P2/1 Weekly Learning Reflection W/E 23rd October 2020

Good Afternoon. I hope you all had a lovely break. P2/1 have worked very hard in this short week. In Literacy, P1 have been practising their tricky words. We have been reading, writing and making words such as I, me and my. We played disappearing words. P2 have been looking at high frequency words (common words) such as little. We played roll and read, looked for words in a word search and put these words into  sentences.

In Maths P1 and P2 have been exploring 2D shapes. We have used shapes to make pictures, played shape bingo, played a shape monsters game on the smartboard, walked around the school on a shape hunt and coloured in shapes. We have discussed the properties of shapes for example a triangle has 3 sides and 3 points.

In Science with Miss Whigham we discussed Autumn. We spoke about the leaves changing colour, birds migrating and animals hibernating. We wrote about what we see in Autumn. In Drama, we explored using sign language to express how we are feeling.

Here are a few of the children’s reflections:

“I found it easy playing the roll and read with high frequency words.”

“I enjoyed searching for high frequency words in a word search.”

“I learned about squirrels making a store of their nuts for the winter. I did not know this before.”

“I found it tricky when practising writing the letter ‘g’.”

“I enjoyed colouring in the picture of the house and finding all the different shapes.”

“It was tricky writing the letter ‘g’.

“I enjoyed handwriting.”

“I found it hard writing the letter ‘p’.”

Have a lovely weekend.

Farewell Mrs Mill!

Today marked Mrs Mill’s last day as Head Teacher at LVPS! We gave her a lovely handmade gift which you will see below and Primary four, along with the other classes in the School, presented this to her. Each flower had a personal memory from the children inside them. She will be missed by all. Enjoy your retirement Mrs Mill!

P1 Learning Reflection W/E 9.10.20

In P1 this week our learned sounds were u and b and the tricky word no!  Some of the children went on an environmental word hunt around the school. They were amazed at how many words they could read! For numeracy, we have been adding 1 more to a number. The children all enjoyed outdoor learning this week. We went for a walk and explored the woods; we had to look up, down, over, under and through to see what we could see. We saw the river, brambles, broom, trees, leaves, sticks, branches, slugs, beetles, pinecones, feathers, moss and the light shimmering through the trees onto the ground!

P2/1 Weekly Learning Reflection W/E 9th October 2020

Good Afternoon. I can’t believe its Friday already and the end of our first term. What a quick term it has been.  This week in Literacy, P1 have learned the sounds ‘u’ and ‘b’ and the tricky word you. We have made a unicorn, a butterfly, taught ted how to write u and b, coloured pictures that begin with b and made words on our magnetic boards. P2 have been revising the aw, au, ir, er and ur sounds. We played snakes and ladders, played roll and read, looked for words in a word search and wrote the words three ways. We also read our reading books.

In Numeracy P1 have continued to explore pattern. We have copied and completed patterns on peg boards, made our own coloured patterns, made patterns with the counting bears, been the actual pattern(boy, girl etc.) and played patterns games. P2 have been learning to add more, find a part and have looked at finding how many left. We have completed part part whole models, worksheets and played Sumdog.

In Health and Wellbeing we explored the story of My Fantastic Elastic Brain. It taught us that we can grow our brains. We can grow our brain by doing things that we have never done before and that we find hard at first. We discussed saying I can’t do it …yet! For IDL, we worked with a partner to create a fact file about an animal. We drew a picture of the animal and found out where it lived, what it ate and about its young.

In Drama, we explored using mime to show our emotions. We worked in a pair and the rest of the class had to guess how we were feeling. In Science with Miss Whigham we were learning about habitats. We looked at how animals adapt depending on where they live.

Here are a few of the children’s reflections:

“I enjoyed completing the word search of ir, er and ur words. I enjoyed finding Miss Maclachlan’s mistake. She had put the word burn in twice. ”

“I found it tricky this week when making the butterfly. I enjoyed finding out the facts about the animals”

“I found creating a pattern with the counting bears easy. I think completing the butterfly was hard.”

“I found creating a beautiful butterfly a bit tricky.”

“I enjoyed doing my sounds word search.”

“I liked playing roll and read with aw or au words.”

“I enjoyed completing the word search.”

Have a lovely holiday.

P5 9th October 2020

What a great week we have had in Primary 5. Our first Outdoor Learning was a great success and amazingly it stayed dry for us. We had our second French lesson with Madame Moore who taught us how to say how many brothers and sisters we have. We are all very sad to say goodbye to Mrs Mill, but we have made her two lovely  books to help her remember us. One is full of memories and messages, the other is the P5 Guide to Peace and Positivity which is full of great ideas to cheer Mrs Mill up on a gloomy day.

Anna – I liked Outdoor Learning. I liked trying to balance the leaf on the water and seeing if the needle would turn the right way.

Jarrad – I am sad about Mrs Mill leaving. I liked learning the hockey skills in PE.

Harris – I liked the Teams assembly today when I found out I won the decorate a mug competition.

Lakshya – I liked the Outdoor Learning when we were working out which way was North. We tried to make our own compass but it was hard to get the needle to balance on the water.

Labib – I like the French class because we were learning about how to say How are you? and What is your age? I also liked trying to make a compass in Outdoor Learning and learning hockey in PE. The RME was good too it was interesting. It was good when we played the How to Train Your Dragon game too.

Teme – I liked the How to Train Your Dragon board games when we got to play them. I am very sad that Mrs Mill is leaving.

Luke N – I feel really sad that Mrs Mill is leaving today because she was really nice to us and always had a smile.

Leo – I liked it when we were outside for an assembly to say goodbye to Mrs Mill. The Outdoor Learning was good because we did proper nature things and we made a compass. I also liked learning about RME with Mr Keast because it was interesting to find out about buildings that different religions have and are special to them. In PE I liked how we were doing hockey and learning hockey skills.

Rohan – I liked the nice and fresh air when we went for our walk in Outdoor Learning. I liked the big stairs that were muddy.

Kaitlyn – I am really sad that Mrs Mill has to leave. She was always so nice to us.

P5 reflection

Before we reflect on this busy week, just a reminder that P5 will be starting their Outdoor Learning lessons on Wednesday afternoon 7th October. Please ensure your child is dressed so that they can stay warm and dry.

There was a lot of new learning and activities in Primary 5 this week. Madame Moore from Inveralmond CHS came to visit this morning to teach us French. She was impressed by how much we have remembered from previous lessons. Madame Moore will be coming back every Thursday afternoon starting next week.

Emma M finally received her prize for the poetry competition she won during lockdown. Congratulations Emma!

We have watched a video from Mr Gourdie the school instrumental teacher about learning to play a brass instrument. A few of us were very interested in taking up this opportunity.

As part of Maths week Scotland we have been watching some videos of STEM Ambassadors talking about their jobs and how they use STEM subjects even in jobs where you wouldn’t think about it. We also heard some of them say how important it is to check and double check our work in case we make a mistake.

Freya – I liked when Madame Moore came this morning. It was fun to learn and I enjoyed it.

Finn – I liked the maths when it was learning about taking away with more than one exchange. I didn’t whizz through it because it was more challenging but it was good.

Jarrad – I liked the French with Madame Moore and I liked the PE. We learned some skills for hockey and I enjoyed it. On Tuesday it was fun when we were looking at the different leaf shapes in the garden. It started to rain and it was fun.

William – I like PE because I enjoy the laps around the field and I like the duck walks.

Olly – I enjoyed doing the card for Mrs Robertson because it was really quiet and I liked doing something nice for Mrs Robertson.

Labib – I liked PE when we did hockey and I also liked it when we did PE Bingo. I liked the Smart Start when we have to find as many words as we can. I liked doing French with Madame Moore.

Angus – I liked it when Mrs Sansom included Super Mario as one of the Odd One Out things during Smart Start. It was Mario’s 35th birthday.

Darcy – I liked doing the subtracting with more than one exchange because it was a challenge.

Luke – It is quite fun to be creating a cover for our book for French lessons.
