Have a great week everyone.

Mrs Davies

P2/1 Home learning

Good Morning P2/1

I hope you have enjoyed the long weekend. I have been thinking of those who were meant to be involved in the Gala procession this year and who were possibly a little disappointed.

P1 will receive learning from our P1 teachers as usual this week and P2 here is your new grid. Week 9 – There are lots of activities so please use in a way that best suits your family life. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Missing you all,

Mrs Davies

P1 Cross Curricular Activities

Hello P1. Here are a variety of activities you can try over the coming week.

Music

Watch this video and join in with a song. Have a go at making your own shaker or instrument. What materials will you use? What kinds of sounds will it make? Think of words to describe the sounds you make.

Did you know that rainbows always follow the same pattern of colours? Can you remember the order? Let us know what will help you to remember the order. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo then violet.

Science

Log on to Education City and complete the activities about push and pull.

These are ideas for you to use if you wish. Remember children learn in a variety of ways.

Have fun.

P2/1 Welcome to June

Hi everyone,

I hope you enjoyed Fitness Fortnight with the activities set by Mr Tennant. It was great to see some children participating and having lots of fun.

P2 – Here is the new P2 home learning grid – week 8 1.6.20 . We have changed it a little and the grid will now have 1 literacy activity, 1 Numeracy activity and 2 other activities for each day. The grid will still be issued on a Monday and you can complete the activities at a time which suits your family best.  You do not need to complete all activities and some of them you might try out more than once.  Remember to share any activities you do with me on Twitter.  I have also set some assessments on Sumdog and Education City if you want to have a go.

P1 – Your daily learning experiences will continue to be issued by the P1 teachers. I love to see what you are doing so remember to share with me on Twitter. I have also set you an assessment on Sumdog for this week.

Have a great day,

Mrs Davies

P1 Health & Wellbeing – Celebrating You

Looking after yourself is really important at a time like this. To keep yourself healthy you should try to eat lots of fruit and vegetables and drink plenty of water. It is also beneficial to follow a routine which includes daily exercise and plenty of rest.

Exercise can help to improve your mood and if you exercise regularly, it can reduce your stress levels and symptoms of mental health conditions like depression and anxiety. Try out some of these links to help your well being and just to have fun;

  • Cosmic Kids – A great website full of videos that make Yoga fun for everyone.
  • Go Noodle – Gets children up and moving to fun, engaging content and games. It allows children to wake up their bodies as well as engaging their minds.
  • Joe Wicks Daily PE Lesson – The famous exercise guru Joe Wicks is running a live PE lesson every week day at 9am from his YouTube channel. This could be a good way for the whole family to start the day.

We are all experiencing a variety of emotions at this time and our self-esteem may need a little boost. Self-esteem helps children cope with mistakes and build their resilience. It helps them try again, even if they fail at first. As a result, self-esteem will help them do better at school, at home, and with friends. Children with low self-esteem feel unsure of themselves, so improving self-esteem, improves confidence.

Your task is to make a collage ‘all about me’. A collage is a form of art where various pictures are arranged and glued to paper.

Write your name in the middle of your paper.

  1. Look through magazines, newspapers and any things that are no longer needed.
  2. Cut out pictures that represent you. E.g. Favourite colour, food, style, sports, toys, pets,  music, what you want to be when you grow up, hobby and other things you like.

4. Glue your pictures around your name.

  1. You may want to draw some pictures and add some labels using your neatest handwriting or cut out letters.

Share your collage with someone at home and also your teacher on Twitter or the blog. It might be nice if an adult shows you some of your classmates collages if they spot any on Twitter.

Join in with Naomi Wilkinson by clicking this link.  This is a song and dance routine which looks at the importance of self-belief and certainly will make you feel great.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zhmpnrd

Chat to someone in your house about what makes you special. What are you good at? Why are you great?

The P1 teachers know that you are great and can’t wait to see your collages.

P2/1 Week 6 Home Learning

Hi P2/1,

I hope you are still working hard at home and learning lots through different play experiences. I want to thank you and your families for all you are doing at this unusual time.

Please continue to let me know what you are doing via Twitter or here on our blog.

I hope you have had the chance to look at the P1-3 assembly which will now be posted on the blog every second Friday.

P1 will continue to receive daily activities from the P1 teachers and P2 will find this weeks home learning grid here – P2 Home Learning – Week 6     (P1 can also complete the ‘across the curriculum’ column on the P2 grid if they wish).

Remember to continue to do a little each day so you do not forget the skills you have learned. Sumdog, Teach your Monster to Read, Education City and IDL can help you revise.

A little reading/listening to a story everyday should be on everyone’s to do list.
