This Week in P3/2

Literacy

We got our new reading books and we were using your clarifying skills to understand the meaning of unfamiliar words. We also introduced echo reading this week. Echo reading is used to help us read with fluency and expression.

“We have been using echo reading this week. My teacher reads a page first and then I would read it back”.

“This made reading easier as it broke up the tricky words”.

We have been practicing our tricky words this week. We love to play games with our spelling words like quiz a friend.

“I have to look, say, cover, write, and check each word.”

In writing, we finished our information report genre. We researched and discussed Spring and then used this information to support us when writing our report.

Maths

In maths, we were continuing to solve times tables equations. We had to identify an effective strategy to help us calculate the answer. We all enjoyed using our skills to play times table snakes and ladders and times table bingo.

“Using pop its help me calculate the answer.”

“I used my fingers and counted in twos.”

Health and Wellbeing

This week, we started football for P.E. We were working on our dribbling skills, passing skills and keeping control of the ball.

“We were dribbling in and out of the cones.”

“We can to pass the ball to out team members.”

We were looking at a picture while we wrote about what we seen in the picture for writing.  KS

We revisited how to use adverbs and adjectives.  For reading, we summarised a fiction text and we used a variety of comprehension strategies to show our understanding of a non fiction text.

Outdoor Learning

All my classes (Mrs Dobbie) have been outside this week in the lovely sunshine. Primary 1’s have been measuring in the playground using non-standard units – hands and feet. Primary 2 looking at the signs of spring. Primaries 5, 6/5 and 7/6 were outside finding the volume of 3D shapes. Primary 7 were learning to recognise and understand the importance of biodiversity.

Today we have received 210 trees from the Woodland Trust. All classes will be out next week planting them on the field and around the school. Can all children please come dressed appropriately for all weathers.

P.4 Friday

We were inspired by watching Jacqueline Wilson on Author’s Live to write our own stories and share them with the class. Actually it was a class from Deans Primary with Mrs Hillan who were in the audience for the Author’s Live show!

P5’s Weekly Update

P5 spent a lot of time outside this week!

We have been out for PE this week and have also had outdoor learning.

Lily-Ellen – We looked at the fruit trees we had planted to see how they were getting on.

Sofia – I enjoyed measuring outside in order to work out the volume of different objects.

Topic

We went outside to use chalk and drew different dinosaurs.

Alexis – I was proud of how my dinosaur turned out.

Numeracy

We have been learning how to use the short division method to divide larger numbers – we also call it the bus stop method!

Sara – We use this method for larger numbers.

Today we used the laptops and practised our division facts.

Literacy

We have learnt how to summarise a text and although it was difficult at first we have improved our ability to do this.

We learnt how to write an explanation text this week. This genre is going to be our new focus over the next few weeks.

Science – Floating and Sinking

Bella – It was fun and interesting to see if things float or sink. We learnt that upthrust was the force pushing thing up in water.

Enjoy your week-end everybody!

First week back for P2

Welcome Back – Jack in the Box Nursery

Welcome back to our blog! Have a read to see what we have been up to!

Numeracy

We have started our new topic of time. This week, we have been focusing on the months of the year – how to read and spell them, and also the order in which they come.

Jayden – “There are 12 months in a year”

Euan – “2 months after January is March, and April is the fourth month”

Vrishti – “Halloween is in October”

Archie M – “There are different months in different seasons”

IDL

Our new topic for this term is World of Work.

Maddison – “We spoke about different kinds of jobs”

Ethan – “We looked at different job sectors and wrote the jobs that are in that sector”

Writing

We began learning a new writing genre this week – explanation.

Max – “An explanation is when you explain something”

Mark – “First comes the title, then the identifying statement, then the explanation sequence, then the summary statement”

Andrew – “A summary is when you say what has happened”

Fun in the sun

We have been out enjoying the sun this week. We were learning how to make daisy chains and found it quite tricky and fiddly! Some of us got the hang of it after a while!

Some of us were learning to assess risks by climbing a tree.

Jordon – “There were stable branches and unstable branches”

Louie – “We had to make sure we were testing the branches and only standing on the stable branches”

Charli Mae – “We couldn’t go too high up to the top because the branches were unstable”

Sophie – “I was happy but also scared because I had to make sure I didn’t fall off”

Have a lovely weekend in the sun!

A Busy Week in P4/3!

It has been lovely for us all to be back together after the Easter holidays. Everyone (including Mrs Morrison) is feeling refreshed after the break and looking forward to the term ahead.

This week we have been revising spelling sounds from last term and practising the more tricky words. Next week, we will introduce new sounds for the children to work on.

In numeracy, we have been assessing our learning as a way of demonstrating our knowledge, but also as a way of identifying areas we still need to improve. Next week we will explore multiplication and I know some of the children are excited about this!

During home learning our Egyptian topic was put on hold and we focused on exploring our country, Scotland. Mrs Morrison was delighted the efforts the children put into researching facts about Scotland. Now we must use these research skills to find out more about Ancient Egypt. Look out for some facts on the blog in the coming weeks!

Finally, we made the most of the sunshine and took our learning outdoors. It was so nice to be together, have fun and learn as well! Let’s hope the sunshine is here to stay!!

Have a lovely weekend and I will check in next Friday.

Mrs Morrison
