Big Spring Clean

Well done everyone for putting in a fantastic effort for our Big Spring Clean this afternoon! P1 – P6 did a great job of cleaning up our school grounds and the surrounding local area in a safe and responsible way. Thank you very much to our many parent helpers for getting involved too.

Classes also attended an assembly run by David and Alan, Education Officers from Cleaner Communities, which taught us about the impact that litter can have on the environment. Did you know that West Lothian Council spends almost £3 million a year on cleaning up litter? Just think what else that money could be put towards if we all did our part in reducing litter!

Thank you to the members of our Green Gang Junior Leadership Team for their work in organising this event. Keep up the hard work in making Pumpherston and Uphall Station a cleaner and safer place!

If you feel that you could contribute to supporting one of these groups please contact the school office.

Watch the video of our Tree Planting Day

Thank you so much to everyone who turned up this afternoon for our tree planting.  The weather was very kind to us and we had a fantastic time with a great community atmosphere.

Properly protected and cared for, the trees we planted today will enhance the appearance and safety of your school for generations to come and provide rich and exciting learning experiences for your children.

Watch the video below.

Garden Club

Our school gardening year is coming to an end. We had a bumper crop of vegetables this year and we all had fun digging, sowing, planting, reaping, cooking and eating. Thanks to everyone who helped build beds and sheds and to all the parents and carers who bought the vegetables. We made over £80 which we will use to buy seeds and compost for next year.  We can’t  wait for the springtime to start again!
A huge thanks from everyone at school to Sara-Jane Haston who keeps us going with her enthusiasm and ideas.  The outdoor space would be nothing like it is today without her efforts.  20160831_133727 20160831_134508 20160831_135613 20160831_135620 20160831_144705 tattie-haul_aug-2016

Our School Gardens

gdnhd

We are trying very hard to make our school grounds an interesting and stimulating environment for our children to play and learn in. We are always looking for volunteers to help us with digging, landscaping, general maintenance or ‘heavy’ work tasks in our garden. If you have some free time and are interested in helping then please contact Miss Baillie or the School Office for more information. All volunteers are very welcome!

Morrisons vouchers

Thank you to everyone who donated Morrisons ‘Let’s Grow’ vouchers to our school. We collected 1595 which will let us order more trowels, forks and planting equipment for our Ground Force box, and a couple of items to build up our food preparation equipment to help in our learning about Food and Health.

The Eco Factor

Have you been practising your entry for the Eco Talent show next week? The Eco Committee will be hosting the Eco Factor and judging the best two entries from each class to find the best Junior and Senior Eco acts in school.  In class Auditions will be held very soon – the Big Final is on Thursday 20th at Assembly. Remember, if you want to win, your act MUST contain and very clear ECO message…

Look what came today!

Our green flag

Early bird pupils were able to cheer on the raising of our Green flag as it was put in place first thing this morning! What a fantastic start to our week.

The Eco committee are still working hard on keeping our school recycling systems going, and encouraging everyone to use the litter bins. This month it is Primary 1 and 1/2 turn on the litter picking duty, so we’re sure the playground will be clean and clear.

We are also planning an exciting competition which will take place in March. More details will follow, but in the meantime if you have an entertaining talent, keep practicing…

We noticed last week that some of the bulbs planted in the front border are already poking their leaves up to look for the sun, so it won’t be long til spring. Keep your eyes open and let us know if you see anything interesting growing in and around our grounds.
