End of Term 1!

Good afternoon families of Primary 3.

What a wonderful Term 1!

Thank you all for such a kind welcoming into the School, parents, families and Staff at Livingston Village Primary School.

Here are some snippets from this weeks learning…

In PE this week, we continued to focus on ball skills. This time we used different sized balls and how you would throw them. We practised our overarm and underarm throws in teams. Then used targets to throw them into. We then dribbled with a basketball around a obstacle and back in our teams.

We had our first library time this term this week. This is something we are hoping to keep up in the next term.

I was super impressed with Primary 3’s homework that instead of choosing one pupil to get the pupil of the week award, I gave it to the whole class! What superb model making of the faraway tree and home learning. Well done class, keep up the hard work for the next term!

As an added bonus, we managed to fill up Mrs Loves clouds of joy for the end of term! We went out for an extra 15 minutes playtime where we played ‘Whats the time Mr Wolf?’. Lets see if we can fill it up faster next term!

With the new term starts a new Topic of ‘Farm to Fork’. We have a trip organised to Almond Valley (Mill Farm). If any parent volunteers could help out, please contact the office.

I hope everyone enjoys their October break. I look forward to seeing you all in the new term. Happy holidays!

P2/1 Learning Reflection week ending 11th October 2019

Another busy week for P2/1. In Literacy P2 have been revising the ‘air’ or ‘are’ sounds. We made and read words such as care, fair etc., played roll and read and looked for words in a word search. P1 have learned the ‘b’,’f’ and ‘e’ sounds and the tricky word he. We played roll and read, practised our letter formation, made a butterfly and rainbow fish and found words that began with the letter f. In numeracy and maths this week P1 have been exploring friends of 10. We used gems to put spots on the ladybird showing friends of 10, we used ten frames to make the dot patterns for 10 and we sorted 10 cars into friends of 10. P2 have been continuing to learn about subtraction. We spent more time looking at fact families and writing the 8 facts. We also explored subtraction using a number line. In Wee Story Big Sound this week we went to space. We listened and responded appropriately to music and a few of us got to play the symbols or a drum and make as much noise as we could for the engines of the rocket.  With Miss Whigham we were focusing on our sense of touch. We sorted items as to how they felt using words such as smooth, soft etc. On Thursday we went to church for our harvest festival. We hope you have a lovely holiday. Here are a few of the children’s reflections:

P6 Reflection of the Week

This week Primary 6 have been learning about World War 2. We have been writing a piece of work about the Impact World War 2 had on Scotland. We used a website called Sath.org.uk for our research. We wrote our research on a plan sheet before we wrote it in our jotters. Some people have started to type their piece of work on a laptop. In Maths we have been learning about perimeter. Most of us have been doing common shapes like squares and rectangles but for a challenge some people have been doing irregular shapes like shapes that look like stairs. For science we have been learning about Micro-organisms. For some fun, we made bread with Mr Keast and got to eat it later. Most people liked it but others didn’t. At assembly we celebrated because Miss Marnie is getting married during the October holidays. When she comes back she’ll be known as Mrs Brodie. We have also been learning about the new school rules. They are Ready, Respectful and Safe. In PE we have been playing handball. We did a few drills before moving into matches. We played 2 minute games. We continued our blitz art and most of us are finished now. Mrs Fraser has been reading a book called Welcome to Nowhere. It is set in Syria. it is about  boy called Omar who is trying to save his cousin’s postcard business.
