P2 This Week 3.5.19

In Literacy we learned how to spell words with consonant blends. In writing we wrote descriptions of Mr. Grinling, the lighthouse keeper from the story ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’. We also completed a sequencing activity re-telling the story. The children enjoyed writing comic strips about ‘Oor Wullie’ and these will now be stuck on our life size ‘Oor Wullie’, which will be part of the bucket trail this summer! The children also enjoyed having ERIC time outside in the school garden.

In Maths we have been learning to round numbers to the nearest ten and developing our knowledge of multiplication. The children have also been learning about symmetry and had fun creating colourful symmetrical butterflies.

In Science we began learning about mini beasts. As part of our outdoor learning this term, the children will be venturing outside to take part in a special mini beast hunt!

In PE we played a fun team game and also practised our tennis skills.

Have a lovely holiday weekend!

Hello again!

It’s been a few weeks since P7 have posted on the blog. We have been so busy – before Easter it was doing the show Rock Bottom. What a triumph the performances were. I’m still singing the songs. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. I’m very proud of the whole class.

This week we have been so busy preparing and presenting our assembly on ‘What’s the point of sport?’ This was a great success and it was completely designed by the pupils. My only job was to merge all their powerpoint slides into one. Not only was the content inspiring, but the confidence in the children as they were speaking was impressive, and all of them said a lot more than they would have done at the start of the year. Well done!

We have been looking at photos from Belmont camp and we are really excited to be going there in a few weeks time. We made a lot of friends from the cluster at the rugby festival last week, and we can’t wait to meet them again at Belmont.

P1a Learning Reflection W/E 3rd May 2019

What a busy week P1 have had. In Literacy this week we have learned two split diagraphs. They are i-e and o-e. We used these sounds to make and write words, looked for words in a word search and played roll and read. In numeracy, we were solving problems using the look for a pattern strategy. Also we practised adding and subtracting within 20. We learned more about Oor Wullie this week and created our own comic strip adventures to be considered for decorating the school’s Oor Wullie statue. We enjoyed listening to some of Oor Wullie’s adventures. In art we got the opportunity to draw daffodils. Our first project of the term is going to be about nature. This was our choice. We brainstormed what we knew about nature and what we would like to learn. We have a new star of the week. It is Leighton. On Friday we enjoyed Primary 7’s assembly on sport and why it is important. Hope you have a lovely long weekend. Here are a few of the children’s reflections on their learning:

Lois: “I enjoyed learning the i-e and o-e sounds.”

Ch: “I enjoyed P7’s assembly on sport.”

Murdo: “I enjoyed the assembly and singing the Eye of the Tiger.”

Ayden: “I enjoyed the assembly.”

Rory: “I enjoyed paying Leighton a compliment and drawing his star.”
