P1 – Let’s all be Friends!

We are learning to … be confident and build good friendships through singing.

I can … talk about forgiving and friendship.

I can … perform for others.

I can … work together with my class.

Here is what P1 had to say about their ‘Rookie Rockstars’ week:

The songs were teaching us how to be friends.

We learned rock songs.

They were about happiness and sadness.

I liked when we were singing – Bullies are not cool!

I liked the penguin dance.

I liked putting our arms round each other and showing we are friends

I liked the song about not giving up, like in a race!

I liked challenge time when people rapped or had a marshmallow challenge!

We were recording our songs for a CD.

We are looking forward to dressing up for the concert!

Contractions in P4

We are learning to understand and use apostrophes for contractions.

I can use apostrophe when writing contracted words.

Primary Four have been busy this week looking at apostrophes for contractions. We had different stations set up to practise this and all found it really engaging and fun. Firstly, we were asked for help by Shrek! He had written a letter to Puss in Boots and Donkey and wondered if we would read it for him to check for any mistakes. We were all up to the task!

So Station 1 was working in pairs to check Shrek’s letter. We spotted apostrophes used incorrectly for contractions and lots of other silly mistakes too like capital letters and spellings!

Station 2 was where we had to work as a group to complete a contractions loop cards game. We had lots of cards with which we shared evenly and had to match with its other half. The aim is to create one large circle together (a bit like dominoes). All our groups managed to complete it and noticed that a couple of the cards were in there to trick them!

Our final Station was number 3 and this was contraction surgery! We had lots of expanded phrases like ‘cannot’ and ‘you have’ and we had to cut them up correctly and insert a plaster apostrophe in the correct place. This was very messy but we were all able to justify why we had placed our plaster apostrophe in the place we did and why it was correct.

We now have a much more solid understanding of the use of contractions and were able to come back together as a class and share our learning. We have fixed Shrek’s letter now so hopefully he will get a response back from Donkey and Puss soon!

Pumphie Pals – Have your say!

At our Pumphie Pals session this morning we used How Good is our School to create key questions to help us reflect on our year. We then used this time to answer the questions reflecting on what went well and how we could be even better.

This information will be collated along with our staff and parent/ carers views to help form our priorities for next session.

Primary 2

What were we learning?

New songs about things like forgiveness, friendship and differences.

How will we know if we were successful?

  • We can listen carefully to the song instructions.
  • We can sing in a loud, clear voice.
  • We can perform the actions.

What did we do?

Chloe and Glyn have been working with us all week! We learned lots of different songs (‘I’m so Glad’, ‘Never Give Up’, ‘Bullies ain’t Big’, ‘Hey, Hey, I’m OK!’ and ‘Let’s all be Friends!’). These songs gave us lots of different messages, such as to be kind to others, to be forgiving, that it’s good to be us and to keep trying. They try to makes us more confident. Every day, there was a different challenge, including the ‘Chubby Bunny’ challenge and the Rap Battle wih Mrs Campbell and Miss Mulhern. Yesterday, we got to be like real rockstars and record our own CD! Next week, we even get to dress up and star in our own concert! We hope to see you there!

Check in with us next week to see what we are learning!

Until next time…

P6 Blog Letter Writing

Learning Intention:
We are learning to write a letter
Success Criteria:
I can have a reason for writing as an introduction
I can write in first person
I can include a date
I can open and close with an appropriate greeting

For our topic of ‘Local Community’ we visited the nearby construction site, building new houses. The pupils prepared questions for the Builders, West Lothian Council and for our Head Teacher on what they were curious about the changing area.
In our writing lesson, the pupils drafted letters to be sent to the Builders and the Council containing these questions so that they might get some answers.
I am happy to say that the whole class managed to accomplish all the success criteria and made some very professional looking letters.

“I learned you need a comma after ‘Dear Sir or Madam’ otherwise it won’t be laid out properly” -Andrew

“I learned you need to write directly below the comma of our opening” -Katie

“I learned you need to end with ‘Yours Faithfully’ to close it properly” -Oliwia

FLT is a great chance to spend time sharing learning with your child, talking about their progress and next steps and understanding more of what they are learning before parent appointments – any member of the family is welcome.

Your child will shortly receive a slip in their school bag, please complete the slip  and return to school so we know who to expect on the day.

Triathlon Coaching Session

Today, we welcomed a coach from Triathlon Scotland/West Lothian Tri to come into school and coach some of the children in P5-7 who have expressed an interest in the upcoming West Lothian Schools Triathlon. They learned about what to expect on the day and had a chance to practise some transition drills. The children taking part all really enjoyed the session and we have had a message from the coach to say how well-behaved the children were. Well done to all that took part!

Primary 2

Hello little ones! Just posting to give you a little update on Molly!

We visited the doctor on Friday afternoon as she was still feeling unwell. The doctor checked her over and asked us to describe her symptoms:

  • sore throat
  • aches in her legs and arms
  • fever
  • headache
  • sore stomach
  • not feeling hungry

For now, the doctor has prescribed Molly lots of rest and to keep drinking water. If she doesn’t feel better in a few days, she might have to take medicine to help.

Molly is looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow, but we will have to keep a special eye on her!

See you then!
Miss M 🙂
