Girls Football Festival Winners!

Our Primary 6 girls attended a girls only football festival this afternoon at Deans Community High School.

There were 6 teams taking part in the festival from across West Lothian. We played 5 games in total and ended up joint winners with Bankton Primary School.

The girls were a credit to the school and themselves! Thank you to everyone at Deans Community High School for organising the event.

Well Done Pumphy!!!

Primary 6 Weekly Update

This week in Primary 6 we have been learning more about our topic for this term: The Human Body Systems. We were learning about the Skeletal System and the main roles it plays within the body.

We were set a challenge where we had to create a support for a tennis ball which would hold it high above a table. We discussed the different features of structures, what would work well and what would not offer enough support. This was to replicate the role that the skeleton plays in supporting the body.

Below were our two winners who were rated by their classmates as having a 10/10 rating!

P6 Weekly Update

This week in Primary 6 we had a visit from Zoe Gordon who shared her knowledge of languages with us. She will be working with us over the coming weeks to further develop our knowledge of French and Spanish. This week we worked on getting to know Spain and basic Spanish greetings.

In Science, Mrs McJimpsey worked with us on our knowledge of forces. She challenged us to create a Tin Foil Boat which was able to float on water. We then had to add one penny at a time onto the boat, counting them as we went along to see how long it would take for the boat to sink. We really enjoyed this activity!

Today we have went over the Mini-Health and Wellbeing Champs application. We have been asked to think about if we would like to apply for this role which will go with us into P7. The applications will be handed out on Monday 16th May 2022 and must be returned by Monday 30th May 2022. This can be completed at home however we advise the children to complete this themselves.

Well done to our certificate winners for this week, Sophie-Rose and Finlay.

P6 Weekly Update

Hello everyone,

Another busy week, so here is what we have been up to.

Literacy – We started the week by revisiting imperative verbs and recapping our knowledge of this through interactive stations. World Book Day 2022 was yesterday, where we were able to share our love of literacy and reading with the whole school and our class. We were given the opportunity to read for enjoyment, share our favourite stories with friends and show off our creativity. We were set a drawing challenge where we were asked to draw our favourite character from from a book of our choosing.

Numeracy – We have been focusing on squared numbers where we used our knowledge of multiplication to help us.

Maths – We have been developing our knowledge of information handling. We will be looking to develop this further over the coming weeks.

IDL/Topic – As part of our Human Body Systems topic, we have now moved on to investigate the purpose of the digestion system. This week we looked at the organs involved in this and will be looking into this further next week.

PE – We participated in a class Handball tournament, where we were asked to work collaboratively as a team, use positive language and bring together the skills we had learnt over previous weeks. We did a great job!

We also had pancakes on Tuesday for Shrove Tuesday! They were delicious!!

Have a lovely weekend.

Be an Author – Book Week Scotland Competition

Last week we set all classes a free writing competition inviting them to create a piece of writing on any theme or in any style for Book Week Scotland.

Our house and vice captains had the difficult job of judging the competition this week.

P1-P4/3 created theirs on paper, and P4-7 uploaded theirs to Teams.

Congratulations to all our fabulous authors!

Breich Term 1 Celebration

Today Breich had a physically distanced house party to celebrate winning the term 1 house points. They played games and danced outside in their class bubbles. Our new outdoor loud speaker was a hit! They also received a treat bag and prizes for best dancer.

Thank you to Jake and Ava for helping us organise it!

Congratulations Breich!

Dress Down Day Totals

Fantastic totals for our recent dress down day – congratulations to Breich who will receive 100 extra house points! Thank you to everyone who contributed this money will be used to support our Sumdog subscription for this session.

P7 Responsible Roles

Primary 7 were super excited to find out their new Responsible Roles today! Although the roles may look a bit different this year, they still have an important leadership role to play in our school.

During school closures they completed an online form job application to apply for the role they would like to be considered for, stating the reasons why.

Their Responsible Roles in the playground  are:

  • Magical Mediators

  • Playful Pals

  • Safe Security

The children will start their rota on Monday supporting P1 and 2. We will establish new job descriptions to keep everyone safe and keep to our class bubbles.
