P1 & Ms King

Learning reflection for W/E 15.02.19

This week P1 have been busy learning the digraph ‘ow’ as in ‘blow the snow’ and the trigraph  ‘igh’ along with tricky word be. In maths this week we have been exploring half of a shape and a number. The children have found out that some numbers can’t be shared to make two equal halves, sometimes there is one left over! They also made yummy play-dough pizza which they cut into two equal halves!

P3 Weekly Reflection 15.02.19

This week we were practising our spelling words using plasticine and art straws, it was not as easy as some of the children made it look!  We have been learning about Magic ‘e’ and how it changes the sound of a vowel from it’s sound to it’s name.  I wonder how many examples of magic ‘e’ words the children will be able to tell you?

In maths we have been learning about halves and quarters.  We know that a quarter is half of a half and we talked about the numerator and denominator, tricky words but we are becoming more confident about what these mean!

In our topic work we have begun to look at key dates in the life of Ancient Egyptians and we talked about why the River Nile was so important to the Egyptians.  We are looking forward to learning about hieroglyphics and the process of mummification in the next few weeks.

In P.E. we have begun to work on gymnastics and we have been practising our jumping and rolling this week.  The star shaped forward roll using the springboard was a definite hit!

Here’s some of the children’s highlights:-

Luke C “I enjoyed when we did Humpty Dympty in different voices in Drama.  I also like when the nursery sang Baby Shark.”

Joe “I liked doing rolls and especially the star jump forward roll in gymnastics.”

Rohan “I liked doing homophones with Mrs Stewart.”

William “I also liked the homophones.”

Kalista “I enjoyed learning about Egypt when we were learning about the timeline of important events.”

Have a lovely holiday weekend and I look forward to hearing all the children’s news on Wednesday.

Art in P2 – Ming Vases

For Chinese New Year we created our own Ming vases using blue pastels and looked at designs on photographs of Ming vases for inspiration. We then painted our backgrounds for the vases in ink and they have made a beautiful wall display for the classroom!

ERIC Time in P2

Look at how engaged we were at ERIC time (Everyone Reads In Class) today!

We also had a lovely assembly about Valentines Day by the nursery and then after Golden time talked about how impressed Mrs Cooper was with everyone including each other in their play and sharing their toys. The children reflected on a time they felt included and how it made them feel.

Have a lovely long weekend everyone!

In P7 this week…

P7 have been learning about electricity and circuits in Science with Mr Keast.

We have started our rehearsals for the show and it is definitely so far so good. We have yet to start learning the songs, but even with a script in hand, acting skills are super. We have learned that reading the stage directions is an important part of understanding what is happening.

Active Learning For Numeracy

In February P2 have been learning about tens.

We counted in 10’s and recognised the pattern is similar to counting in 1’s except the number has a zero on the end.

We used a wide variety of concrete materials ( lollipop sticks, counters, Diennes materials, cubes and multilink) to make bundles ( groups) of ten to help us count in tens.

We have been practicing adding on 1 more and 10 more or finding 1 less and 10 less from a number.

On the computer we used the Topmarks website to play place value basketball – you can play it at home too. Here is the link.

P1a Learning Reflection W/E 15th February

This week in Literacy we have been learning the sounds igh and ow. We used these sounds to word build, complete a worksheet or word search and play a roll and read game. We learned a new tricky word it is are. In writing, we wrote about who is in our back up team. In numeracy we have been learning about sharing. We were sharing the treasure equally and fairly. We were learning about what it means to make a fair share.  We spoke about our window into learning for this term and we looked at our new learning profiles. We completed a wellbeing web where we thought about each of the 8 indicators – Safe, healthy, achieving, respected, responsible, nurtured, active and included.  In art we have been colouring in with crayons our roses and we added in paint to complete them. We also created a heart by finger painting and we cut out a heart shaped poem for Valentine’s Day. These will be displayed in the corridor and photo will be put on the blog and twitter when they are dry. In RME we listened to and discussed the story of Noah’s Ark. During circle time this week we had our reflection time about Keep Connected. We drew our back up team on a T Shirt. In P.E this week we continued to play team games and dodgeball. Here are a few of the children’s reflections:

Leo: “I found number talks hard this week. We were having to solve number sentences.”

Murdo: “I found it tricky cutting out the heart shaped poem.”

Emma: “I learned about the story of Noah’s Ark. There was a flood and the boat floated on the water.”

Sam: “I enjoyed learning about and looking at our Window into Learning.”

Ziva: “I liked using the crayons to colour my rose in.”
