This week P2 have been revising the spelling patterns for words with sounds beginning with fr-, ending with –ag and i-e. For writing this week the children designed hand wash posters. They had to list all of the steps clearly and draw pictures to go with each step. In numeracy the class have been making equal groups and adding them together. They have also been skip counting in 5’s. P2 also finished off capacity and volume, investigating which vessel holds the most water.

Then you wash the soap off your hands with the water. Then you get a paper towel and dry your hands. You turn off the tap with the paper towel. Then you put it in the bin.

Coben – I enjoyed making pizza. We made the dough then we put it in the oven. When it crusted up we put on the ketchup. Then we put on some cheese. You were allowed to put peppers on your pizza if you wanted to. I put peppers on my pizza.

P2 Learning Reflection for W/E 6.3.20

In literacy this week our spelling focus has been: a-e magic e, words beginning with dr- and words ending with –ad. In numeracy we have been counting in 2’s and 5’s. Our numbertalks focus is subtracting by adding on the difference from the smaller number to the larger number. We have also investigated weight and mass using the balance scales. Everyone enjoyed the World Book Day activities yesterday, especially drop everything and read! Today our assembly was led by Maleficent and lots of children dressed up as a character from a book. After assembly we were all invited to the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party!

Austin – The words have to be about the topic you are writing about.

James – It does not have to rhyme at the end. It needs to start with the same sound.

P2 Learning Reflection for W/E 24.1.20

In numeracy this week P2 have been making links between number bonds for 10 and 20. In number talks we have continued to add multiples of 10 to any number. In writing the children enjoyed creating their own stories about a wee lassie who swallowed a midgie. In PE the class are continuing to  learn gymnastic balances and rolls. They are working in pairs to make up their own floor routine. We finished the week with a great Scottish focus assembly, with bagpipes, drums, poems and songs. Everyone in P2 thought it was braw!

James – I liked doing art because we were drawing a dragon for Chinese New Year. We had to remember to keep our pencils nice and light.

Rory – I enjoyed PE. This week we learned the dish roll and the rocket roll.

Austin – I liked doing the chunking 10 in number talks.

Sevinc – I enjoyed art. We were drawing a vase for Chinese New Year. We had to keep our pencil marks light.

Lewis  – I liked numeracy. We were making friends of 20. 6 +4=10 so 16 + 4=20!

Leighton – I liked numeracy. We were making friends of 20. If you know your friends of 10 then just add on 10 to make a friend of 20.

Lois- I liked art this week. We were drawing a dragon. I liked how you needed to keep your pencil light. We were making it more detailed.

Leo – I liked the assembly today. I liked our song Three Craws.

Poppy – I liked when we were doing art yesterday. It was a little hard cause you had to use your pencil lightly and do different curves.

Charley – I liked art this week. We were trying the keep the pencil nice and light. We are going to rub it out and add more detail to it.

Euan – I liked PE. We did the dish roll and the rocket. My favourite balance was the stork balance.

Nicholas – I love the Chinese New Year vase. We are drawing a dragon on it.

Emma – I enjoyed everyone singing because they had such wonderful sing in assembly. It was really nice!

Kaelan – I liked creating the dragon on the pot. You actually get to create your own dragon. We will go over it in pen and rub out the pencil marks.

Subhan – I liked writing about the Wee Lassie who swallowed a midgie. I wrote about a highland cow, eagle and a midgie.

Isaac – I enjoyed doing the Chinese vase. We were trying to draw a dragon first really lightly. Then you have to press down harder for the eye and eyebrows.

Sushanth – I liked to do the dragon drawing. We need to make the pencil nice and light.

Coben – I liked number talks. There was 3 and 3 that makes 6.

Ziva – I liked the Scottish assembly. People got to say their poem. My favourite poem was our class winner!

P2 Learning Reflection W/E 17.01.20

In literacy this week the children did a tricky word spelling test. I will use the results of this to plan our tricky word focus for this term. For writing the children all had a go at writing an exposition piece about having a friend in class. For PE we have started gymnastics and are currently focusing on balancing skills. In numeracy the class have enjoyed the daily flash back 4 revision quiz. Our number talks focus was compensation and our learning focus was counting on using a number line. The children have enjoyed playing Strike it out. You can play at home using this link: https://nrich.maths.org/6589

Leighton – In number talks we were doing some compensation. It’s when you switch the number and they still add up to the same.

Lewis – I liked number talks, we were using compensation. For 6+4 you can take 1 away from the 6 and add it to the 4 to make 5. Then double 5=10.

Coben – I was breaking numbers into place value.

Nicholas – I loved writing today.

Rory – I enjoyed number talks I know that 10 and 10 is 20 because it’s a double. For 9+11 if you take 1 from the 11 and add it to the 9 it makes 10 and double 10 is 20.

Sushanth – We did flashback 4.  I liked to do 9+4 on the number line.  You can use compensation too. You need to take 1 from the 4 to turn the 9 into 10 then add on 3 to make 13.

James – I liked numeracy because we were doing number talks and we were doing compensation. With 9+11 you can move 1 from 11 to make 10 and then double ten =20.

Lois – I enjoyed PE. I like playing the colour game. We are going to move onto gymnastics now.

Nicholas – I loved to put the work in order.

Charley – We are going to have a reading competition. It’s called the First Minister reading challenge. So we have got to read books and try to keep our library tidy.

Subhan – We get to read books.

Poppy – in PE we were balancing, we did zootz stork balance. You have to put your head straight and your arms out the same height as your shoulders and your knee up with toes pointing down.

Leo – I was reading Tabs kitten. Tabs kitten was sleeping somewhere else.

Austin – We were reading there a Wee Lassie who swallowed a midgie. The story rhymes and we were guessing what she would swallow next. I got a Scottish animal right it was Nessie.

Isaac – In numeracy we were playing Strike out. There was a number line all the way to 20. You have to get a partner.  You need to choose a number on the number line and cross it out and you choose another number to add on and you cross that out. Then you circle the answer. The next person has to start with that number. They cannot choose any numbers that are crossed out.

Euan – I enjoyed PE today. We were doing balances. I liked doing the stork balance.

Ziva – My favourite was gymnastics. We were doing balances.

Sevinc – I liked doing the flashback 4.

Emma – I enjoyed doing the countdowns this week. Today I managed to get ready in 5!

Kaelan – In assembly it was about Jesus. He was giving the man his sight back. Everyone else just ignored the man.

P2 Learning Reflection for W/E 7.1.20

It has been lovely to have the children back and ready to learn after the holiday. I hope you all had a great Christmas and I wish you all the very best for 2020. In primary 2 this week we have been learning about exposition texts and will have a go at writing our own next week. In numeracy we have been adding two groups together by counting on using ten frames and number lines. In number talks we finished off addition by breaking each number into tens and ones. We are now focusing on the strategy of compensation; by removing one addend and adding it to another addend e.g. 5+9 can be changed to 4+10 by removing 1 from the 5 and adding it to the 9. In PE we have been playing some team building and cooperation games with the parachute. The children all have their Scots poems home. Please help your child select one to learn for the Scottish poetry recital completion. I look forward to hearing the children recite their poems from the week beginning the 20th Jan.

Lewis – I liked the numeracy flash back, I got them all correct.

Nicholas – We wrote about the holidays. I went to five sisters zoo to meet my friends, Lewis, Austin, Kaelan and James.

Kaelan – I liked writing about the Christmas holidays. I got a machine for my Christmas, it’s like a train and when you switch it on it turns into a train.

Emma – In PE we were learning French words for colours.

Subhan – I liked writing about my holidays. I wrote about going to Mill Farm. I saw a lot of animals and I went to fun play.

Leighton – I liked number talks. We were adding by breaking the numbers onto their place value. For 32 + 13,  32 has 3 tens and 13 has 1 ten so 30 +10=40,  32 has 2,  1’s and 13 has 3, 1’s add the 2+3=5 then add 40+5=45.

Isaac – we are learning about exposition.  It has a title, a statement of position, a series of arguments and last a concluding statement. It tells us what the writer thinks.

Leo – In PE we were playing team games.

Rory – In PE we were playing with the parachute. I liked it when it went up and we went under it. It feels all silky.

Poppy – I liked PE today I liked playing the French coloured spots game. You have to shout out the colour in French and then run on the right coloured spot.

James – I liked learning about nouns, they name things people and places. The word ‘friend’ is a people noun.

Ziva – I have enjoyed doing number jumping on a number line.

Sevinc – I enjoyed PE this week. We were playing with the parachute and we played the French colour game.

Austin – I liked doing my learning profile. We were drawing a picture for the wellbeing wheel. I picked nurtured and I drew my house and my mum and dad looking after me.

Lois – I liked using number lines. You had to remember to make a jump when counting on.

Charley – I enjoyed PE this week. I liked the parachute popcorn game. We had to work together to keep the popcorn on or off.

Coben – I enjoyed the assembly this week. It was about when you are worried. When you are worried you can write them down or chat to your friends or my mum and dad.

Euan – In PE we played the parachute game.

P2 Learning Reflection for W/E 13.12.19

Isaac – I enjoyed doing numbertalks we are breaking each number into its place value. So for 21+32 the 21 has two tens and the 32 has three tens and so add two tens and three tens that makes five tens that’s 50. 21 has 1 one and 32 has 2 ones that makes 3 ones. So 50+3= 53.

Subhan – I liked the Nativity show. I was a narrator I had to speak to the audience, I felt good.

Poppy – I liked doing the Nativity I was the enormous star in it. I liked walking around the room, everyone had to follow me. I was a little bit nervous but I was happy to perform.

Leighton – I liked the nativity. It was really good. I liked the bit when I was following Poppy and trying to catch the stars.

Nicholas – I enjoyed the nativity. I was a sheep!

Emma – I enjoyed sewing my stocking for the Christmas fair, when it was done I liked the look of it. I had to do little stitches; it wasn’t hard it was easy.

Kaelan – I liked the Christmas fair. I bought my sewing. I made a robin it looked so cute.

James – I liked the nativity because I was playing an instrument and I was playing it in the first song. I was playing a triangle.

Rory – I enjoyed the Christmas fair because it looked quite Christmassy! I enjoyed the nativity because I liked my tambourine playing in it.

Lewis – I enjoyed the nativity. I was a Wise King. I had to plod on the camels and bring frankincense for baby Jesus.

Lois – I enjoyed the dress rehearsal because it was fun to wear our outfits. I was a narrator I liked the part when I had to speak. I needed to say another part too!

Sushanth – I enjoyed eating the Christmas lunch. I enjoyed my turkey it tastes like chicken or something.

Austin – I liked doing my class talk. I was talking about the changes of the moon, my numeracy and the sounds spelling. I like talking to the class about my learning.

Leo – I liked the nativity. I got to play the triangle. I was happy.

Ziva – I liked the nativity. I liked when the enormous star shouted out. I was on percussion for High on a Hill, I played maracas it was easy to keep the beat.

Eaun –  We did the nativity this week. I was in percussion. I played the tambourine. It was good.

Charley – I liked doing the nativity we got to do it in front of the mums and dads and we were wearing our costumes.  I was an instrument player, I played the chimes it sounded like stars!

Emma – I like ‘Steve, Terror of the Seas.’ It’s funny it says he is scary but the truth is it’s a shark everyone is scared of.

Coben –’Steve, Terror of the Seas’ is good.  It’s because there are scary parts and there is also a scary fish!

Isaac – ‘Steve, Terror of the Seas’ is funny. Steve is a funny fish because he thinks he is the scariest fish but it’s really George the shark that everyone is scared of. They go everywhere with each other!
