The Girl and the Dinosaur

Hi Primary 3,

This week my story for you is ‘The Girl and the Dinosaur’. It is my last story for you and I chose it as a reminder of what your very first topic in P3 was. Doesn’t that seem a long time ago now!

Here are some files which will help you complete your tasks:

Book Review

The Girl and the Dinosaur Comprehension

Dinosaur Colouring Just For Fun

Mary Anning fact page

Mary Anning powerpoint

And below are the follow on activities you can do. Try to do at least two over the week. This week your handwriting task links to the book, so make sure you complete that task as well.

The Girl and the Dinosaur Reading Comprehension

  1. How is the pier at the seaside described?
  2. What does Marianne slide down?
  3. What mythical creatures do they see in the night?
  4. Why is the dinosaur described as brave?
  5. Can you name three of the dinosaurs they meet in the sky?
  6. Do you think the land in the sky is real? Why or why not?

Wonderful Writer In the story the girl makes a wish that comes true. Write your own story about a wish that comes true.

Book Review Print out the book review and complete (or create your own version)

Artistic Ace Draw a picture to represent part of the story and write at least 2 sentences to describe your drawing.

Question Master Design your own Girl and the Dinosaur quiz or a quiz about dinosaurs

Rocking Researcher Find out about the real female fossil hunter ‘Mary Anning’ and write down some facts about her. You could create an information poster.

Handwriting Find out Copy out the following passage in your neatest handwriting. Remember to think about the letters sitting on the line, being the correct shape and size. Then add an illustration.

There’s a town beside the sea,

Not so very far from here,

With golden sands and rock pools,

And a tattered battered pier.

And there’s a girl upon the beach,

Her name is Marianne,

She’s digging for a dinosaur

Just beneath the sand.

P3B Monday 21st June

Good morning,

First a highlight from my past week: Father’s day was great. The girls got me a special takeaway platter of cheeses and cold meats, along with a drink. They also gave me some lovely handmade cards. We went on a lovely walk, although we did get rained on a few times. I can’t believe that after all the exploring I have done in the last few months that I am still discovering new places around the town.

Remember, I would love to hear about your highlights too.

Please, check out the school website for the P3 resources for home learning this week. Again there is an emphasis on health and well-being and we would like you to design your own at home sports day!

As it is the last week of term, spelling this week is a revision of the last four rules.

There is a new Sumdog competition that the class has been entered into for the week.

Check out my post about this weeks story ‘The Girl and the Dinosaur’. It’s my last one! During the week let us know how you are getting on by emailing myself and Miss Ross.

Have a great day,

Mr Brice

P3A Monday 22nd June

Good Morning 3A!

I hope you all had a good weekend.  On Saturday I went with my family to Muiravonside Park.  The play area and farm are still closed but we had a nice walk and we took a picnic lunch.

The week 12 resources are ready for you on the website.  I know lots of you continue to enjoy Sumdog.  We did very well in the last contest so I have entered the P3 classes into the new West Lothian Maths Sumdog challenge. Like last time, your answers count towards your individual and class scores.  The challenge is live now until this Friday.  Good luck!

Congratulations to those who were featured in Friday’s Celebrating Success.  Also, if you placed in our P3 Sumdog challenges from last week, you’ll find your reward coins waiting for you.

Have a great day.

Story Time From Home – Monday 22nd June

Hello everyone,

I hope that you had a good weekend.

I can hardly believe that it is the last week of term and the last week for Story Time at Home.

There is no special theme this week.  I have chosen all the stories just because I like them and I hope you will like them too. Remember, if you missed any of last week’s stories you can still go back and watch them too.

https://vimeo.com/431273818

I am sure that lots of you will know this story  – it really is disgusting and I do feel sorry for the poor badger. But like lots of stories it does have a happy ending.

Have a good day and if you’re having a sandwich for lunch, I do hope it’s a nice one!

Miss McDermott

3a 19.6.20 Good Morning

Good morning, everybody.

We’re getting very close to the end of term. The summer holidays are fast approaching. I think we all need a break from online learning and I know you’re looking forward to getting back to school in August.

One thing I have noticed is that lots families are out walking together. I’m always out and about with the dogs, but it’s great to see so many people enjoying the simple pleasure of taking a walk in nature. I hope that after lockdown  I keep seeing families taking their daily exercise. As you know our focus until the end of term is Health and Wellbeing and country walks are great for my physical and emotional wellbeing. Let me know what helps you keep being positive.

Just for fun…

At last Hetzer was allowed to play with a toy. Usually Katie Morag steals it from him.

P3B Friday 19th June

Good Morning P3B,

Thank you to those of you who have sent myself and Miss Ross an email this week. I hope you have a fabulous weekend. One of next weeks tasks is to make up your own at home sports day. I wonder what you will come up with. I’m going to have a go too.

Here’s a little game that my daughters like to play sometimes. It’s great fun for all the family and you may want to have a go. It’s called ‘Stop the Bus’. Each person needs to make a sheet like the one below. One person chooses a letter and then think of an item for each category as quickly as you can. When somebody has something for every category shout ‘Stop the Bus’ and everyone has to put their pens down. You can give children an extra 30 seconds after an adult has called stop the bus.

You score 10 points for any unique answers and 5 if someone else has your answer. You can play as many rounds as you want. If you want play with different categories. At home, the Brice’s have even played it with family in England over Zoom. Have fun!

Best Wishes, Mr Brice

3a 18.6.20 Good Morning

Good morning,  3a.

The days seem to start off cloudy and late in the afternoon the sun comes out. That suits me fine. After I log off  from school, I  can go garden visiting.

This is a new activity for me. I go and visit friends in their gardens and make sure I leave before it rains, or I need to go to the loo.

Remember our focus this week is Health and Wellbeing. I hope you’re enjoying some of the activities we have suggested.

Just for fun….

Hetzer likes to sit on one dog bed and hold on to the other, leaving poor Katie Morag with no where to lie down. I think he looks very guilty in today’s photo.

P3B Thursday 18th June

Morning everyone! I hope you have all had a good week. I can’t believe its Thursday already.

This week we are looking at healthy eating. Have a look at Tesco’s ‘Eat Happy Project’ on their YouTube channel. They have lots of great videos to choose from.  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiGAAbnpbIYqZeCFeA4K_nQ

Here is the Cookie Monster singing about eating healthy.

We have also been looking at sun safety. Here is Sammy the seagull’s summer safety story beware there might be some singing throughout the story just like super cats road safety rap that we done in class! You can make up your own tune and actions for it.

Story Time From Home – Thursday 18th June

Hello boys and girls

Here is the link for Thursday’s Story Time From Home which once again has a keeping healthy theme.

You might have heard me read this story if you have been in my class but it does have an important message and sometimes it is nice to hear stories more than once.

I hope you are all keeping well and still managing to do some home learning for your grown ups and teachers too!

17.6.20 Good Morning 3a

Good morning everybody.

I hope you all enjoyed the Marches holiday yesterday. I went to visit my sister in law and we took Hetzer and Katie Morag for a country walk. Katie Morag  managed to find a bog to paddle in, but I never worry about the dogs getting muddy. It’s easy to brush off once they’re dry.

We’re into the last two weeks of term now and our focus is Health and Wellbeing. I hope you enjoy the activities on our learning grid, or have ideas of your own to encourage good mental and physical health.

Please remember to email me this week. I look forward to hearing from you.

Just for fun…

Here are some more puppy photos. I can’t guarantee they won’t be upside down.

P3B Monday 15th June

Good morning,

First a highlight from my past week: I’ve been continuing with my running and last week I beat my personal best on distance. I managed to run 20km in one run/jog. I had very sore legs the next day! I have also made a sign out of some of the materials I had from last years Gala day when Sofia was a Flower Girl. I’ve made it rainbow colours. I hope you like it.

Remember, I would love to hear about your highlights too.

For the next two weeks, we will be focusing a lot more on Health and Well-being. That means on keeping our bodies healthy and active, on eating a balanced diet, on talking about how to keep safe, and on talking about different feelings and how we cope with them.

Please, check out the school website for the P3 resources for home learning this week.

https://linlithgowprimary.westlothian.org.uk/article/50794/P3-Home-Learning-Grids

Here are this week spellings.

Tomorrow is a school holiday because of the Linlithgow Marches. I won’t be setting a spelling hunt. However, I might take Sofia and Charlotte on a hunt for the Perambulation Stones and you may wish to during the week too. Especially, as we are having our Health and Wellbeing Fortnight.

The stones mark the boundary of Linlithgow from 1832. Here is what one of them looks like. You could walk or cycle the route which is 6.5km long and I think there are seven stones to find. The map below suggests starting the walk from St Ninians Church which is where we went before Christmas. One of the stones is located right next to it. Check out the map and you can find out more in the Leaflet which I have attached.

Perambulation_Leaflet

Check out my post about this weeks story ‘Paddington Bear’. I hope you enjoy it. During the week let us know how you are getting on by emailing myself and Miss Ross.

Have a great day,

Mr Brice
