Here comes Spring!

The children’s interest in ocean/sea pollution is continuing to grow. Some children have been on a visit to the beach and have been doing a ‘clean up’ of their own. Please continue to encourage recycling at home and discussions on these benefits to save our environment and ocean/sea life.

Spring is around the corner and we are in the process of revamping the nursery garden. Last year the children were involved in making a Greenhouse out of recycled plastic bottles. At present we are introducing the children to our new allotment and will soon be planting some vegetables which the children will be involved in looking after. The nursery has registered with RHS gardening for schools to help us improve and make full use of our garden space. They have a fantastic website have a look [https://schoolgardening.rhs.og.uk] or make any members of staff aware of any ideas you have to improve our garden.

Keep the ocean clean

This week the children are beginning to move on from their interest in pirates and are now showing an interest in the ocean and the different animals that live in the ocean, particularly sharks! A few of the children have even been talking all about how the ocean is full of rubbish which is dangerous to animals, We then watched a video all about The big ocean clean up and this has sparked a big interest with the children about keeping the ocean clean. In our water tray we have been exploring using nets to clear the rubbish out of the water and to help the animals live in a safe clean environment. Please feel free to have a look at our floorbook within the nursery where it shows a variety of the children’s experiences and comments about what we have been learning in nursery.

On Thursday as it was World book day, the children came to nursery dressed in either their favorite book character or their pajamas, We had great fun exploring a range of the children’s favorite books, the events and the characters!

The children have also been having great fun getting extra muddy and wet in the garden with our new waterproof suits!

Pirates

The children are showing lots of interest in Pirates which has come from a PLOD in our Floorbook. Lot’s of dressing up, making a Treasure Chest and searching for Hidden Treasure. Have a look and feel free to add you or your child’s comments/interests into the Floorbook.

Thank you to all that managed to attend our Book Bug launch on Tuesday. Looking at the pictures everyone had a great time.

Our next Stay, Play and Learn is Monday 25th February

Thursday 28th February is the school’s Family Show case. It will run from 6:30pm – 7:30pm. The focus will be Maths.

Festive time is on its way…

With the running up to Christmas now on its way, it’s just busy, busy, busy.

This week in nursery we have been busy practicing singing songs for our nursery nativity. We are all really excited and enthusiastic about this.

We have also been really busy making prints to sell at our Christmas Fayre. Reminder our Christmas Fayre is on Saturday the 24thof November. We hope you will make it along.

Autumn

Through our autumn discussions and the Floor book the children are becoming more aware of the changes in the environment. They have been talking about the leaves changing colours and how they are different shapes. Remember if you are out and about talk about the seasonal changes and anything you find can be brought into nursery.

In the middle area we have been mixing three of the primary colour paints to see what happens. This has created lots of discussions on the different changes that happen when we mix the colours in line with our autumn theme.

‘I made purple with red and blue’, ‘red and yellow make orange’ and ‘I made green, yellow and blue’.

The Children from both sessions had lots of fun dancing  in the nursery Dance-a-Thon! Thank you for Your contributions.

The afternoon children were involved in making a Memorial Wreath for our remembrance service the P7 will be leading. Some of the morning children took it along this morning to lay it for the service.

A Spooky week

This week brought us Halloween on Wednesday. The Children were allowed to come in fancy dress. We had jelly with lots of spiders and colour in our water tray for making potions. At the activity table we carved our pumpkins to make them spooky. We had one of our favourite stories ‘Room on the Broom’ told by our very own Mrs Galloway and one of our children Alannah. Mrs Galloway used lots of fantastic props to help tell the story.

A big THANK YOU to our parent council for giving the children goody bags!

We are continuing with our Autumn floorbook and display next week if parents/carers have any comments or pictures of their children playing outside in the Autumn please speak to a member of staff and we will add your contribution to the display.

Now that we are into November and the weather is changing can we ask that if you are out for walks or have a back garden you look for changes happening and discuss it with you child. This helps us greatly with group time discussions and helps the children to learn new language.

Thank you to all the parents who paid their pound for dress up day!

Mini Beast and where to find them!

The children are still showing lots interest in the frogs they discovered down the outside drains. They have been feeding them dried Mealworms and leaves to help them grow. This has led on to the start of our first floor book.

Due to the rain there are lots of worms surfacing outside which the children have had great fun looking for. Too encourage the children to look for other mini beast we have introduced clip boards and a sheet with pictures of mini beasts that they can tick off as they find them.  There are copies of these sheets on our notice board please help yourselves.

The first Play Stay and Learn is Monday 24th September. There are still some places in both sessions if you would like to come and see how your child is developing their own learning through free play and interaction with their peers.

Coming to an End

The Green House is now complete and the children are continuing to look after the plants which are growing there. We have tomato, cucumber and pepper plants.  Thanks to everyone who donated the plastic bottles they were greatly appreciated. [It sits in the right hand side corner as you look out into the garden.]

The whole school have been involved in a STEM challenge. The children were too design and build a theme park ride using recyclable materials.

The nursery decided to focus on Ferris wheels. The children looked on line to see what they looked like before creating their own and after much debating we found our winners. Well done Ethan S from our morning session and Isla H from our afternoon session.

The Government have a new initiative called The Lost Words and are encouraging everyone to look at words that are not commonly used. This week we have introduced Adder and Dandelion through Gemma.  We have two publications of these books in nursery, please feel free to look through them.

Lost property clothing/items are being display in the entrance to the nursery have a look to see if anything belongs to your child as all remaining items will be handed into a charity shop at the end of term.

Can everyone empty their child’s bag by Thursday of next week as this gives staff time to wash them for starting next term.

As our weather is supposed to be picking up again can you please remember to put sun cream on your child.

Thank you.
