P5/6 Wednesday 29th April

Hello all.

I am going to copy each day’s “Read Me First” document from Team’s “Files” into this blog as some of you have been having difficulties accessing it. I hope this helps.

I am still trying to get to grips with this so please bear with me. I also want to develop some of the outcomes from Monday’s planning meeting and adjust how we are using teams.

From that meeting those of you that have had their personal projects agreed please make a plan for what you want to include and what your learning intention will be – Ethan, Gemma and Thomas I know you have already made a start on this.

Topic – great idea to do some stuff that is positive about the present situation. Someone suggested doing “Oor Wullie” in lockdown, and someone else up-levelled that by making it about a family – “The Broons”. What do you know about them? I have never read any of their stories. Yesterday Thomas did some excellent research and has posted his results in “Personal Projects”: please check it out. Today continue to research “The Broons”, and start to think about the characters and how they might interact under lockdown.

I will try to spend some time today on Education City creating more content on it for you all. I thought more language work might be appropriate – maybe dictionary work. I have not forgotten about the other spelling activity, but it proved to be more difficult to put together than I had thought.

In the meeting on Monday it was agreed to focus on money in maths first and then move onto measure. This will help progress your work on decimals to 3 places.

Money Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 7
Measure Chapter 15 Chapter 13a Chapter 13

Use the book that is most relevant to you – like “chili questions”. Do it like we do in class – don’t feel the need to do every question, just do enough to show yourself that you have understood. Check your answers in the back as you need. And Please contact me for support when you need to.

Ethan, thank you for up-loading you work, it looks really good.

I was lucky enough to speak to some of your parents, and even some of you, over the last few days. It was lovely!

Logan S suggested growing your own vegetables as a health project. What do you think?

Keep your daily diary going, recording what you are doing, what exercise you do, what you eat and how you feel.

Continue to practise your French using the resources from the link below: https://powerlanguage.courses/forfamilies/french/

Don’t forget to do the day’s activities on BBC “Bitesize”.

And exercise with Joe https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/joinin/bp-joe-wicks-workout

Submitting homework – Thank you to those that have. I think the best way from now on might be that if you have produced a piece of work that you are especially proud of you should e-mail that to the school so we can share it via the blog. If there is a piece of work that you are not sure about, maybe you found a bit tricky, up-load that to “Teams” so that I can look over it and we can then discuss it together. All other work please keep at home for now.

Take care all of you.

Primary 3 – Wednesday 29th April

Welcome to Wednesday everybody!

Hope you are enjoying the activities in your new packs!

Here are some other tasks to keep you going and you will get some more for the end of the week from Mrs Morrison & Mrs Lockhart.

Literacy/Art/Drama – Create a mask of one of the characters in the book you are reading or a favourite story of yours. Using this try a ‘hot-seating’ activity where you pretend to be that character – ask someone to ask you some questions and you try answering them as if you were that character! You could make another character mask and ask someone else at home to be in the ‘hot-seat’ and you ask the questions this time!

Take a note of any good questions you think of!

Writing – Use the link to find this week’s writing task from Miss Taylor that is linked to the Rainbow family learning post that she put up on Monday:

Numeracy – Revisit Place Value and show your ability to recognise the place value for numbers up to 99 with this game : Place value basketball game . Use the link below:

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/place-value-basketball

French –We have practised the days of the week and the numbers to 20 in French, now let us have a look at the months of the year! Take a look at the video below:

Try this game afterwards:

french_months_dominoes

IDL/Art/Technology: Using materials you have at home create a model or picture of the Giant’s Causeway – google this to see lots of different images to help you out. Please take photos if you can and email them to me at the school email!

Giant’s Causeway

Hope you all enjoy the rest of your week! Remember that it is a holiday next Monday and Tuesday for you, and I will be back on to post activities on Wednesday! Miss you all lots!

Good Morning Primary 1/2 29.4.20

Good Morning Boys and Girls!

Happy Wednesday everyone, I hope you are ready for another day of home learning fun!

Let’s jump right in with some……

Reading/writing

Have another go at reading ‘Mix, Mix, Mix’ on the Oxford Owls ebooks page. I want you to have a think today about what you would put in your potion to mix, mix, mix! Share this with an adult and you could even make it! I have attached below a template for writing out your very own magic potion. Use page 1 if you have a printer or you can make up your own in your purple jotters.

Magic Potion template

If you are having a go at this activity remember to use those ordering words that we used for writing instructions previously.

Success criteria

I can first, next and last to order my ideas.

I can use a capital letter, full stop and finger spaces.

I can sound out words I am unsure of.

Phonics/handwriting

This week we have been working on learning all about the ‘w’ sound. (a big thanks to those who sent me some ‘w’ pictures yesterday – great work!)

Today I would like you to have a go at practising writing the letter. In your packs is a picture of 3 witches. The idea is to follow the pattern of the 3 witches hats to make the shape of the letter. There are a few worksheets within the pack to help you practise. In case you haven’t got your pack yet I have attached a practise sheet below.

w handwriting sheet

Don’t forget to tinkle pink and green for growth your work, use a sharp pencil and ensure your letters sit on the line.

This is a great website to explore if you are having some difficulty remember the correct formation of each letter.

Literacy

Numeracy and Maths

I thought we could have a go at subitising again today. Get your shouty voices (or pencils) ready to say how many dots are in the ten frame, remember you only have 3 seconds and the aim is to recognise how many without counting!

Daily 10.

Instead of me giving you your daily 10 today, visit this website…

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/daily10

Choose level one, addition, numbers up to 10.

Look at the example below. The starting number is 3, so how many more do you add on to make 5?

Using a number line is an easy way to find the solution, put your finger on 3 and count on until you reach 5, how many jumps did you make with your finger? Or you could use counters (or anything around your house) start with 3 then make 5, how many did you have to add? Have a go, there are 10 questions, I suggest putting the timer on manual until you have got the hang of it. Then you can challenge yourself.

Money

How did everyone get on with making their own shops yesterday. I’d love to see some pictures if you have them?

Today why not practise making totals in your shop? Invite someone to visit your shop and you can add up what they spend.

Below is a link to a great game to help you add up coins.

Start by choosing ‘one coin’  and begin to practise using 1p’s to add up totals.

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/money/toy-shop-money

Health and Wellbeing

Did you manage to figure out the 3 key messages from the road safety clip yesterday. STOP, LOOK and LISTEN. Well done if you got them right.

Why not design a poster displaying those key messages. Here are some pictures for inspiration.

Good luck with all of your learning tasks for today. I look forward to seeing all of your super work.  I will be back tomorrow with some more ideas for  home learning. Enjoy the rest of your day and if you are out for a walk don’t forget to stop, look and listen!

Before Break

Bonjour. Today we are going to be working out the average speed of a journey. If you look in the folder for today / blog, you will find your work.

Like the last two days, you have to carefully read and understand the instructions / examples to be able to use the formula accurately. For Q. 9 you can use a calculator but still show some kind or working. If you don’t have a calculator just leave it out. Take your time especially with Q.11 as it is a problem solving questions. Read it carefully.

L.I. – to calculate the average speed of a journey

S.C. – I can use the formula accurately

I can show my working out

  1. Read over my instructions
  2. Read over the instructions / example in the folder/blog.
  3. Start if you understand
  4. Read again if you don’t and I’ll be back in 10 minutes.

The Definition of Mindfulness

What is mindfulness, and why is it important?

Mindfulness is about focusing on the present, and being aware of what is going on both inside and outside, in a non-judgmental way. It’s about noticing physical sensations and emotional responses, as well as your connection to other people and to your surroundings. (first discovers)

Mindfulness is a tool we promote in school as it has many benefits described below.

It helps to increase attention span

It helps you understand and regulate your emotions

It helps with stress management and general wellbeing

It helps you become more aware of your body and your senses

It helps to develop empathy and compassion for others.

A few activities for you try at home.

Have a great day. I will post more activities tomorrow.

Primary 2 – Wednesday 29th April 2020

Good morning everyone! I hope you are all ready for another day of fun learning activities!

Writing

I began writing a story yesterday and got stuck with the ending – I am hoping you can all help me finish it off! The last part I wrote was:

“The spaceship crashed. When the doors opened…”

Can you help me finish the story? I am looking for 3 or more sentences with lots of adjectives to describe the setting and characters. I would also like capital letters, full stops, and finger spaces as all these things help to make a fantastic story. I can’t wait to see how you finish off my story!

If you would like some help with adjectives, follow this link which gives you some more information: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zd372sg

Numeracy

We are going to practise doubles and near doubles for the rest of this week. First, it would be great if you could watch the doubles song to refresh your memory.

Once you have watched the doubles song, answer these questions in your jotter:

  • 9 + 9
  • 6 + 6
  • 2 + 2
  • 8 + 8
  • 12 + 12

What strategies are you using to work out the answers to the questions? Can you find the most efficient strategy?

Yoga

As times are manic just now it can be good to stop and take part in some exercise and mindfulness. Below I have attached the link for a yoga session to help stretch out your body and give you a brain break. I’m sure Mrs Anderson would love to know that you have been doing some yoga! Try this out to see if it helps:
