P2-1 Weekly Reflection 25.03.22

Today we were very excited to lead our first ever class assembly. We chose the theme of Mother’s Day because this Sunday is when we celebrate Mother’s Day in the UK and we can say thanks to our mums for everything they do for us. We drew some lovely pictures of our mums and told our audience why our mums are special to us. These are just some of the reasons we gave.

“My mum is special because we do lots of fun things together.” Cara

“My mum is special because she is kind to me.” Mohnish

“My mum is special because she cuts my hair and she is the best cook ever. She gives me brand new toys.” Dexter

“My mum is really funny. She plays pranks on me and tells me jokes and it makes me laugh.” Ethan

“My mum is special because she takes care of me and my family.” Dylan

“My mum is special because she makes yummy breakfast for me.” Jack

These are some of the beautiful pictures we drew of our mums.

As part of our assembly we learned some new songs but our favourite one was The Mother’s Day Song, have a listen and you’ll see all the great ways (or not!) we can help our mums. We have also been busy creating a special surprise for our mums which we are sure they are going to love!

In Numeracy this week we have practised odd and even numbers, revisited number bonds to 20 and begun to explore measurement by considering length and height. We had great fun trying to find items which were shorter and longer than a spoon and then we practised measuring different items in the classroom using non-standard units from around the class.

In literacy we have been revising our Set 2 and Set 3 sounds with a particular focus on consonant blends ng and nk for P2 and the split digraph i-e for P1. We have also been practising our red words to build up our fluency in reading. If you have time please practise these at home by clicking on this link, red-words.

This week we have been enjoying the lovely weather and we hope the sunshine continues over the weekend for our Mums’ special day! Have a great weekend.

P1 Weekly Learning Reflection W/E 25th March 2022

Good afternoon.

In Literacy we have learned the sounds ‘aw’ and ‘are’. We played ‘aw’ snakes and ladders, ‘are’ roll and read, taught ted how to write ‘aw’, looked for ‘are’ words in a story and word search. In writing we wrote an acrostic poem about our mums.

In Maths we explored subtraction. First of all, we looked at subtraction within 10 then we started to look at subtraction within 20. We used Numicon, number lines, counters and playdough to help us. We found the missing number in subtraction sentences using playdough, got our bus to school by answering subtracting within 10 questions, practised our counting backwards and played Robot Less than on the computers.

We explored the story of the Hungry Caterpillar on Monday. We looked at the different stages in a butterfly’s life cycle, sequenced the story using pictures and learned how to draw a butterfly. This week we have explored Spring. We brainstormed what we knew about spring, played spring bingo, I Spy and created blossom tree paintings. On Friday we had assembly. It was Primary 2/1’s assembly and it was all about Mother’s day. Here are a few of the children’s reflections:

Jessica- “I liked playing the washing machine game in gym.”

Finlay – “I liked playing at superheroes with the boys in the bricks.”

David – “I liked doing the parachute in the gym hall.”

Matthew- “I liked playing the cat and mouse game.”

Mia – “I was drawing a picture of Miss Maclachlan, me and my brother.”

Leo – “I was building a superhero den in the bricks.”

Have a lovely weekend.
