I hope you are all well, happy and smiling on this sunny Tuesday!
Have you drawn or painted a rainbow? I thought you might like to see the rainbows my son and I drew to display in our window. I think this is a wonderful way for children across the country to “spread hope” and brighten up everyone`s day!
Hi everyone from Mrs McWhirter. I hope you all had a lovely Easter break and enjoyed the sunshine! I am missing seeing and hearing you all but I hope we can have some musical fun and learning here!
I hope you enjoy this song all about the lovely flowers coming out just now and many more images of the wonderful world! I think some of you will already know this song and can sing along.
My favourite part is the Boom de anna bit which is repeated many times and you could clap along to that part or tap your knees or find something safe in your house to use as a drum. A cardboard box can make a great sound and wooden spoons can be tapped together a bit like our claves! Please always ask before you try to make sure it’s safe!
Another thing you could try is writing your own verse about what you like. I would love to read some of your ideas here so please get song writing! Here’s my verse, try and sing it!
I like the Springtime, I like the blossom trees
I like the garden , I like the bumble bees
I like the sunlight shining down on me
Boom de anna boom de anna boom de anna boom de anna
Wow! What a lot of messages yesterday! I am so glad to hear that everyone is geting on well and having a go at all the home learning tasks. The photos that you have been sending are fantastic and it is lovely that I can now see some of your lovely smiley faces again!
Here is the link to today’s dragon story and underneath it is a link to a youtube video about how to draw a dragon that you might want to try. We have used some of these videos in the classroom for drawing thistles and a Scottie dog. Remember it is a good idea to keep pausing the video as you draw.
It is a lovely sunny day here in Bathgate and hopefully it will be in Linlithgow too, so maybe you’d rather get outside and keep the dragon drawing for another day!
Today we are learning about symmetry. There are a few ideas on our weekly PowerPoint to have a look at, however, as the sun is shining I wonder if you can make a symmetrical picture in your garden using natural materials like leaves, stones and flowers. Find your line of symmetry and make sure that both sides are the same just like a butterflies wings. Send in any photos as we would love to see them.
Welcome back to a new term. I am really missing you all.
I hope you have all had a lovely Easter break. Maybe you have been enjoying the sunshine or playing in the garden? I would love to know what you have been doing!
I have had a lovely Easter. I have been in my garden and have even been bouncing on the trampoline with my little boy! I have also been doing fitness programmes and dancing to keep healthy. I have been speaking with my family and friends on the phone. I also take shopping to my Mum and Dad because they cannot leave the house.
I hope you will send me some of your news or show me some of the things you have been doing too!
I hope you have all had a fun Easter holiday. I have had a lovely time with my family relaxing and spending time together. We are going to be posting some ideas of activities that you can do over the course of the week . For now, why not take part in Joe Wick morning workout which was live earlier this morning. It is a great way to start the day.
I hope you had a wonderful Easter break – a little bit different to normal I imagine, but I hope you all managed to have fun, to relax and to spend some time (in person or on the phone/internet) with friends and family.
I had a nice Easter doing lots of cooking, some drawing and a bit of decorating. Our dog, Bennie, has decided he likes sitting beside the window because he is quite nosy and likes to look into the garden to spy on any birds and cats. We have been enjoying the lovely Spring weather and all the new flowers near us, have you seen any nice signs of Spring? It seems to have arrived at last!
Here is a link to a fun pattern song that we like to dance to in P1B:
Perhaps ask an adult to skip the adverts. This song reminds me of all the fun we have together, and also it is fitting because we always say that in P1B, the B stands for brilliant and… totally bananas!!! I miss you all very much and can’t wait to hear about some of the learning and playing you are doing at home.
Welcome back to term 4. I hope you have had a nice relaxing Easter break and ready to get started. I definitely enjoyed seeing the sunshine and eating a few Easter eggs. đ
I have also enjoyed seeing all the beautiful rainbows in windows as we have been out for  our daily walk.
Do you have one in your window? Why not share it with us. If you havenât done one, maybe you could make one this week.
Be creative in your ideas.
Here is mine. đ
On your next walk, try to count how many rainbows you see!
Have a good first day back. Get in touch with any questions.
Create a story starring the ORT characters â Mum, Dad, Biff, Chip, Kipper and Floppy. Draw what they did as a family while they were in lockdown and write what you can about it.
Numeracy – Symmetry
Butterfly wings are beautiful examples of symmetry, which means that the wings on one side of the body match the wings on the opposite side of the body. Instead of the word match, letâs say the wings are mirror images of each other like this one –
Discover for Yourself
You can use an index card to make symmetrical butterfly wings. Note: An unlined index card works best for this activity. The bigger the card, the bigger the wings.
1. Fold the index card in half by placing the short sides together.
2. Draw butterfly wings on the folded card as shown.
3. Cutting through both layers of the card, cut around the wing drawing. DO NOT CUT ON THE FOLD.
4. Open up the cut out design.
5. Using liquid paints, such as water soluble acrylic paints or tempra paints, place dots of different colors on the wings as shown.
6. Fold the the wing in half along the fold line, and then with your fingers press the wings together. You want to spread the colored dots paint.
7. Unfold the wings and VOILAâ you have beautifully colored symmetrical butterfly wings.
Discover For Yourself:
How would the following affect the appearance of the butterfly wings?
1. changing the amount of paint used for each dot
2. the colors used for the dots
3. the number of dots used
DARE TO BE CREATIVE!!!! if you don’t have paint try food instead!
Science – Life Cycles
At this time of year you might notice more wildlife. Birds are singing more and building nests. I have noticed some bumble bees around, dotting from spring flower to flower. I have not seen any butterflies yet – do you know where they come from?
Investigate the life cycle of a butterfly.
Activity: Watch the Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Can you draw a picture of each stage of the butterfly life cycle. Why do you think it is called a life cycle? Can you think of any other life cycles?
Go and explore in your garden or if you go for a walk. Look closely under stones or logs, on leaves and plants. What can you find? Listen to the sounds. What can you hear, see and smell?
Make up a dance or drama about the life cycle of a butterfly.
Have fun. Send pictures or videos of anything you do to your teacher.
Welcome back everyone! Hope you all had a little time off from learning over the Easter holidays and have been doing some nice things with your families.
Below is the first of this weekâs stories to help with the P2 and P2/1 writing task which is all about dragons!
Thank you to everyone who has been watching and listening to the stories and been sending messages. Below is the link to the last story before the Easter holidays.

I hope that everyone stays safe and well with their families and I look forward to sharing lots of new stories with you again soon.
Here is the link for todayâs story and also for the months of the year song that I mentioned.
Children should know days of the week and months of the year in order by the end of Curriculum for Excellence Early Level. This is by the end of P1 for most children and is why I do a daily calendar in class. The children in P2/1 will certainly know the days of the week songs but perhaps you could search for more online for a wee change if youâre looking for something else to do!
Hello everyone, here is the link for the first of this weeksâs stories.
Thank you for all the lovely messages. If you would like to leave a message too, click on the small writing that says âleave a commentâ underneath the date. You donât need to be logged in to Glow to do this or for me to message you back. It is good way to practice your ICT skills!
