P2 Homework Grid for September/October 2020

Good Afternoon

Please find attached the homework grid for September/October for Primary 2. The children will share their home learning on Friday 9th October. All children must do the task of preparing a 2 minute talk all about themselves. Talks will be heard in class the week beginning the 5th October. The children can choose a minimum of 2 other tasks to complete from the remaining 5 tasks.

P3 Reflections 11.9.20

P3 Learning Reflection 11/09/20

P3 have had a busy few weeks settling back into school life. We have been learning lots of new and exciting things and would like to share some of them with you!

Lois: “We made dot art yesterday. We read The Dot which is all about Growth Mindset. Now we know not to give up.”

Euan: “We have been doing exciting things. I like doing spelling. We make words with playdoh to help us remember how to spell them.”

Murdo: “I have enjoyed doing art. I liked doing dot art, I made pattern with the dots. I also liked drawing numbers using Base 10 in the playground.”

Charley F: “I have enjoyed doing the dot art because it was fun. We learnt that you shouldn’t give up and you should keep trying!”

Charley B: “We wrote happiness and anger emotion poems. We used similes to help people picture what happiness and sadness look like.”

Sevinc: “I’ve liked coming back to school and seeing my friends. I’ve made lots of new friends too.”

Issac: “I enjoy doing Free Writing Friday. You can write about anything and you can draw a picture too. I’m writing a book just now.”

Lewis: “We are learning about place value in maths. We know about the place value chart that has thousands, hundreds, tens and units. You can put numbers under these and find out how much they’re worth.”

Kaelan: “I enjoyed Growth Mindset art. It helped my brain learn that practice makes perfect!”

Weekly Blog – 11.9.2020

Math – this week for maths we were doing loads of things like rounding and we were rounding 5 digit numbers. Then we did subtraction and addition just to revise it and Mrs T gave us a challenge to think of every method for subtraction and addition. We did mental math as well and we had to multiply 2 digit multiply 3 digit numbers and then do it in our head. It was probably the hardest math so far this week, we also did a wee bit of Sumdog too.

Literacy-for literacy this week we continued reading, Holes our new book we are reading as a class and we had some activities. We had to choose a character and it use a Role On The Wall template to write describing words about them, then find a quote in the book that represented the adjective. It was hard but I found it really fun. We started doing comprehension again and this week it was about Asterix. At first we didn’t know what Asterix was so Mrs T showed us a video about it and we found it really funny.

ICT – We used Monday as a project day to write and redraft our Buddy Letters. We wanted to check in on them and make sure they were settling into Primary 1. We then learned how to create a Sway, and were given the challenge of creating Sways all about us. Once we did that we then learned how to turn the Sway into a QR Code. Mrs T then printed them off and we glued them to our letters. Finally we decorated the envelopes and delivered them to their teachers. We really enjoyed this activity as there was so much learning.

Across the Curriculum- we have started a topic about John Muir and we watched a couple of videos and then search up all about him. I find him really interesting and we are very excited to find more about him. Science this week was about man made rocks and natural rocks.

P1 Learning Reflection for W/E 11.9.20

This week in P1 we have been learning the sound ‘p’ which is a pink quiet lip sound and ‘n’ which is a dark blue sound which we make with our tongue. P1 are learning which parts of the mouth make the sounds we learn, this helps us to make the pure sound by using the correct parts of the mouth. I will go over this during meet the teacher. In numeracy, we have been counting and sorting with numbers 9 and 10.  When the grass on the field is dry enough to use P1 have enjoyed playing outdoor games. We also walked around the boundary of the field and discussed safe boundaries during outdoor PE. The children enjoyed playing in the back garden this week, we did some sound spotting and found seeds, sticks and feathers. Please see below for the children’s learning comments.

Georgia – This week I learned ‘p’ it is a pink sound

Olivia – ‘p’ is a pink sound because it is a soft sound; pig has the ‘p’ sound.

Oliver – ‘p’ is a pink sound because it’s a quiet sound.

Kyra – we did feeling and hearing in science.

Lily –‘p’ is a pink sound because you make it with your lips. It is a quiet sound!

This week in P4

Good afternoon,

This week in Primary 4, we have continued our health and well-being work on the film ‘Inside Out’ by observing the characters, Anger and Joy. Looking at how they react and working together in pairs to discuss how our bodies react when we are experience these emotions.

In PE this week, we tried to increase our speed, time and level in the bleep test.

In Maths, we continued with place value, comparing numbers and knowing which number is greater and which is smaller.

In Literacy, we developed our understanding of recount writing. Looking at the different parts of a recount story and the openers of sentences that you may use when writing a recount piece. We were able to get out into the playground this week to work in groups to write as many openers as we could with the chalk. Our spelling focus this week was words that end in ‘ies’.

P2/1 Weekly Learning Reflection W/E Friday 11th September 2020

Good Afternoon. P2/1 have had another busy week full with lots of learning.

In Literacy, P1 have this week learned the sounds ‘n’ and ‘p’ and the tricky words of and my. We have made the letters with play dough, looked for them in a book, made a nest and a feathery parrot, taught ted and coloured in ‘p’pictures. We also made words on our magnetic boards using the letters learned so far. P2 have been revising the igh and i-e sounds. We have looked for words in a word search, taught ted words with these sounds, played roll and read, played the snail trail race and spotted sounds in a story.

In Numeracy P1 have been learning about the numbers 8 and 9. We have made 8 and 9 out of play dough, made families of 9 using our counting bears, completed an activity sheet all about 8 and drew a story of 8. P2 have been focusing on counting, comparing objects and numbers using greater than, less than and equals and we looked at ordinal numbers. We created a poster comparing numbers, played games about ordinal numbers, sorted dominoes into smallest to largest and coloured in animals depending on their position.

In Health and Wellbeing this week we looked at keeping connected and we spoke about our families. We drew a picture of who lived in our house. We started our interdisciplinary learning on animals. We looked at a PowerPoint about the jungle and guessed what animals lived there.

P5’s First Blog Post of the Session

Here is our reflection of our first few weeks back at school. The time has whizzed by and we have learned a lot.

Rohan – I like when we are doing our maths. When we were learning counting in 25s and learning about numbers in the thousands.

Sebastian – I liked doing the Optical Art because it was interesting and colourful.

Anna – I liked doing the PE outside on the field and on the playground. It is a bit more fun outside. I also liked listening to How to Train Your Dragon.

Olly – This week I enjoyed the writing because I thought it was imaginary and I liked reading about the first kid to go to the moon.

Freya – I like rounding to the nearest thousand.  I got used to rounding to the nearest 10 and 100 first then it was easy to round to the nearest 1000.

Luke N – I enjoyed doing Op Art because it was really cool and made my eyes feel weird.

Kayden – I enjoyed PE outside because since Lockdown started I haven’t been out or playing football that much.

Jarrad – I like the Optical Art because it is cool and I am interested in Art. I like it when Hiccup has to be brave in How to Train Your Dragon because it is exciting.

Euan – I like How to Train Your Dragon because it is as cool as seeing a snake on the way back from the hotel in  Florida. I enjoyed learning about Similes!

Darcy – I really like counting in 25s. It was fun.

Harris – I liked when we went outside to the pagoda to listen to How to Train Your Dragon. It was funny when Toothless put a dead rat inside Stoick the Vast’s bed.

William – I like How to Train Your Dragon because Hiccup is always funny but he is brave too and he nearly dies sometimes.

Labib – I like being at this school. I was very happy when I went home. I like rounding to 10, 100 and 1000. I am quite good at it now. I like trying to make lots of words in the smart start. You can also learn new words. I enjoyed the one where we used Old Wrinkly letters.

Kaitlyn – I liked doing the Optical Art and it was good giving feedback to each other about what we liked and disliked.

Sophie – I like listening to How to Train Your Dragon.

Emma M – I liked learning about Resilience today in assembly. I found out that baby turtles have an instinct to head for the water.

Luke C – I like learning about there, their and they’re because now I understand it more. I loved How to Train Your Dragon because Toothless is puny but he gets stronger as he does things if you tell him a joke.

Leo – I like the CLIC maths every Friday because it is challenging and it gets my brain focussed.

Finn – I like How to Train Your Dragon because it is very peculiar because it is unusual as Toothless only does things because he likes a joke. It is fun to hear it.

Blake – I like reading the How to Train Your Dragon book. It is getting better every time. I like trying to use the Words of the Day.

Teme – I liked counting in 25s and How to Train Your Dragon because it is very good.

Angus – I like How to Train Your Dragon when Hiccup finally trains Toothless by telling him a joke. The joke was only a bit funny.

Rhys – I liked science with Mr Keast because we were learning about famous scientists. I learned about Albert Einstein.

All pupils know their login details. We have gone over the grid in class so they should also be aware of what they need to do.
